Great info. Is it ok to cast when the leader knot is in the guides? I have a 100HH typeR and I am using pe6 and 150lbs leader.
Refreshing to get a good, honest review by pointing out the rod's downfalls and suitability for different lure sizes & weights.
Another awesome vid Duncan. Would be great to see the difference between this rod and the UCB 81 Extreme MH.
blue sniper copycat?
What size reel matches this rod?
Another great informative video! You said you were going to do a video on the Ocean Devil Diablo Shallow Spirit ODDSS76F-60 rod? Any idea when you’ll do it? It’s an interesting rod
Hi from Cairns. Thanks for another great video 🫡🙏
Another fantastic review Duncan. What are the main differences (apart from the obvious length) vs the FCL Extreme 81 MH I bought? Cheers
Great job really helpful, I love this kind of review 🙌🏽🎣
Glad you enjoyed it, we'll have more coming in the future!
Hello my friend, I want your opinion in all frankness and honesty. Is this rod the manufacturing quality is excellent compared to the rods on the market for tuna fishing? I do not want a courtesy answer
I have had no issues with the manufacturing quality of these rods and the build is all neat. In some places the binding is not as tidy as some Japanese models, but you have to look hard to see it. The blank for the Diablo 81F 220 is a little heavy compared to some, but that is because the design is biased towards comfort and power when fighting big fish, rather than light feel when working lures/casting. The guides are Fuji Alconites which saves some money on the cost compared to putting Fuji SiC on, so that helps keep the price down.
Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome video mate ,you are great at explaining. Thanks for the info 🙏🫡
Glad you like it, we will have more rod videos out shortly!
Thanks for the video. Do you have an opinion on the use of double hooks? Also, what model of Decoy trebles do you recommend? Nige from Sydney
Hi Nige, I used to use back to back hooks (Baker rig) on the belly quite a bit. I did find that on fatter bodied lures, the hooks often laid flat along the body and missed a lot of hookups compared to trebles. Once hooked up they were excellent. Running double assist hooks on the lures is not a setup I use often, but it has gained a lot of popularity in Japan. The extra length and flexibility from the cord allows the hook to be sucked into the fishes mouth more easily and is very hard to shake out when set. It's well worth considering on tuna and kings. For the heavy lures I use Decoy Y-S23 - usually the 'magic barbless'. For the smaller heavy duty lures I like Decoy Y-S22.
@fishheadtackle thank you for the inf0
Great video once again. Can you do a review on some of the fishlogica rods?
Hi Kelvin, It is on our to-do list!
Thanks Duncan! 👌 We need more Patriot Design rod reviews 😀
We'll see what we can do!
What is PE stands for?
The PE stands Poly Ethylene which is what the braided lines are made from. The number rating tells you the thickness of the PE line, which comes from a traditional Japanese system used for measuring diameters of silk or something similar. When braided lines first came out it was convenient that the typical breaking strain of PE1 was 10lb, PE2 was 20lb, PE3 was 30lb and so on, so it was a simple way to describe rods and line. Now things are more confusing because better lines and braiding techniques mean that PE2 could be 30 or 35lb breaking strain. So the system is not perfect but for now it is the way that Japanese saltwater tackle is categorised - least until someone comes up with a better method.
now i know,thanks to you. @fishheadtackle 👍
Thanks Duncan
Can you guys ship rods to the US? Also very informative channel the best when it comes to techical saltwater tackle! Keep up the great work!
Hi Sam, yes we ship to the US. Thanks!
Possible fish that rod with pe6 line
Hi, I have used this rod with PE6, it is fantastic for distance casting and the rod will still load up well. You won't quite load it fully at the butt though, as it is ideally built for PE8-10
Thanks for the video!
Glad you found it useful!
So how do you end up with guaranteed hooks facing point to point?
I'm sure there is a method to guarantee it, but every time I hitch the two hooks to the ring in the middle, one of the hooks twists to an odd angle! To help fix this, when I do the little whip finish on the cord up at the solid ring, I twist everything into alignment before adding a coat of UV glue. That seems to hold them the right way. Having said that - after a couple of fish the angles on the hooks often change, no matter if it's a homemade or commercially made rig. They still work fine and does not seem to affect hook up rates as far as I can tell. If you want to be really sure of the angles, you might have to go with hollow spliced cord, where you make 2 separate assists attached to the one solid ring (That will likely be the next video). It is easier to be more precise with that style of rigging, but it is a lot more time consuming to make.
Hi Duncan nice and informative video as always, Just wondering whether you will be recording any of your trip to Vanuatu and if we'll ever see any of it? PS: I recently got the SNIPE 86 and it's safe to say I'm getting another Zenaq shortly. The quality and sensitivity is truly unparalleled.
I'm planning to shoot plenty on the Gopros in Vanuatu - hopefully will get some good action shots, as well as doing some tech stuff on the new Zenaq Ikari Jig rods. Glad you like the Snipe! The sensitivity in those blanks is outstanding.
Is it Okay to use 100g poppers on the tobizo TC80-80G? Will the rod handle it nicely?
A 100g popper is going to be right at the top of the casting range for the Tobizo 80-80. It depends a little on the cup size of your popper and whether the lure is 100g with or without hooks. A small cup face popper that is 100g including the hooks is likely to be just within its range. A large cup face popper or a lure that comes in at 115g including the hooks is going to be a bit much for the rod.
Is it possible to do some rockshore jigging up to 80g with a Zenaq Hiramasa? The Hiramasa is the only Zenaq I have and I do stickbait mostly.
Hi, You certainly could do it with the Hiramasa Sinpaa rod. It might not get as good action as the longer Accura rods, but it should be decent enough to get bites when the stickbaits aren't working for you.
@fishheadtackle Thank you very much for the advice.
I subbed for the correct technical term "tarting them up" being used.
I always aim for technical correctness!
Thanks Duncan for the video, I will be watching and waiting for the next ones. Some great tips in there.
Hey Duncan, Huerco x Yamanami Limited Edition Mountain Stream Bait Finesse Rod. Are you able to bring any in?
I have a couple going on the website in the next week!
@@fishheadtackle I will definitely be coming in to collect one.
Loving these videos Duncan keep it up 👍
Got my Bottom sensor 15 mins ago. Steez SV TW on it, what do ya reckon :D Cheers Alex!
Hey Alex, That's a great outfit. It should be awesome on bass, jacks and barra!
Based on this review, I bought a couple here in japan. Looking forward to catching a few fish with them.
Good day, very interesting rod Zenaq Fokeeto FC76-3 Twitch. Could you tell me what size reel would fit this rod? I wanted to put Shimano Stella SW6000HG, what do you think ? ☺️ Thank you
Love the videos legend! Mahalo nui loa to you champs at FishHead 🤙🏾 Aloha
🤙Much appreciated
Killer action! 🔥
Super! 😍👍 What's tackle used ( Rod, reel and line)? Thanks in advance.
Hey mate I just purchased a Shimano Twinpower 10000 and I'm looking for a rod to complement it but I do not have enough money to spend 1000 dollars on a rod, what budget friendly rods ($500-$650) would you recommend for stick baiting/popping for pelagics aswell as some reef flats fishing? Cheers mate, Diesel
Great review. Funnily enough I bought this after a short conversation with Duncan. Should have watched this video beforehand! Can't wait to cast and hook up!
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid. Very informative. Could you make a vid on budget to midrange rods next?
@fishheadtackle what PE line weight is your recommendation for casting 60grams up to 180grams? Much appreciated.
Great video! Someone know about max drag of the Fooketo Twitch 73-3?
Hi, Most brands don't list a max drag rating because the actual weights are very dependent on the angle of the load. The higher the rod angle, the more the tip is taking the load. So for a rod like the Twitch 73-3, I would expect 4-5kg of drag with the rod held up at 45 degrees and the weight hanging straight down. When the fish is pulling at a shallow angle away from the angler, or the rod is held at a lower angle, then max drag of 6, 7 or 8kg could possibly be used. Hope that helps!
Really great vids!! Can you please make a video taking about braided line (like brand, pe needed to used). Thank you
Hi We'll look into it and see what we can do on the subject.
I like how u break down the most important part 〽️ how you move the bait ❤
Can you test the Ocean Devil 74? THANKS
We review the Ocean Devil Diablo 74 in the PE 4-5 Review th-cam.com/video/JnCGB50nTMM/w-d-xo.html
@@fishheadtackle I mean the most powerful one for big GT and Tuna, thx
The TBO 180s is certainly a fish magnet. I recommend swapping out the trebles for one if not two singles though. The lure has a lot of girth, and it rolls in the fish’s mouth. I had 4 strikes from mid to large sized GT a couple of days ago and couldn’t set the hook on any of them. Was using BKK raptor trebles. Next time will swap out for two 7/0 singles. Lure is now covered in teeth marks but hasn’t yet caught a fish.
Hi, Usually with a round bodied lure I would favour the treble on the belly, because there is always a prong sticking clear from the body, whereas the single can lay flat against the lure. If they were pretty large GTs then it's possible the size of the treble was struggling to get a grip around the fishes jaw, as BKK Raptors to match the TBO 180 are not huge hooks. In this case I would also swap to the singles - you get a larger gape hook for the weight, as well as a significantly stronger hook. The only downside will likely be missing some of the smaller bycatch species that hit the lure.
What are your thoughts on the Zenaq tc80-50 compared to the rest of the rods on your list?
All the rods in the PE2-4 video are in the shorter 7'3-7'8 range. These shorter rods are very versatile for doing both horizontal presentations, like casting minnows and topwaters, as well as more vertical presentations like hopping soft baits and vibes across the bottom. Once you go to an 8 foot rod like the Tobizo 80-50, with its longer butt and tip, then the rod gets much better for the topwaters and minnow lures, but not as good for vertical presentations. So bottom line is the Tobizo 80-50 is a fantastic topwater/minnow rod but not as versatile for other presentations
@@fishheadtacklethank you for your time and the information. Great video
Nice one,how much does it weights???ps:wishing you a quick recovery mate 😊👍🤙🤙
The FCL Labo CSP 110 IFS Sinking is 38g and floating is 23g
Someone dishonest unfortunately has nicked my HKMT 55 MD and the 45 that I purchased from you. Any chance you can get more?? They are phenomenal on bass and trout!!! Get well soon Duncan!
We don't have many of the little HKTM lures left, but there are a couple in stock. The tiny lures are ones they don't build so often, but they are very effective on the trout! fishhead.com.au/fcl-labo-hktm-45/ fishhead.com.au/fcl-labo-hktm-55md-diving-minnow/
Good video as always. Hope your arm recovers well
Thanks, it's getting there, but a few more weeks until I can put weight on it
Thank you for the video
You're welcome
Awesome video of some familiar lures, great to see the drone footage of how they really swim! Keep them coming Duncan 👌
Thanks, will do!
be nice to know lure weights and best hook config/sizes :0)
