That's an old 3 legged roller.
Can you not weld a thick plate on top of the old floor , Just to save taking out all those rivets, An awful lot of work taking those out.
Yes I could but I will still have the problem of the rusty floor and further issues later, best to sort it out properly now, thanks for the question.

While built by a different company, this is VERY similar to RMS Titanic's DC generators.
I think they may have copied each others designs.
