Bus and train enthusiast from Buckinghamshire now in Oxfordshire. I mostly film old buses with thrash and kickdown likely to be withdrawn soon
ARCHIVE | First West of England Volvo B7TL/Wright Eclipse 1, 37003 (WX55 VHM) | Route Unknown
October 2019. Exact date unknown, as I’ve lost haulage logs for anything pre 2020 - possibly 30th? 31st?
Some old footage I just happened to discover recently on one of my SD cards. There were no other discoveries. I did however think this one might be worth uploading even if it doesn’t sound that special, considering First’s oldest buses in Bristol are now B9TLs. I only know it’s 37003 because it sounds like a B7TL and has yellow doors, at the time it was the only double decker to receive such a livery until new Gas Scanias arrived in 2020
It’s hard to tell which route exactly it is as it was filmed in the dark and I don’t know the area that well. I do at least know it’s a South Glos Lynx route because we can see road signs pointing out Westleigh and Pucklechurch, which used to be on Y5 (now withdrawn, replaced by Stagecoach 525). Maybe it’s that? Who knows, maybe a knowledge local will ID it for me! I’ll edit if so

26/7/2024 Filmed onboard 3015 (BJ12 DHX) What you see here is now no longer possible: a front view onboard an Arriva bus in Berkshire and Oxfordshire (almost entirely in Berkshire). What a way for them to go out… This video is also a bit experimental because it’s the first time I’ve done a windscreen view with a tripo...

I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes back there since Stevenage apparently has a vehicle shortage Here we get to see how ZF Euro 4 E300s like this can handle the hills. As someone who grew up in Wycombe, I’m impressed. Like the B7s, I’m amazed this wasn’t ruined and could climb the hills decently as well as retain i...

@@ChilternTransportProductions interior and livery
And next stop announcements
The answer to all of those, I have no idea I’m afraid. That’s before the question of another possible livery change with Stagecoach
I believe this is power mode set up on the gearbox rather than any throttle trickery. Throttle trickery is a lot more violent and jerky whereas this is smooth. Source: literally been there and done that. However I could be wrong so open to any corrections from the owner if they're watching this
Pumping the throttle isnt jerky....
@@TheTransportTH-camr you a bus driver are you?
@@TheTransportTH-camr right listen yeah, I’ve literally DRIVEN multiple buses from the same batch. There are countless photos on Flickr and even a video on TH-cam that show me driving these. I know how these buses behave. Throttle pumping is rapidly applying the throttle and then lifting off in order to trick the gearbox into holding its currently engaged gear longer. I really don’t know how you think that will provide any sort of smooth ride?? It throws you around like an old shoe in a washing machine. I’m not the only driver who will tell you this either - most of us would never even think of doing it in service. I suggest you look into who you’re talking to in future rather than just assuming I’m some brain dead vegetable.
@@lukegibson191 ive seen millions of buses with throttle pumping by now, its.not jerky unless you do the trick wrong. It doesnt affect the ride quality for the passenger in fact it makes the bus slower
@@TheTransportTH-camr it does make the bus slower because the gears aren’t being used as optimally as they could be. But it absolutely does affect passenger ride quality. I could also link to a few videos where you can see passengers being thrown around because of it. Just curious and I am genuinely asking how do you think the throttle trick is performed because I was taught how to do it by someone who drove more or less hundreds of these, he’d know
Fastest ride i had on a bus was the Skegness to Chapel st leonards down back roads , scared me to death
Best thing st the entire event.

The KV02s are the best batch of Newport Tridents, all the most musical Personal highlights include: 426 428 440 KN52s are fun but all the same If you have the option dont try 427 very quiet on kickdown, its the most boring but Trident is Trident!
Still sounds superb and still a B7 so can't complain! i love the way these scream in 6th gear and then drop back into 5th on the hills 👌🏻
True, considering it became a hoover when it transferred to Taunton 🥲 No idea how it’s doing these days, other than it was still surviving down in Cornwall not too long ago
Good kock and thrash tbh
There wasn’t any real thrash as the 10 didn’t allow for it at the Kingsdown end but the kickdown was fairly nice though! If you want some thrash to go with kickdown too, see 18501 on the 7 th-cam.com/video/5tuBr_9ZuaU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LNa8kPCVw2wePPvg Also, the typo 😭

It’s very nice! This batch make for a great kip as well, they’re that comfy!
I havent been on these buses fir years
I was lucky to get on one at all last year, very hard to come by these days 🥲
Is that the sapphire liveru
Yes it is
Cant beat the alx400s
No you can’t! Good bit of sturdy Scottish kit that, designed to deal with the harsher environments up north! My favourite for a reason
Sounds like the London enviros
Well they do use the same engine and gearbox so…
I love london buses
These days I prefer Birmingham buses because they still have Tridents and B7TLs for now, it’s the place with the largest concentration of them! I’d say if you can get there, make the most of them whilst you can as they’re gradually being replaced by new electric buses
See them all the time
Well you would do if you’re in Kent, especially around Chatham. Which I’m guessing is where you’re based, according to your other comments?
If you go somewhere where there is buses have a trip down at chatham bus station
The first half doesn’t make sense, second half is clearly a recommendation to visit Chatham. Which is funny as I was there a week ago! I filmed 6401 on 700
What is going on there then
What do you mean?
I know all bus fleets
Do you really? I somehow doubt that, there’s too much to know
Have you been on a stagecoach bus before

We had two ex grey green one was f138phm at fowlers travel Holbeach drove Lincolnshire. Still had the route 24 stops stickers on each side of saloons.

We have the exact same batch i think from Newport Bus- 420-425 and trust me they are not as good as this, BBPG kept this in excellent condition! I recently made a recording of 422 (LN51 KXV) driver redlined it practically entire thing and this was quicker! Cracking video :)
Yes you most certainly do, I definitely know about the LN51s there and I require them for haulage. Otherwise I’d just focus more on KU02s as I only got 2 KN52s in January 2023 Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
@@ChilternTransportProductions 428 (KV02 URL) has insanely loud axles for the KV02s, better than 426 The presidents are also good- any 420-440 is good haha and the roads are much better for.kickdown than cardiff

Is your plan for a Cardiff Citaro bash still up the books, we have another citaro recently got its kick enabled Hopefully you do better than last time and obtain a flooring ^_^
Yes it is, a friend of mine is moving there in September. In terms of routes its not the best out there. 96 Cardiff-Barry is allocated Citaros, hills going out to Barry and lots of 30/40mph roads when you get to the outskirts of town. 30 Cardiff-Newport if your lucky to get a Citaro towards Cardiff provides open 50mph roads Hills: 57/58 City Centre-Pontprennau, best hills in the network but 20mph, there are fast drivers that havent got much regard uphill and will floor it. 8 of our Citaros are branded for it but the route does get busy 10 of our Citaros are allocated on the 9, a bad route for kickdown but your best bet is the short 30mph section after Grangetown to the south side, 9 is my local so i enjoy the 0530s haha. DO NOT go north of town on the 9 unless the driver is already flooring it. In terms of crowds the 30mph section is the quietest bit. If you are looking for newer engined C2 kickdown (and 2 older engine variants) they operate on the C1 route which can be the "cowboy" take on Cardiff Bus and the drivers..... see my video of MB175 for a lovely canning on 20mph roads. Best bet for kickdown is the hilly section after Albany Road all the way up to Pontprennau, same for the 57/58. What i will say that it wont be easy but its worthwhile. None of our E200s got kickdown, only reason Citaros have them is because they were causing issues with them off. 307 is a E400 MMC with a uprated Topodyn setting The ex RATP omnicities are INSANELY good for kickdown, get them on a decent road and unless you get a really slow driver you can guarantee some kickdowns- this is becaise they are so restricted and slow on the first gear prompting drivers to kickdown. Irizars dont kickdown despite what my video of 782 says- no clue how that was done, i seen a fencer accideantly redline in the first gear There is one @hw8373 who goes out of his way to redline and pump throttles on buses, hope you catch him because thats an instant video. Hes often on Citaros as well and you may hear him redlning around town- mainly to say there ARE drivers that floor buses in cardiff

I’ve had 1750 quite a lot on rail replacement lol.
How often did you get it with Reubyn driving though? Sometimes when it’s on loan to other operators, their own company men drive instead and so it’s not quite so quick
@@ChilternTransportProductions Really Good, I’ve had it with Reubyn 2 times.
This is great! If u want to know better though, u should've experienced BX56 XCR being maxed out down the backroads around Aylesbury. That one was also preserved and helped out for rail 😎
I’ve just asked a well known Brummie veg and he says it’s the same ledfoot that owns both 1750 and 1772. Do bear in mind though that when they go on loan to operators like JK Travel or City Transport, it might not necessarily be the owner driving, therefore unlikely to be floored with proper simulated/pump throttle kickdown
@ChilternTransportProductions Yeah, it was not the owner driving 1772, but the guy floored it and I was surprised because I knew these don't have kickdown. Was a different story though when I had Opatre Excel T935 EAN between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Bicster. Owner was driving and he just thrashed it down the main road, no kickdown unfortunately
Its ZF gearbox
As in it’s the ZF making those noises?
Shame they left nxwm these are the best batch of e400s that nxwm had but atleast we still have the 57 and 07 plates but I'm worried they might leave too when more of these boring BYDs enter service. Nxwm is going to be boring as fuck in the future😡. Topodyn E40Ds will be our only hope😔. Other than that I'm probally going to start losing interest in buses at nx after 10 years and have to travel to find interesting buses.

they’ve certainly worked they’re magic with this one, used to hoover so loudly when it was with sullivan you could hear it from 2-3 miles away! - nice video
Thanks! Sounds about right for a Sullivans B7TL
