SmartCarb SC2 | Carburetion Redefined
มุมมอง 5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
SmartCarb redefines carburetion for the 21st century. The SC2 is a modern, single circuit, jet-less, metering rod fuel system currently available for nearly all off-road 2-stroke dirt bikes (and more) and offers features and benefits no other carb does: Internal float bowl venting from inside of the airbox/filter provides superior air density compensation from minor to extreme elevation/tempera...

I really dig your product and would love one for my bike. BUT 900!?!?! These patents cant expire soon enough (2030). Here's to hoping that more companies can produce this at a better price point shortly thereafter.
Normally we ignore trolls like you, but we'd like to make a point in responding to your comment. True game-changing market innovation, R&D, market penetration, and education requires a Herculean effort over many years. That's what we do at SmartCarb Fuel Systems. We advance the sport that we all love and we do it with American manufacturing. This is a CNC billet precision instrument. To those companies that would even try to copy it we'd say good luck. There is more to it than meets the eye. And to you and others like you we'd say fund the innovation and advancement of the sport by buying from those actually doing it or lose it. hoe many clicks out did you end up setting it?
no boot modification needed on a 2025?
Nope! None of the Beta models require the trim.
Seen Cody race a couple of times at the Tennessee knockout. Nice guy. Old guy, ha ha . He’s got to catch up to Jarvis
The man speaks the truth!
Hi guys. I just got a SmartCarb and love it! Got a question: The spark plug is coming out wet. Is this normal with SmartCarb or do I need to lean it with the clicker? The bike starts and runs great now, just wondering about the wetness.

Hey Tony, sorry for the late response. Please reach out directly via email or over the phone in the future for faster assistance. What we look for in a plug reading is a mocha-tan coloration with the burn mark on the electrode strap to be on the bend. Our baselines are typically a bit rich out of the box and if the carb being replaced wasn't dialed it can be easy to take the SC2 performance improvement as-is without fully optimizing it. Fortunately the SmartCarb is extremely easy to adjust. Most customers go leaner from the as-delivered settings (counterclockwise on the top clicker adjuster). The adjustment resolution is extremely fine as well so we don't want to get too hung up on the number of clicks - but we do want to keep track. Write down your adjustments in the settings section in the back of the user manual included with your purchase. 5-15 clicks leaner is typical after the break-in period. Oil mix ratio can also play a role. We don't have hard recommendations for that, but too much oil in the premix can give a dark plug reading that isn't otherwise related to your actual rich/lean carburetion settings. Do reach out direct if you haven't already and we'll be happy to help!
Awesome video, hoping to get one soon!😊👍

Hello TE. I’ve acquired a SC2 recently and have a question: Does the stock AQ-11 needle work for a 2015 KTM 200?
using on a tuned 230 Lambretta 2T .running in at the moment but all good .for old scooter owners it might just save you pistons and seized kits .I will update after the run in period. Sounds lovely
I bought this carburetor from you with a tps sensor and an oil injection. can i use it also without the oil injection? whether the cables can be disconnected
If you have removed the oil injection from your Beta you can simply leave the TPS connected. You will also need to adjust the metering rod about 15 clicks richer (clockwise). Premix requires a richer setting because the fuel is diluted with oil. If you've taken your SmartCarb to a different bike then you can remove the TPS using a 2.5mm allen key to remove the two screws holding it in place. Either way you will need to go about 15 clicks richer for proper fueling.
thank you for the quick reply. decent company 👍
Great video, with step by step fitting instructions. Just missing a dyno test on the end....

Hi, which metering rod and how many clicks are right for my beta rr 300 2019 (premix 50:1) on a smartcarb sc2 36?
Hi, which metering rod and how many clicks are right for my beta rr 300 2019 (premix 50:1) on a smartcarb sc2 36?
If stock we recommend the A-Q11 metering rod set to around 82 clicks from full rich to start with. If you're running a high compression head and/or are using a race fuel or you are riding very aggressively the step richer A-Q09 may suit you better, same clicker count. How do you ride this Beta? Any engine/exhaust mods?
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems I ride mostly hard enduro and single tracks, average rider (not a pro, not slow), no mods to engine/exhaust, no special fuel (only the normal lead free gas we have in Europe). Premix (50:1) with motul 710.
@@masalapiaga thank you for the good information. A-Q11 set to 82 clicks baseline to start with. It may be a little rich still at that setting and you may end up going leaner to further crisp/clean up the bottom end idle and off-idle response. For the bike, how you ride it, your oil selection, and the use of a SmartCarb you may consider going out to 60:1 if you still see spooge down the silencer after fully dialing the carb in.
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems Thank you so much.
A dyno on an YZ 125 would be cool to see
As it happens we have 3rd party dyno testing data on a 2018 YZ125. See this link: smartcarbfuelsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Cafe_Racer_Dyno_Results_2018_YZ125-scaled.jpg Testing was performed on a mustang dyno at a shop called Cafe Racer in Kansas City. It's a step testing regimen (max engine loading at fixed RPM intervals as opposed to the traditional sweep test) with red/blue lines denoting the stock Mikuni TMX 38 both before and after SC2 testing to verify no major changes in air density during testing that could affect stock jetting performance one way or another. The green line represents the 36mm SC2. All testing performed same day with each line an average of 5 tests. Step testing data captured falls a little short of peak RPM for an engine like this at 9k RPM but we would expect the 36mm SC2 to continue pulling as hard or harder as the larger 38mm stock Mikuni, akin to what we've seen, for example in this 3rd party dyno testing performed at Bud Racing in France comparing the same 36mm SC2 to the stock 38mm Mikuni TMX on a 2020 KTM 125 SX: smartcarbfuelsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Bud_Racing_125SX_SC2_Dyno.jpg We'll leave you with this link to a review of the SmartCarb on a YZ125 by one of our customers: th-cam.com/video/2AJMzCqtais/w-d-xo.html Reach out with any questions.

UPDATE: The power supply portion of our Beta TPS kit (mentioned at 21:31) no longer requires splicing of any kind. The sensor power supply now clips directly into the diagnostic port itself using a waterproof connector (shown at 24:19). Jump to 26:02 to skip the outdated splicing instructions. All SmartCarb TPS kits use 100% soldered connections for maximum durability.
Is there any need to "teach" the TPS in the SmartCarb slide what the limit is? Will it oil correctly just plugging in and starting/riding?
@@ow-my-achilles1106 The ECU may need some time to learn the TPS voltage sweep from idle to WOT, meaning it will need to see those voltage limits a few times in conjunction with engine RPMs to apply the oiling rate. Some moderate riding with a few WOT blips/pulls is advised. If the check light comes on, you can triple restart the bike to soft-jog the ECU's memory. Unplugging it from battery power for 30 seconds will also help to reset it if necessary. Make sure you're not using a throttle tamer or short-throw cam in the handset and that your cable slack isn't excessive. The throttle slide needs to reach all the way up while riding in order for the ECU to see that top voltage (over 4v) to work correctly.
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems Ok thanks! I have recently had the carb out to install the rebuild kit. After a lengthy ride (56 miles) I found the bike was over oiling (lot of spooge at the exhaust). And my yellow MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) was intermittently coming on/off during the ride. That might be a bad connection somewhere.
@@ow-my-achilles1106 It is a very sensitive system, and for good reason. Double checking the connections is advised and ensuring full throttle ability. What is the serial number of your SmartCarb?
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems Found the cause of my MIL lamp... Both wires to the oil pump broke at the pump solenoid connector. My carb serial is 36BAK02018 . At least I know it shouldn't be the TPS sensor causing an issue. It was intermittent during the ride and must have gone to full oiling (I think that's the emergency behavior of the ECU with a lost oil signal). I just have to fiddle with or hardwire the pump solenoid connector.
please dont use them splice connections they are prone to water ingress and also can cut and fray your power wire...and then you will lose your oil injection signal....
We no longer use splice connections and haven't in a long time. Our current TPS connectors are all plug-and-play with water-tight connectors and fully soldered connections, sourcing power directly from the diagnostic port.
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems Ive just ordered a SC2 for my 22 Beta 300 rr non tps. Im in the uk so its coming from HTM racing Switzerland....
@@bobellisp5 very nice. We recommend the 36mm size with no TPS. Your bike came with TPS stock, however, and so you can either ignore the check engine light that will come on in the absence of TPS or you can disable it per Beta's oil injection delete kit instructions (clipping the pink and/or purple wire). If the bike is stock or mostly stock the A-Q11 metering rod is advised. If you run fairly higher compression over stock then the step richer A-Q09 may be advised. Starting point should be about 80 clicks out from full rich. Reach out with any questions anytime, we're happy to help.
Do you need to "Bleed" the carb every time after emptying the float bowl? What happens if you dont?
We always recommend opening the choke and filling the float bowl slowly when filling it from empty. Doing so allows the air in the bowl to purge out through the vent system. Leaving the choke closed and dumping the fuel to it can cause it to short circuit up the fuel nozzle without actually filling the bowl to the point of shut off, potentially loading up the engine. Also we recommend leaving fuel in the bowl between rides unless you're putting the bike up for a longer period of time. There are no jets or small orifices to clog in the SmartCarb. Some stabilizer in the fuel is also advised for longer term storage, draining of course and replacing with fresh before riding again.
@@SmartCarbFuelSystemswill a 36mm work on a 175cc kawasaki w175?
@@tristan6509 to the best of our knowledge that bike comes with a Mikuni VM24. If so then our 26mm SC2 would be advised. The Mikuni VM24 is used in all of the Austrian 65cc minis (KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas) and is a carburetor that we have extensive experience replacing.
Love it but sc2 sent it to me at 76 clicks I’m at 90 now. Runs amazing but falls on its face in 4th gear running people down on a fire road.
Please reach out to us via email or over the phone. It's possible that your setup is requiring a bit more fuel on the top end. A metering rod change may be necessary. Additionally we advise you to ensure no fuel tank venting restriction as it can cause a fuel flow restriction into the SmartCarb. We recommend using the stock fuel tank cap vent - not those stubby short ones or those with check-balls in them.
Can you guys do a video on tuning?
It's in the works and will be out by year's end. Stay tuned.
wheres the tuning video
If you were going to remove the Beta oil injection on this bike other than using an SC2 with no TPS application, would you still need the BETA OI delete kit?
Yes, removing the oil injection is best performed with Beta's oil injection deletion kit. That said, in the absence of TPS, the display may still show an error light. You can disable it per Beta's oi delete kit instructions, ignore it, or give the ECU the TPS sweep it expects to see by using TPS either on the SmartCarb SC2 or on the stock Keihin PXK.
Gracias
Hola, thank you for being a SmartCarb user. We recommend setting the clicker to 82 clicks from full rich. Full rich is adjusted clockwise until it stops. That is clicker count 0. From there, go 82 clicks counterclockwise. That should be close to an ideal setting. The trim inside of the airboot (between carburetor and air filter) is critical for the Sherco bikes. The trim of the floor of the intake flange (between carburetor and reed block) is not as critical but it is a good ideal. Using a dremel tool, you may lower the floor of the intake flange to match the floor of the SmartCarb’s venturi. That will smooth the air and fuel mixture flow out at low throttle positions. We hope this information helps.

That is a 2018-19 GasGas. 2020 is a red KTM.
You may be correct on the year and we may need to change our description. The practical differences regarding SmartCarb fitment and engine characteristics between the 2018-2020 models are minimal and we trust that this video remains a good resource for owners of these bikes looking for guidance with SmartCarb installation. We picked it up new in September/October 2019 which is about when the new model year 2020 bikes became available, but it could have been a carry-over from the prior year. GasGas did make a 2020 lineup before KTM acquired it, so there is a 2020 Spanish-made GasGas EC300. The red KTMs started with model year 2021, officially launched in September 2020.

What fuel ratio do you recommend with the smart carb?
That depends on the bike, how it's ridden, and what fuel selection you're using. For most Sherco 250s and 300s though we'd recommend 60:1 or possibly 65:1, especially if it's a hardcore trail/enduro ridden bike. What do you ride?
Just picked up a 2021 bets 250 rr with the oil injection. Def think this will be 1 of my first upgrades before anything else.
We've got just the carb for you!
Why buy a SmartCarb when you can buy a Lectron which is just as good and Cheaper.
Lectron would like you to think that, but no, it's not "just as good" as the SmartCarb. Compared to SmartCarb, Lectrons make less power, are soft on throttle response down low, they don't compensate for as wide of changes in elevation/temperature, they don't fit as well being longer end-to-end, they don't use stock throttle cables, they're not externally adjustable without tools and they have less than half the adjustment resolution, they have the choke on the wrong side, and they can't meet emissions requirements using that powerjet. Their latest HV and H Series models are all 4mm smaller than advertised which obviously reduces their peak flow and peak performance potential. The SmartCarb has nearly 40 years on the Lectron and offers a number of improvements that put it into its own league above the Lectron which is just one of its predecessors. See our article on their shared history and an objective look at how they compare: smartcarbfuelsystems.com/smartcarb-vs-lectron/
Hi! I have a Sherco 250 SE 2021. I ran into a problem. I ride at an altitude of 600-3200 meters. In the main, there are long ascents with an angle of 35-40%. Trails with a constant climb, logs and permutations with traverses. A gold S3 cylinder head is installed. With a long adjustment of the carburetor in the mountains, my mixture remains richer. Is very poor traction and detonation, as if it suffocates. I made leaner, I could not achieve good results. Already on the flat terrain, it was possible to achieve only a normal explosion from the first gear, then a slow acceleration is going on in 2 and 3 gear, in a hill with a long climb, the traction disappears and begins to stall. I compare it in the same conditions with Keihin. The carburetor was pre-configured and came with a needle for Sherco 300 SE 2021, I have 250 SE 2021. A-Q09 needle is used, in my opinion I need A-Q11 or Q13. Factory clicks: 15, idle set-screw:. 122. When setting up, I made about 60 clicks and this is not enough, the fuel mixture still does not burn out, it is very rich. Sluggish acceleration and undermining, the same thing in first gear. I compare it with a stock pre-tuned Keihin carburetor, difference is very large, I think that most likely it is due to the needle and the preset for the Sherco 300. I have already written to support Smartcarb. I attached photos and videos. Smartcarb is covered in oil, in the area of the float bowl. I did the cleaning, drained the float bowl and checked the level. Done the trim on the air boot and enter flange, adjusted and adjusted to the dimensions, everything is as per the instructions and checked that it does not overlap Please give recommendations, what should I do with the settings? And perhaps you can send the necessary needles for a fee, so that I can achieve stable operation from the carburetor. There are several Smartcarb units in our country, there is no one to consult and diagnose what the problem may be.
Hi Nikolay, thank you for commenting here as well. We are in email communication about your settings needing to be at 75, not 15. Forgive our bad handwriting. 15 will be much too rich and going 45 leaner to 60 clicks is still a rich setting. You should end up somewhere between 75 and 85 clicks before you are dialed. The A-Q09 metering rod that your SmartCarb has in it is probably correct for your setup, particularly when using the high compression S3 insert but we can continue our discussion on trying the step leaner A-Q11 as well. First thing to do is to set the A-Q09 to the best clicker position for idle quality and off-idle throttle response (under load). From there we can assess correct metering rod selection.
Thanks for the video, I used it to do the install on my 21 SE 300
You're welcome, let us know how it runs!
Just finished installing the smartcarb last night. Couldn't have been easier thanks to this video. Can't wait to get the bike out now!!
Awesome! Put a little time on it to let it settle in and then you're good to make your final adjustments. The Factory1 Sherco racers are ending up in the mid 90s on clicker counts, so you'll likely go a few clicks leaner before you're dialed. Keep the fuel turned off while not riding. Good luck and keep us posted!
That’s pretty awesome. I live 4 minutes from you guys just on the other side of 350. I just bought a new 2020 beta 300rr. Looking forward to putting some hours on the beta and the maybe upgrade to the SC2. Also have a 18 fc450 and a 19 klx140l. I wonder if your 25, or 28 would work on the klx140l. That carb is horrible. I would love to get something better in it. Cheers.
Small world! Well when you’re ready to get your Beta equipped let us know and we’ll pre-tune a 36mm SC2 for you for pick up. We’re also close to having a kit ready for the KLX140, in fact that should be ready in the next couple weeks. Give us a call and we’ll talk!
That's also something that I'll do when I have the new piston/rings put on my 300xc. I need to put new reeds in. Preferably V-Force 4 reeds.
I'm wanting to get a Technology Elevated Smart Carb 2 for my 2011 KTM-300xc but it is also is going to need the top end rebuilt. The Keihin 36mm. carb on my 300 is a great carb but I do like how the SC2 carb can be jetted on the fly so to speak plus the fact that it's self contained carb makes it nice also. The $700 price isn't too bad so that won't keep me from buying one, the biggest issue is putting the throttle cable on properly.
We're happy to get your 2011 KTM 300 XC SmartCarb equipped. Yes you can tune it trail-side in seconds and without tools and once dialed in, you do not need to make further adjustments for elevation/temperature changes. The SC2 model accepts your stock throttle cable no problem. All you have to do is adjust the slack to your liking. The SC2 works great with any reeds also, stock V-Force or Boyesen. Let us know if you have any further questions!
Where are those tuning videos?
All that work just to take the carb off?
We may be a little bit biased, being in the business of stock carb replacement and all... but the process is actually quite simple. The effort is well worth the benefits of a perfectly tuned bike regardless of elevation/temp changes (set and forget), more power delivered more linearly, greater fuel economy, and zero fuel spillage.
Hi, do you make or can you make carburators for Yamaha 350 YPVS ? Thanks
What year is it I think they make it
great video guys, very detailed. I bet that bike performs great in the tight stuff with that 36mm. One of these days I'll get one of your carbs:)
Thanks Vince! This bike is headed down to Hawaii where we're sure the crisp, clean tractability will be appreciated :)
Why is the fuel nipple not a 90 degree fitting?
No specific reason other than perhaps cost and part availability. We find our fuel fitting and fuel line routing to be just fine in nearly all application that we equip. We are able to put the fitting into either side of the carburetor if required.
SC2 is asignificant investment. is it possible to transfer/adapt it to another bike/brand/model? and/or what would be the procedure? Lets sey from a Sherco to a KTM?
Thank you for asking Can. Yes the SC2 is a substantial investment and yes you are able to transfer it from bike to bike easily. Many of our customers do that. Provided the size of SC2 you order is correct for the new bike you're transferring it to, we can provide you new baseline settings specific to that new bike and advise you on any fitment or tuning related questions you may have. SC2s also accept all modern 2-stroke stock throttle cables. To your example: for most Shercos and KTMs we recommend the 36mm size SC2 with no TPS. We know that the Sherco typically needs an A-Q09 metering rod while most stock KTMs require the A-Q11. Upon transferring you can call or email us letting us know the specifics of your new bike (engine mods, riding style, fuel selection) and we will give you new settings or sell you a new metering rod if necessary, and per our exchange program you may return the first metering rod to us for a full refund. Changing the rod is easy and only requires two common tools: 3mm allen wrench and snap-ring pliers. If you move to a Beta or YZ250 or a different bike that requires TPS, all SC2s ship TPS-compatible. You can contact us for the correct TPS and it bolts onto the outside of the carb and plugs right into the stock connector. These carbs are very adaptable and we have made them as future-proof as possible.
