Nice job bringing her back in! Thankfully mine's never been quite that scary on approach. She does drop a wing but weirdly you can fly her out of it so it's a really weird stall. If I were to build another one I'd add flaps.

The top wing tended to fall off after a couple of landings. It didn't fly that badly with just the lower wing.

Had one growing up. We could never get it to fly 😢. The engine ran ok, but the big props wouldn't spin up. Brand new out of the box.... always had that kind of luck my whole life 🫤

Ah fond memories of my older brothers flying these. Funny you could go the the local hobby shop and buy one for about$25 to 30 bucks 20 to 40 year’s ago now. They sell for over 250 bucks on eBay and one that is in excellent condition in the box close to 400 bucks

I SO remember this model from the early 1960s when I was a control line flyer. Those .049 engines and planes such as the Baby Ringmaster and Baby Flight streak led me to a 29 year career as a pilot for United Airlines.

I have the Cox Comanche version of this helicopter and half the time it flies it sputters to about maybe 100 feet up and conks out and autorotates back down. Worked great, but since it's an "Estes Cox" product, it wasn't built nearly as well as the original shown in the video. The fuselage finally split in two. I found one on eBay with a siezed engine, but a good fuselage, and I put my working motor and gear back on. Retired it and now it hangs in my hobby room. But this video gave me an idea, I wonder if a small electric motor can be added in the tail section to counteract some of the engine torque and maybe make it fly smoother? They make drone motors that weigh only a few grams and since my chopper has the .049 motor, might be able to balance it and counter at least some of the torque.

I prefer the sound of a 2 blade but 3 blade is still ok

Those old spring starters were good at turning 2 blade props into 1 blade props.

Blade tips needs to be higher, like dihedral on a plane... Just bend the metal roots a tad all the same angle.
