Quick release, don't let the goalie get set. Pound it home.
The Theory of Competition
มุมมอง 6K14 ปีที่แล้ว
The theory of evolution claims that only the strong shall survive. Maybe so. But the theory of competition says just because they are the strong, that doesn't mean they can't get their asses kicked. This isn't a math test... passion has a funny way of trumping logic.

When we want to win the draw back, take a little less of the faceoff dot to help get to the puck faster... take a look and practice it.

10 minutes left . And Jim Craig put on the Greatest performance for a goalie.
When the movie came out a millennial said, what is the Big deal? It's just a hockey movie . As an early Gen Xer, I said , no it's not. You have no idea what this victory did and meant you our country at that time.
I remember being a fifth grade kid, 11 years old watching the winter Olympics and every hockey game that the Americans won was so awesome. We were so shocked when we beat the Soviet Union. Hockey was not our sport. We had baseball, football and basketball. We beat them at their own sport.
Story of my life. I hope you enjoyed it. 141 Homestead Dr.
Story of my life. I hope you enjoyed it.
I was on the USS Oldendorf DD 972 when we beat the Russians. The gold medal game against Finland always meant more to me.
The Greatest Game of All Time.
The gold medal speech was the best Herb ever Gave he said if you dont win this game, you will take it to your grave
They never show the fight in the stands , security came and threw out the american fans and the crowd went Nuts until the Russians were thrown out also Sec 22. between 2nd and thrd period. I was there and have 120 photos I shot at this game.
The Soviet player, "are they drunk or what?" Heys me every time 😅😅
Greatest upset in the history of hockey. Team USA was indeed a team. Thanks for that effort boys. Still brings tears to my eyes when I watch it.
Still gets the eyes watering and nose running after all these years! That win over the Soviets sparked a fire in America. After 2 decades of turmoil, a down economy and nothing but bad news all across America, these boys playing my favorite sport reminded an entire nation that anything....is possible...if yoh are willing to work for it and to become a team! The single greatest victory in American team sports. The single greatest call by announcer Al Michaels! The Miracle on Ice!
Back then huh......CCCP were by far the World Champions. The USA was just lucky. The USA have blown the context of reality up. Politically CCCP is stronger than USA politicians by a billion miles. The USA is no longer deserving respect as the global leader.........booooyahhhhhh
This made soviets arrogant maybe. Change to loosing increased.
Soviet sportsmen never smiled thats true. Followed their dominance in athletics thru 70's and 80's. They were only ones without smile as a winners.
I was there and I saw the team warming up but never got to watch history be made- thank you guys for a real american dream- those just do not exit in today's world anymore.
the Russians told it like it was you have to respect them
Question...if the US lost the gold medal game, wouldn't they have won a silver?
no, 4th
@1MrErling ok but that doesn't make sense
Still gives me chills 45 years later
Lot of NHL players with familiar names on that Finnish team.
I would love to see sports played like that again . Love of team Country and each other .
Amazing time . God Bless the USA!
Exactly what our Country needed then?
I remember the last ten minutes and just was sure Craig would have to break .The Soviets knew they absolutely had to score and shot after shot , but then save after save . This story can never again have the aligned circumstances in sports altering the spirit of a country . We were blessed , and we got the best of American passion, wisdom and ability from a coach , Herb Brooks . No one else could have done it
USA USA USA!!!!!
I was the puck handler (equivalent to the ball boy during a baseball game) for this game and I swear it WAS NOT as exciting as the US media subsequently portrayed --- I actually fell asleep during the 3rd period because of how inconsequential the game was within the grand scheme of things #capnjazz
Well, not ever coach is a winner. I’m very happy and proud that a long assistant coach has finally received his recognition. Absolutely! Baseball, remains America’s greatest sport. Yep!
I had listened to the game live on shortwave radio, so I knew the outcome several hours before most people. When I tried telling people we won, no one believed me.
44 years later, it's still the greatest hockey game ever played.
Al Michaels doing hockey play by play with goaltending legend Ken Dryden as commentator for the game against the U.S.S.R. Did Al Michaels ever do hockey again after those Olympics? I don't know but this is certainly the most excited I've ever heard him sound. This victory against the mighty Soviets was a "Where were you when that happened?" kind of moment as far as I'm concerned. Jumping up and down in the living room is my answer. Even as a Canadian, I was overjoyed at seeing an upset of such magnitude. International hockey has changed so much since with NHL players in the Olympics now.
Finnland gave you the present😊
You are correct, James Craig and Mike urusionly came in to my restaurant in Saint Petersburg florida with their wives and signed a bottle of wine saying believe
The soviets would have beaten the Americans 9 out of 10 times. The American win was the 10th time.
I was 14 at the time. Scared of the Soviets like everyone was during the Cold War. Their athletes, in all the sports, were phenomenal. And here our boys beat the Bear. I get tears in my eyes and remember that game, grown men crying and the Patriotism to this day. It truly was a wonderful miracle and did so much for this country. And to see the Soviet team almost enjoy their win was incredible. And as one commentator said, thank goodness they were not punished. Because we thought they would be.
That was NOT a cheap shot
Nice to see TRUE patriotism.
No doubt the GREATEST moment in US sports history, the most amazing game ever played
Yes
Good to see that the Soviet players were not punished and Breshnev even tried to console Tichonov. Under Stalin this would have been a different fate for them. I am old enough to rember that Soviet team and they looked absolutely unbeatable, usually winning close to 10-0 against most teams. If you forget the whole commie stuff for a second, it's extremely hard to be that good and keep your concentration up in every game. Also, if you play against a college team you never know who you are up against, normally they should beat these guys easily but I bet they had hardly any info on the American players. And if you happen to face a team of nobodies who are actually really good, everyone can lose a game.
The one of the greatest moments in sport’s history
Jim Craig the giant killer
Ken Dryden was practically rooting for the soviets. What a dick.
I remember watching this almost like it was yesterday. I remember where I was… San Diego California serving in the US NAVY. There was a lot of turmoil in the world at that time. This game against the Russians was more than just a game. Patriotism was somewhat lack luster due to the malaise of Jimmy Carter. This game gave America a shot in the arm that it badly needed. The guys scratched and clawed along their way. Nothing was given to them! Not an inch! Their resilience was Miraculous! To the team if you read this: 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Truly A Miracle
We were watching a video feed in Alaska. Lost the video at 3 minutes left. Absolute bedlam in the bar for a 1:30. Then bedlam again for joy
That was a true miracle. Even just a hockey game God favored this American team. The Soviet Union was so afraid to lose to the West that they refrain from allowing Tretiak to play for the Montreal Canadiens despites the Canadiens drafted him. His contract was bought off to stay in the Soviet Union.
I'm a huge sports fan. 58 years old. To this day I have only cried twice. Secratait winning by 31 lengths and this amazing, almost unbelievable Miracle!!
Do you believe in miracles is beyond iconic.... Lost in it all is this impossible dream has come true
I'm 16 again
I'm not even American (English, but now live in the USA) and I was never even interested in ice hockey. However, I was here at the time this game was played and it was one of the greatest moments I've ever known. Even now, I watch this game frequently, despite it being so many years ago. Yet, seeing it is still one of the most memorable experiences of all time.
I hate hockey! This was the only hockey game I ever watched from start to finish. I scared for the USA kids, almost like they were going to war.
I'm 56 now, I was 12 then. Still love it. Still gives me goosebumps
