Why doesn’t rabies affect birds, and why is the vaccine only temporarily affective

Its so interesting as much as they are scary like, technically this is THE ultimate evolution, it can creat more of itself while being hard to kill Yet its deadly to everything that isnt itself

But if we can isolate and multiply archea and their viruses, we could introduce virulence factors to the archea phages/viruses and disprove (or prove) the hypothesis. Right? Is it actually that hard to do?

Would evolution be able to select against prions, even if they were only negative? If prion diseases are quite rare and progress quite slowly, presumably most instances would kill the organism after they had already reproduced?

You touched on it briefly when you mentioned that Archaea have different nutritional requirements. One thing to remember is that the way a lot of bacterial and fungal infections are identified is through culturing patient samples and identifying the predominant growth, mainly through the use of agar plates. These plates tend to be specialized towards a small subsection of the human microbiome and even some known pathogens won't grow without additional nutritional supplementation. It's possible that Archaean infections do occur, but may fail to appear by conventional identification methods. Coupled with the lack of research makes even identifying an Archaean infection significantly more difficult. Another factor could even involve masking by bacterial growth which could be attributed as the cause of infection instead of Archaea. For obvious ethical reasons, it's not like research teams can purposely attempt to infect people with Archaea to see if they cause infection. In the end the reason we're not finding Archaean pathogens is possibly because we're not looking for them.

(Playing along with chat even tho I didn’t show up to the stream) a protein could be intrinsically disordered so it could fit into a lot of other proteins instead of rigidly being able to fit into only few? Or maybe it needs to snake its way into a hard to reach place? Or maybe how it dissipates heat is better with more degrees of freedom? Or maybe so it is harder to catch by protein degraders/other proteins? Or maybe so it’s more resistant to having its function blocked by small molecules?

    • @ryancress5974

U could make them fuse by exposing the hydrophobic side middle of both of them? U could have a bridge that’s a positive protein to get them to stick together? U could make the whole world around where the membranes are negatively charged so the net force is 0? U could use a harpoon and then manually real all the way in until they’re fused? U could use a laser to make the electrons on the membrane escape their atoms and become free, nutralizing the membrane (maybe)? U could get rid of the water between them (maybe???)? I feel like the most likely thing is to expose the hydrophobic ends (and then they’ll want to be together) or just make 2 pores and harpoon and real them in together 50:54

I got to study my very own genes beside them, and witness some of the most experimental treatments in oncological in development.

Food science is so sketchy. There are so few things accounted for you would not accept those kinds of results in any other field its kind of laughable. One clear example would be the countless boogie fat=bad studies from the 70s to the 2000s. Personally, I would not base my diet on any of these studies, specially if they are so case-specific like the effects of kombucha.

Wait, cooking doesn't kill prions?, this is bad dude, wait, if prions can make other proteines to fold the wrong way, couldn't another protein make prions fold the right way?, I guess it would be pretty hard to engineer something like that, but if the situation gets bad enough, that maybe a way to fix them.

Technically, rabies is not 100% lethal, even after sympthoms appear. We have a "stunning" 20-40 cases known, when it was survived, mostly from the last say 20 years. Unfortunatelly, Wikipedia says that ~59000 people die PER YEAR, so "some" luck is needed... Moreover, studies showed that there are some unvaccinated individuals with rabies antibodies, i.e. they were infected, but the immune system won without sympthoms. Still, rather don't play with animals having rabies, it's unhealthy... :)
