Be careful... you could get done for a salt and battery.

The salt water will short out battery, heating it and MAYBE giving a SHORT amount of extra life. Wiping the terminals that have been in water, might clean them a bit. The main reason you won't have to buy batteries again is that salt water contamiation will corrode the clock so it's usless.

There's no need to waste the coins. The copper wire is just a home-made needle threader, and the purpose of the coins is to make the wire easier to see and to find. Most people keep old buttons around, and two of them would do the job.
