How Fungi Will Shape Our Future
Over 90% of fungi are undocumented, yet fungi make up a kingdom - a group as big as plants or animals. Although we know so little about them, we are beginning to discover how we can use them to help build a better future - through their abilities to solve our urban planning and problems, resist harsh conditions, break things down (mycoremediation), and create new resources (mycofabrication). Will fungi be the solution we need to the climate and ecological crises and bring us closer to a solarpunk future?

The WACKIEST Climate Conspiracies
มุมมอง 2.1K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
The web of climate and environmental/eco conspiracies goes really deep. From anti-vegan propaganda to climate lockdowns and 15 minute cities, to even the World Economic Forum and aliens conspiring to force us all into a solarpunk future - these conspiracies get really weird. But, surprisingly, a lot of these conspiracies do have some basis of truth - and guess what, there's a very simple why......
Why We’ll Still Have Celebrities After Capitalism

Whilst celebrities are constantly competing for our attention through the attention economy, we are slowly growing more aware of our unhealthy relationship with them. Why Rewilding Should Be More Anarchist

We're in an ecological crisis and sixth mass extinction event, yet conservation and rewilding efforts, especially in the UK, are very slow. Is the solution to take a more anarchist approach to rewilding and re...
What the Economy of the Future Looks Like

Why the ‘Nature VS Housing’ Debate Makes No Sense

The UK has a big housing crisis, with hundreds of thousands homeless and millions on waiting lists. Yet there's been a lot of pushback at Labour's new pledge to build 1.5 million new homes, with people angry that these housing developments will further encroach on and destroy our already limited nature. So, what's the solution? And how can we build housing in a solarpunk way, ensuring there is ...

How do you get from "they rediscover street networks" to "we should use them for planning"? Human planners and algorithms can incorporate all sorts of limitations and additional information and then plan faster than the mycelium.

Nuclear would’ve saved millions/possibly billions of people & millions/possibly billions of animals from immense pain & suffering. I’ve already seen historic droughts in Pakistan, Afganistan & Australia and forrest fires in Russia, Canada, Greece & Australia leading to animals starved to death or *burned alive by the millions.* This is already an unfathomable Hell that cannot ever be undone! Worse is yet to come. Even if we start building nuclear today we’ve lost decades, critical infrastructure, critical research & development, we’ve unnecessarily closed plants instead of retrofitting them. Every goddamn scientist & engineer says that nuclear is incredibly safe & nuclear waste is not an issue. We have billionaires like the Koch brother/s, despotic dictators like Putin & Arab princes like Mohamed bin Salman, all of them having their immense wealth & power *residing on oil & gas.* These are the most pragmatic, if not the most cynical & psychopathic people having unlimited money at their disposal & $Trillions more waiting for them in the ground. Their greatest enemy standing between them & $Trillions is nuclear power! Close to 99% of the NGOs, lobbying & articles that are anti-nuclear would absolutely evaporate without dirty oil money. Putin destroyed German minds, bullsh*ting them to close & abandon nuclear. This was devastating for German independence, which led to today’s German economic crisis, and not to mention the impact on millions & billions of beings! Highly emotional & easily triggered people are a disaster to Life, despite their good intentions they’re having a comparatively negative impact as soulless godless libertarians. Do you realize… countless animals burned alive?! You have no f*cking idea how many orders of magnitude is this above any impact nuclear might have.

I have one caveat about using edible mushrooms such as Pleurotus for clean-up. Fungi are generaly good at bioaccumulation. They are good at removing pollutants from the ground, but do not always break them down. The problem is that someone foraging for edible mushrooms will not necessarily know how polluted their substrate is, and might poison themselves unknowingly.

I love fungi!!! And who knows maybe they do carry nutrients between trees . Oddly enough many scientists make claims they cant prove or attempt to prove with biased research. Then on the other hand they often discredit any ideas that dont fit their narrative. And how many times has science claimed that things aren't possible and defame people because they dont have their credentials.......and 5 years later the idea is proven to be true, yet they dont acknowledge their mistake and will often capitalize on it. Science is very important but we have to remember many of these people are driven by agendas based on funding and biased opinions

Loved all of this video, but i am left wanting on the spritual side of mushrooms/psilocybin. Maybe another video to go deeper there? I can only imagine that more psychotropic influence (if responsibly used) would open up more people's thinking about the power of mushrooms in the ways you elucidate, Alana. What's most interesting to me about tripping, i think, is its similarities to deep meditation states in the brain. i am no scientist but i have heard that the "default mode network" of the brain (strangely labeled) which is so responsible for our sense of atomization/separateness is attentuated by magic mushrooms. Thus mystic truths like the oneness of all beings become far easier for the rest of us to grasp, perhaps without so much discipline. It's weird to talk about shortcuts to enlightenment given the capitalistic world you so rightly point out in each video, and yet i think giving ourselves a "leg up" (spore up?) in this regard could be quite welcome. Especially if we design protocols of meditation that complement magic mushroom intake.
