The House with No Name
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 พ.ย. 2024
We're Amy and Kieran, we're renovating an abandoned house (With some forest!) in Central Portugal.... And we're doing ALL the work ourselves!
We're brand new to house renovations so we have a lot of learning to do, so follow along as we learn new skills, take on life in a new country and turn our abandoned house into the home we never thought we could own

We get water AND electricity at our central Portugal renovation home
Still just getting things started on the house renovation, but we're finally getting past white paint!!
To coloured paint instead....
Actually though, we are getting into some more projects, that require more than just decorating. We get water AND electricity!
Our amazing agents Kirsty and Chris were absolutely world class:

We highly recommend finding a good agent if you are looking for property abroad, Kirsty and Chris and undoubtedly some of the best out there! 😄

Big thank you to EVERYONE who watched the first episode, we wanted to show the full house but got carried away on getting stuck into projects so we could actually move in! We had a chance to actually film a full tour of the property and what we're planning to do, at least in the very short term and what we hope to do long term - We're doing it ALL ourselves, so we need to acquire some skills! Kitchen colour looks great. So warm and inviting.
Love what you're doing, however I am not a fan of the dark green room, and would have left ceiling white as the room is so dark now.
Glad to see you guys are happy in my country. As you, i left behind family, friends, 2 houses and some land to live abroad. wish ou all the best. PS~can you please change that color? she´s awful
Dwli ar y fideo, just wondering if you speak the language of Heaven. Llanelli girl here. I'm a little jealous of you realising your dreams (I just wrote drams and I thought how Scottish ! lol I currently live in Australia but planning on coming back to Europe to live and the favourite at the moment is Portugal. Well done on chasing the dream. Looking forward to the next vid. ❤❤❤
What an absolutely fascinating house with all the levels and general quirkiness.
Fab vlog thank you
The greeny- grey colour looks great against the dark wood doors. Well done for being so bold!
For big cleaning jobs you can use a product called sugar soap, hopefully you can get it there. It is a cleaner that you can put on, wearing gloves and is really good if there has been cooking etc.
The new paint is tooooo dark. Repaint with at least quarter strength. The minute you painted the ceiling it became so dark and depressing.☹️😦
Thank you for the introduction. Is PT going to be your permanent home? If so, have you applied for a visa? (If so, which one and how long did it take please ?)😊
Not a fan of the dark room. Rather all white for more light. But I don't live there. 😂
Who paints their ceiling dark green. That is so ugly. Paint it white.
The beauty about owning your own property is the freedom to paint the inside whatever color you like. 😉
I'm really glad to have found your content as well, it's very refreshing to hear how positive this experience has been so far and you guys are really entertaining on camera, in a good way lol. I am planning on going to Europe next year to look at properties and Portugal is definitely on my list. Look forward to following your journey, greetings from Cape Town.❤️
We’re so relieved that the process has been smooth - and blown away by how friendly local people and people of TH-cam have been 🥰🥰 just wait til you see Amy have a tantrum with a drill soon - great entertainment in the learning process. Good luck with the search for property, Kirsty and Chris are DEFINITELY worth contacting!
I enjoy your videos. Have a great week.
Thanks for your support 🙏🙏 have a great week too 😊
Nice to meet you guys. There seems to be always something funny happening in your vlogs. Reminds me a little bit of the movie "The Money Pit". Keep up the good work! 👌
@@TJagIII haha we are somewhat accident prone so far! Plenty more disasters to come! We don’t know the film, but will check it out 🥰🥰
@@TheHousewithNoName Oh yeah keep them up, it's very entertaining haha Not really sure if you should watch the movie, it's with Tom Hanks, kind of a funny depressing House renovation - a classic!
Tom hanks and Meg Ryan movies are some of my favourites. So it depends if they’re both in it!
As an old retired Scotsman married in Germany two questions. What part of Scotland and what part of Wales ? All the very best to you both, 😊
@@TomWilson-ir6uq haha very fair! Edinburgh and Carmarthen 😊where in Scotland and Germany are you at/from?
@ hi Kirkcaldy and Ansbach 😀
That was funny, pretty unusual plumbing, i guess not the last of surprises.
Unusual would be a great way to describe it 😂😂 and certainly won't be the last surprise
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
@@isabelinhagomes9076 haha that’s exactly how we feel too!
Jullie zijn lekker bezig 💪💪👌 From Nederland
@@galida78 Hartelijk dank! We doen ons best en leren elke dag ❤️
BEST of luck on your journey! I'll be watching.
@@arleenfotiu6095 thanks so much! Hopefully we’ll keep you entertained along the way 😊
Good luck with this project. Miss you both and love you loads. Have a great Christmas!
@@abiodunmichaelolatokun2844 thanks Abi! Miss you guys too! Have the best Christmas ❤️❤️ may santa bring you many gains 💪🏼💪🏼
All the very best wishes, looking forward to you next video 😊
Thank you so much for the support 🙌🙌🙌🙌
I think you should have the bedroom and bathroom in the bottom floor of your planned rental. That would leave the upper floor with views for the living room and kitchen . ❤
That's actually a great idea, we'll look at how it works out - Will depend on how much light we can get in through the windows and then see how it would work 🙌
Re the tiling. here is a link to an absolute master at tiling in Portugal. Expats like you two. Actually they are well worth following www.youtube.com/@Portugalonashoestring
All the best for the renovation. Having done lots of house renovations including painting I am wondering why you have been using primer as first and second coats. After you have cleaned washed, sanded, replastered holes, sanded .....The usual painting system is primer (and if the walls are good otherwise you only need to use this on surfaces where you have gone down to the original substrate ie the plaster), undercoat, then several top coats. This is is designed especially as each of these types of paint has a specific purpose/properties. If you are going to have all the ceilings white then a product called ceiling white is a flat matt paint with good coverage that is used especially for ceilings, ie covers well so you are not having to put multiple coats on. Some paint shops will tint celing white so it does not always have to be dead white.
That is super helpful! Thanks so much, we definitely will have more painting to do in the future, so will go with that plan 🙌
I love the blue paint.
Yeaahhh!! It looks great right?? Took abit of a gamble because it was pretty much the first one we saw 😂
Good luck with your huge project folks.
Thank you so much for the support, really appreciate it 🙌
Big house with one outside we,shower?.
You are both going to have a big journey ahead. To all those on about the sound, give them a break and make give constructive advice, after all they are new at this and it will get there. My suggestion is to watch how many other channels have done exactly what you are attempting.Good luck going forward and please make the ceilings all white as they give the impression of more space.Cheers.
Thank you so much for the support, really appreciate it! We got the sound pretty bad in this one, sorted it all out for the latest video Awesome suggestion, we've been watching some but any suggestions on people to watch are definitely welcome

Obrigado! Thanks so much for the support 🙌🙌
I bought a house in Coimbra last Feb. I got a water heater from Leroy Merlin, Bosch, 400 euros and it works very well. Simple install. I was planning to get D7 visa but they removed NHR tax breaks and I am waiting for them to reinstate it (tax increased from 10% to 34%). Obviously having a forest means you need to think about fire risk. Something you need to do before summer. Last Sept. was really bad for fires and I could see them from my house.
We've got a water heater ready to go, install coming soon! Yeah certainly will be some work to take care of the forest - Got a plan for early next year 🙌
🥰🥰🥰 This is exciting........ can't wait to see your exciting journey/adventure with this project!!
Looking forward to your renovation videos - thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching! 🙏🙌
They sell a rubberized paint on sealant I have seen other newbies use to create a seal. But the concrete cement needs to dry before you seal.In that moisture. I'm not sure you'll have very good luck unless that moisture dries out. Since cement holds moisture, not a great time of the year to have that drying happen too easily. A heater, in that bathroom would help dry it out for you since heat rises it would help dry out the sealing. Do they have mold additives for your paint that you're using? In the house to help prevent mold? Some type of slanted roof on that bathroom is what you really need to slide the water off it.
The room does get the sun for the whole day, especially this time of year Ideally would like to have it dry out for months but need a quick fix for now So think we're going with the waterproof painting There is a pitch that allows run off, especially now it's actually been cleaned May go with something more permanent as a solution during the summer 🙌
Hi Looking forward to your journey, new subbie, do remember to keep as much stuff as you can like the tiles and any wood you find. Invest in a good spade and a wheelbarrow, Have a great week ahead. xxx Dede
Thanks so much Dede! Sounds like some real solid advice We'll need a spade and wheelbarrow for the garden for sure
I’m enjoying your videos, but I think you need microphones so we can hear you both.
The gym would not be a prority for me. You have no conception of the workout you have ahead of you with the building and the land. Play your gym music and do your fitness workout as you demolish, rebuild, paint and garden.😊
There are lots of plusses in your village house. Decent windows and a bathroom. Many portugese renos have no inside bathrooms. The floors in your bedrooms are lovely.
Certainly a load of positives!! We saw a few without bathrooms and in significantly worse condition Love the tiles right?!?
Portugal on a shoestring had similar issues with bathroom roof. They put several coats of a rubber like sealer over a mesh on their roof which appears to have done the trick.
Wood fire oven for leitão 🐖!
Talk to neighbours, I think you will find it may have had a name in the past.
#760 !
Congratulations on your home. One day at a time, hard work, patience and it will be your dream home. I vote leave the door on for the pantry. Can't wait to see your next video.
Look forward to more. We've just completed on a house near Arrifana, Coimbra that needs renovating! Please can you tour your land and woodland so we can see. You got a lot of house for the money!
@@sarahcampbell-t2g amazing! You’re going to love it! When do you move?!
@TheHousewithNoName hopefully Jan/Feb. Look forward to your next video!😊😊
@ amazing! Good luck with the move ☺️ so worth it!
You guys have some really nice plans already and loads of different areas to do. Living there is going to be the best way to decide on where, what and when things are going to be done. The old part with the two small bedrooms is the typical Portuguese style house. There are so many possibilities it's going to be a great project. 👍
Hello guys, I just found your content and I'm really pleased I found it right at the beginning. You have already made a huge difference in a few days, I am really looking forward to seeing how it all goes. Greetings from Cape Town.👍
