    By building more lanes you will move warehousing jobs from San Bernardino to the growing warehouses in Phoenix. All those trucks could have been loaded here but now they just drive through San Bernardino County using our roads but paying no taxes or usage fees because they pick up in the ports of LA county and drop off in Arizona. You are inducing demand to drive through San Bernardino County instead of improving our county.

    It is so frustrating to see this poor sighted investment in hydrogen and officials in this meeting avoiding discussing catenary electrification by interpreting "electrification" to mean battery EMUs every time. 18 months of testing in Germany found hydrogen trains to be operationally and economically inefficient compared to proven overhead catenary electrification. Both hydrogen and diesel systems have more costly maintenance and noticeably worse performance (especially when accelerating). Despite higher upfront cost, electric catenary systems are cheaper over the long term, and have the added benefit of being easily powered by 100% renewable green energy. Hydrogen production is either not environmentally friendly or not energetically efficient. Battery EMUs would at least set a clear path to full catenary electrification by sharing infrastructure, whereas hydrogen requires investing in a whole new dead-end system. The higher upfront cost of catenary electrification can be avoided and therefore be very economically feasible if done stepwise and combined with batteries. Install catenary at stations and their approaches and 90% of the performance benefits of catenary are achieved with minimal cost. The trains "top up" the battery at the station, and can take advantage of the catenary to accelerate at full power. You can then slowly electrify the rest of the corridor over decades.

    The express lanes on the cajon pass is another classist infrastructure project. The people who couldn't afford to live south of the cajon pass are the ones that live in the Mojave area. So instead of making things more accessible, tou priced out the poorer citizens, and exiled them to wait in traffic, or leave significantly earlier to work, and leaving significantly later to go home. The richer people just pay for the convenience. You are creating a system that allows the rich to get to the front of the line using OUR tax dollars to build it.

Don't be a dictation and take away access to the public... especially by practically begging for it in this zoom. This is so sad to see, you are taking away when you should be doing the opposite, it's not like you haven't put up enough signage warning the people. What is the timeline for the FRA quiet zone approval? Citizens were told throughout construction and testing that the routine sounding of the train horn would end with passenger service starting and that was clearly a lie.

    • @gosbcta2960
      @gosbcta2960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The project has always been developed with quiet zones in mind. The construction team built the federally required enhancements at the crossings to make it qualify for that designation. Back in February, the project delivery team worked with the cities of San Bernardino and Redlands to submit the respective applications to the Federal Railroad Administration for their final approval. In August, after still no response from the FRA, the project delivery team started engaging with the federal reviewers to encourage approval prior to the start of service. Nonetheless, we have not received the approval to implement quiet zones, and therefore, by law, Metrolink is required to operate the trains using a series of horns at the at-grade street and pedestrian crossings of the service line. We continue to emphasize to the FRA that quiet zones are both a critical piece of this public offering and extremely important for quality of life for the residents and business owners of our communities. We believe the decision is imminent, but until received we must continue to operate as is. The early and late service schedules were adjusted to reduce a portion of the impact, but we sincerely know that doesn’t fix all of the issues. We assure you, however, that SBCTA is doing everything we can to accelerate the process with the federal agency involved.

  • @CaryCotterman
    @CaryCotterman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lies, nothing but lies. The FAQ on this website states: "Once operations of the RPR begin, the routine sounding of the horn will be eliminated entirely (except in emergency situations) as the RPR corridor falls under a Quiet Zone." That was a lie. This clown in the video says it's only running between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. He lies. The train horn wakes me up every morning around 5:30, even if I have all my windows closed. I'm sitting here right now, after 10:30 at night, hearing the train horn. When will they stop lying?

  • @bulldogsid
    @bulldogsid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you are blowing horns as part of the testing process, and educating the public as to the existence of the train. Of course, you are training people to listen for the horn. This isn't about safety - it's about bureaucracy and being able to click a box that says "we did the training the way a bureaucrat told us we should." This video is sad spin. Meanwhile, people who live for miles around the train corridor are suffering from the disruption caused and endorsed by the SBCTA. We were told no horns, and yet we have been hearing horns for months, disrupting our sleep and our day to day activities. It doesn't matter that it is ending - it matters that you all didn't find a better way to serve the public without being a nuisance.

    The truly Big Need that I and thousands of other Redlands residents have is the need to sleep. These damned train horns are disrupting sleep as early as 4:30 a.m. for a lot of people who have no need or desire to be awakened at that hour. I live nearly a mile from the tracks and it wakes me up. It must be horrible for the many, many people who live even closer. A train horn needs to be loud enough to alert people nearby. It does not need to be so loud that it's disturbing people a mile or more away. It's not only causing sleep deprivation, it's a constant annoyance all day, often until after 11:00 at night. It blows, and blows, and blows, and blows, and blows incessantly. There is no peace. The quality of life has been ruined in our town by this nuisance. I really hope that video guy is telling the truth, and this ridiculous train horn blowing stops soon.
