Slight nitpick, if a is less than zero, you still do have complex solutions via the imaginary number i which is root(-1), in the given example you’d get (+/- i root3) but if you don’t want to talk about imaginary numbers to your audience, just say there are no real solutions when a is less then 0 which does hold true as +/- i root3 is not a real number.

I did this in three lines of working as a high school student who has only done parts of calc I and calc II... not complicated whatsoever

√{(x-1)³}=27 √(x-1)(x-1)(x-1)=√27²=√9*9*9 Put x=10 Eqn. Also can be written as (x-1)³=27² (X-1)= I come back 🔙 really

Depends, for a high school kid just starting with calc 1 is pretty difficult. However, having done calc 3 at Uni, I can already tell the only "weird" part is the integral of ln x, which u can compute in ur head if u are experienced enough.
