As fathers, we face challenges that go beyond what we can see. We must equip ourselves with spiritual armor to protect our families and lead them with strength and wisdom. Asshat galore..
I forgot to mention the literary context of Romans 14:17. Among the early Church there were some who judged others faith negatively based on what they ate. Earlier, in the same section(14:1-3): “Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one that does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them”.
Hi, During Bible study discussions with others I have seen this quote be used to argue that the Kingdom of God is abstract, “within you”, or “spiritual”. I can understand why. When studying this quote in isolation one may think,”food and drink are substantial, and the scripture is says it is not food and drink, therefore the Kingdom of God is abstract”. But consider the “Our Father” prayer(also called the Lord’s Prayer”. So many of us have been taught to memorize it. There is the powerful line” Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven”. It is not until I joined a non-denominational Bible study that I learned that we are praying for the Kingdom to come to Earth. If the Kingdom is abstract or within us it would not make sense to pray that line. In Acts 3:20-21 there is the quote, “and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you-even Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holly prophets”. Therefore, the Kingdom of God is real, yet to come, and a time for restoration. We know of how Jesus fulfilled what prophets said about him. In this Kingdom of God the Earth will be restored to its Green Edenic state(Isaiah 35:1-2), lost families will reunite( Malachi 4:6), and everyone will be brought back alive( 1 Corinthians 15:21-22). I should also add that the Scriptures tell us the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God-“God gives you his Holy Spirit’(1 Thessalonians 4:8). (If you’re wondering, the Bible study group that I mentioned has a website called christianityoriginal.com). Take care.
Shouldn’t be a step dad, period.
