The Des Moines Noise Ordinance Is Nonsense
มุมมอง 1403 หลายเดือนก่อน
After the news about Wooly's I wondered: how much sound, exactly, does it take to violate the noise ordinance? So I investigated using proper metering. TL;DR: The ambient noise of the East Village in and of itself is loud enough to violate the noise ordinance. That means conceivably any additional audible noise would count as a violation if someone were to measure it. Wooly's is getting hosed c...

I got a keyboard for Christmas so I've been practicing the piano for about a month now. I've learned some really rudimentary stuff, but it's enough that with some sound design magic, I can now play one of my favorite songs.

Very nice!
I loves me some solid empirical evidence. I'll bet the decibel level decision was the result of a very cursory bing search.
If they spent 20k on acoustic sound proofing and they're still getting bothered I'd probably take the sound proofing company to court to get my money back.
Background music? 😐
@@mind-brainstudio927 yeah why not? It’s fun.
WOW Compared to this a Quantum 2626 latency is pretty fast! Probably along the lines of the RME. I was looking for another Interface and PreSonus dropped Thunderbolt on their new HD8 Quantum, but their drivers are not as fast as the older model. That sucks! Guess I'll stick with this for now. I have a real Amp running into an IR loader with some of the best IRs I could find. However, the latency can become an issue. I started learning how to run at 96 Khz but we'll see I guess I do have a really good tone man. And the feel is spot on! I have a nice cabinet but the SM 57 needs at least some volume to get a good tone from the real cabinet so Irs it izzzzz!
I bought an RME Fire Face 800 in 2006. It's still my daily driver.
Pretty cool! Is there a way to control the Dittox4 via CC messages launched by MIDI clips in Ableton Live? 🤔
@@PapayaPositive yep. I’ve gone the dummy clip route as well. Takes a little more prep work but definitely doable.
thanks. Still trying to get my head around this practically speaking. It's so that my guitar loop can sync to a drum pattern in the DAW? I think i need to see someone demo'ing its use
Yep! Check out some of my ambient project videos on my channel for some examples of practical applications!
Wow! Taking the studio symmetry to the next level!😮
This is goooood impressive
Hello! I bought this card, but I noticed if I shake it a little, or turn my feet on my head, so that the sound sounds there, as if the shaker is not loud! This is fine? what could it be?
No idea on that one! I’d reach out to RME support
What is the max number of inputs you can run at the same time? I've read the blurb and it says "40 channel", but can you record to 40 channels at the same time? If not how many?
Sure if you’re using every digital and analog input. You’ll need ADAT, AES, and SPDIF preamps to fill all those.
@@KeenanCrow thanks for the reply.
Excellent cover!
This is incredible. How did you program the synth parts? It sounds just like the recording.
Instrument rack in Ableton split between two sides. Bass side is Serum with a couple oscillators and a ton of distortion. Treble side is Arturia’s Stage 73 with a bit of chorus, delay, and reverb.
Super cool.....you really nailed the vocals and drums. I always loved The Postal Service too 🎶
In my experience just sell the bass
The only real solution to a diving bass is changing the tuners to lightweight ones. If your bass already has this kind of tuners... you're fucked. A neck diving bass is a badly designed bass. As simple as that.
Excellent review. Much appreciate it. Would love your opinion. I own an Apollo X8 and now going through the “bug’ of even considering swapping out my X8 for the RME reviewed here. Would appreciate any opinions and advice.
Not nearly as many preamps on the RME and obviously no DSP or Unison preamps. I think they’re two very different units for very different use cases. And as a LUNA user myself I’d call it a toss up at best.
appreciate you @@KeenanCrow
If you want ultra low latency, the most stable drivers, and longevity, go with RME.
Awesome video, really helpful (and really nice production quality on the vid!!)
question: i want to connect the apollo x6 to the ufx ii and use the ad/da of the ufx ii so i can record with the unison plugin with the ad/da of the rme is it possible to do this?

hi i have a rmx ucx2 on windows 11 i have a problem if i try to vary the buffer size the sound in my daw studio one 5 deteriorates if i try to fiddle with the windows sound settings it resolves but if i turn off the pc and turn on the problem come back .. .i can't figure out if the problem is with studio one with the card or with windows...i'm going crazy.....can you help me thanks.
Sorry I run Mac, not super helpful on the Windows side. I would reach out to RME support and see what they have to say.
I need to sync my drum machine to my looper, what do I need to do!? I apologize beforehand if this question is out of line. If not please, if you know how to do it!? 🙏🏻🤙🏼😊
Depends on the drum machine and the looper! Do they have MIDI options? If so the best way is gonna be to plug the MIDI out on the drum machine to the MIDI in on the looper, set them to the same channel, and enable clock sync
I discovered that one can buy SCUBA weight pouches! Be sure to read reviews before buying one as some are too loose.
Great video!! Thanks you such much for posting this! such a simple solution! Your a genius! I think you should make it as a kit and sell it for $100 LOL! The great thing about this is it will apply to other guitars as well.
what should be the number in the buffer? 512 ? 256?
Does the Rme sound card have a preamp?
Two mic preamps. No phono preamp.
@@KeenanCrow Please explain the two mic preamps🥰🙏
@@KeenanCrow Is there no preamp like midas preamp in rme card?
@@raviakber Midas is a specific kind of mic preamp. There are two mic preamps in the units, but they are more transparent sounding than Midas preamps are.
@@KeenanCrow Can you share two mic preamps? Please 🙏
A friend shared this with me and I keep coming back to listen again. Stunning.💜

Hi. Can you help please? I bought ucx 2 and have some artefacts with reverb work. Can`t compare with another devices because they out of stock. It sounds like noise added to reverb tail with some kind of flanged whistle I have example of recording and screenshoot with settings on google drive by the link : drive.google.com/drive/folders/19VgVG--9yL_2iJksqpDmmW75x8MJbc5z?usp=share_link May you check your device for such artefacts, please?
What is the CPU of the system?
thanks
They are good are playing music
Great info!!
Two questions. 1. Can I record 30 microphones with ufx II somehow? Or only 20 with 4 built in preamps plus 16 via two adat? 2. What is the best preamp extension for ufx II from rme now? Two octamics xtc or octamic II? I understand that 12 mic will „leave” 4 unused channels from adats. Thanks
Not super familiar with the UFX line but generally any ADAT in will give you 8 channels at 44.1/48. If you need 88.2/96 you’re down to 4 channels per ADAT in. Each doubling halves your available channels because ADAT is natively a 48k standard so upsampling happens via SMUX. The UCX adds 4 channels via SPDIF and AES which are both indifferent to sample rate. UFX only has the AES ports (you can run them as SPDIF but there are no dedicated coax connections to add channels) so that’s two more channels at whatever sample rate you want. So at 44.1/48 you get the 4 mic pres, the 16 ADAT lines, and the two AES/SPDIF lines for a total of 22 possible mic pres. You can also of course add stand alone mic pres to any of the line inputs as well.
@@KeenanCrow thank You.
Would be lightweight tuners and a hi mass bridge a solution? Also, maybe not for a video, but trying it out before stringing it up seems a good idea to me..
Yes trying it before stringing it is DEFINITELY the way to go. But I knew my next step didn’t require a restring. And yes, lightweight tuners would certainly be an option. The tuners on that thing are massive.
@oleksandrnovakov4295 @keenancrow did you swap tuners on your Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar short scale? If yes, please let us know what tuners! What is a factory fit direct replacement? Hipshot HB6C? Gotoh GBR640?
Depending on workload and computer performance you may be able to reduce buffer size/latency down to about to 32 samples/ 2-3ms. Raise it only when audio starts to crackle and break up. If you are using a lot of VSTs/CPU you may wanna keep it high. If you are using external gear you can keep the latency lower.
How do you make you abelton clips synce to a certain amount of bars? I have the looper working but my clips aren't as tight as they should be from my midi synth
Couple different options. If you have a Push or a Launchpad Pro there is an easy to use “fixed length” option for whenever you hit the record button. That’s what I tend to use. Second option is to use the looper device within Ableton. It allows you to specify a fixed number of bars once triggered, and then to assign a follow action (stop, play, overdub) afterward. If you don’t have one of those devices and want to record straight to clips rather than using the looper I’d recommend installing ClyphX (I mean I’d recommend installing it period, it is an extremely useful script). Once you get it installed and working, the command you’re looking for is “SRECFIX”. So for instance if I wanted a 4 bar recording I’d use the clip code “SRECFIX4”. Then when you launch that clip it will record for a fixed 4 bars.
@Keenan Crow thank you! I figured since push had been out that abelton would have had the same feature. I will try to software first. I would like the push but don't feel like dropping so much for one yet
@@zhoustonh1 yeah totally fair. Master the tools you already have before getting new stuff! ClyphX is free so that’s worth checking out regardless I will say, though, I have an old Push 1. That is plenty good enough for me 99% of the time, and it’s about half the cost of a Push 2.
@Keenan Crow also the abletondrummer has a fixed clip length that works super easy.
great video thank u
I have had the rme ufc forever .. just recapped it .. still works great ..total mix is the best
Haven’t even scratched the surface on TotalMix yet. It’s way more flexible than Focusrite’s Mix Control. Tracking drums with it for the first time today so I just set up a new workspace in TotalMix. Mind blown.
I wonder if the ableton latency reporting is truly accurate?
Tested for driver error compensation on both setups and got 0 so I believe it to be accurate
Hi thanks for your video! I assume your daw is master clock in this video and lopper the slave. What about the looper is the master, and set the bpm to the daw when the loop is done. Is that possible? I know Ableton looper plugin does that.
Yeah if you have a looper that sends a clock signal you could do that, but I’m unaware of any loopers that do so. Eventide H9 might.
There’s yet another way to solve the problem, which is have the FX after the Looper.
Yes, but then you lose the ability to print effects into the loop.
@@KeenanCrow Actually no, the point of putting the FX after the Looper is to not have to deal with the START/STOP part of the Loop. There’s nothing stopping anyone from recording the FX to a Loop.
@@Folkstone57 if your looper is before your effects, you aren’t including the effects in the loop. As soon as the effects change, the entire tonality of the loop changes as well. You’re recording the raw guitar and looping into the chain. That means no printing effects into the loop.
@@KeenanCrow You can put your FX wherever you want your FX to be, that is the point. I have FX coming from my guitar chain & I have FX after my Looper. This isn’t rocket science. My sound tech has FX at the mixer.
@@Folkstone57 the point is that if the recording device (in this case the looper) is *before* the effects chain, then the effects aren’t being recorded
