Remember Me
If you like recorded twin arch-top guitars, sweet mandolin by Don, Stiernberg, and jazz violin by Randy Sabien, I think you'll like this. It's from the Jimmy and Swingers recorded by Steve Yates. Its not new, but timeless :-) I first heard a Ray Price version of this and fell in love with the tune.

I was working on part of a tune when I had a visitor one minute in. Meet Austin AKA "Banjo". He's ten months in the thumb nail and 11 here. Ironically, the music is a section of a traditional tune called "Old Blue".

This is there full version of "Salt River" re-harmonized with shaker bow, strummed fiddle, guitar and djembe. All percussion is recorded on a first take and fiddle played straight through, notwithstanding a few fades and cut on the reentry middle section. The guitar by Jim is an overdub after everything else was recorded. The drum at the end is an outtake.
Sam Robbins and Jim Kanas "trade 4's" on "This Land is Your Land"
มุมมอง 788 หลายเดือนก่อน
"Trading 4's" is what jazz and bluegrass musicians do when they take turns soloing. One player plays four (or 2 or 8) bars of improvisation then the next does. This was the 2nd of 2 collaborations at the end of a concert featuring Sam Robbins with special guest, Jim Kanas opening in DeKalb, IL at the DeKalb County History Museum on February 15, 2024. Sam Robbins, samrobbinsmusic.com, is often d...

Sam Robbins, samrobbinsmusic.com, is often described as an "old soul singer songwriter." A nationally touring musician whose music evokes classic singer songwriters like James Taylor and Jackson Browne, Sam adds a modern, upbeat edge to the storyteller troubadour persona. Jim Kanas, www.jimkanas.com/index.html, is an Americana stylist/multi-instrumentalist and guitarist cut from the cloth of ja...
The Greek Medley

As learned from Darol Anger, played by Jim Kanas on a 1920's Lyon and Healy tenor guitar. "The Greek Medley" is an American fiddle tune recorded by Marcus Martin. I learned it from Darol Anger but am playing less like a traditional fiddle tune (dance-like) and more lyrical, rubato or free from a strict tempo. This pear shaped guitar (sides and back made of pear wood) and is tuned in 5ths like a...

Here is some original flute music inspired by the landsI was raised in and the Native American Flute. I recorded performed this music on an instrument found in friend of a friends teepee on an island in Maine. It was lent to me for this recording. The flute is not shown in the thumbnail but I'll search for it. It has a figure of a horse for a block (the part that partially covers the sound window.

Gentlemen, this is a lovely fresh treatment on an old classic tune. If I might be so bold as to share something with you. In an interview with Quincy Jones from the TH-cam video “Quincy Jones on battling Michael Jackson, befriending Sinatra”, Quincy was asked whether he thought the the album Thriller, which he produced, would ever reach the popularity and sales that it did indeed obtain. Quincy’s answer was shear perfection. “I don’t think of it like that. I think about what touches me. You know, I’ve never in my life ever done music for money or fame. Never! And never will. Cause God walks out of the room then. And it’s not sacred anymore. And it is sacred you know. Cause to me melody is God’s voice. It’s clothed by lyrics, but melody is God’s voice. That’s the power.” Gentlemen, you have "The Power".
