    I'm curious, why didn't you size fit that plexiglass better? Seems like having it super-sized just makes it so a person could get jabbed by sharp corners for no reason. Also is your air cylinder too short? I was surprised it didn't crush the can very well. Other than that, I love your design.

    This video inspired me for my graduation exam. I had a lot of fun during the construction and assembly. Really nice

    would take an awful lot of cans to get your money back out of that. buy used parts.

      ***** The can crusher gets used quite often. I figured one can was enough to demonstrate it's use. As I mentioned, I will be making another video with more details and I will crush more than one can. I've been busy and had to push back the timeline for making another video. I never though I would get this much interest in the project and kept it very short.

    Hello sir, I know this is going to be a stupid question. Is this connected to an air compressor?? I am working on a project and I need something that works like this. I am not an expert on hydraulics systems.

    • @lucouimet423
      @lucouimet423 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is connected to an air compressor. I used a pneumatic cylinder. Hydraulic cylinders create much more force but use oil (hydraulic fluid) as oppose to air. Hydraulic systems are heavier and require a hydraulic pump to pressurize the fluid. Air is easier and all that is needed for a small project like this. Can still hurt or break your fingers if you get them caught in the "crushing" zone so be careful.

    The ram is simply 2 large fender washers welded to a nut. If you can find a round or even square piece of metal, thick enough that you can tap a thread into then you can screw that on the thread of the shaft. A piece of hardwood should work just as well. You can use double sided tape to hold a piece of sheet metal on the wood ram to help proctect it as well.

      Being a woodworker, I really appreciate the fact that you made this out of wood. I don't have a welder, plasma cutter, or other integral items to construct a can crusher out of steel. I am really curious about the one main piece that isn't metal, the pneumatic cylinder. Can you tell more about it like where you found it, how much it was, and any specs necessary to your design?

    Built the crusher based on your video... Thank you for sharing! I ended up using wood for the ram, but I would really like to know what you had used.

    Luc, can you tell me what you used for the ram? The part that you have at the end of the cylinder? Thank you for this video, I have all the parts, but not sure what to use for the ram.

    I bought my supplies at Princess Auto in Ottawa, Ontario. 5 way - 3 position pneumatic control valve 40mm bore x 150mm stroke, double acting pneumatic cylinder remaining are 1/4" npt accessories. Hope this helps!
