My first time coming across this art form….and first thought was “amazing!”…. second thought was “what kind of paint do they use so that the colors don’t bleed into the actual pages of text?”
@@hazeleyedsoul3282 thanks so much! All my books, and the typical way others would do this too, are painted with watercolor. The trick to having it not bleed into the page is making sure that it is tightly clamped/pressed during the painting process and to not use too much water on your brush. I usually dab off my brush on a piece of scrap or a clothe before putting it onto the book to make sure the excess water is out.
The Aragon looked more like Boromir at first glance
This will last 4ever keep doing your pasion❤❤❤😮
Thank you 😊
We bought THAT copy for my son. Jut and EXCELLANT if not the BEST print.. AMAZING artwork
Thank you 😊
Any recommendations on cheap boots to to use for the shoe part?
I used old boots I already had on hand, but if you don’t have that I would suggest looking at second hand and thrift stores. You want something that comes up over the ankle, mine were lace up boots that I just cut the lacing off and that worked well.
This is brilliant! I only have one question: isn't it possible that the acrylics expose the paper to mould? My books all seem to have a problem with humility...
I use watercolours when painting my books and haven’t had any mould issues. In reality you aren’t really using much water on the actual pages themselves and I also make sure everything is fully dry before I spray a sealant. But because the book is clamped tight the water when painting doesn’t travel into the page and stays more on the edges
@@mcieart Thank you! 🥰
Absolutely nothing short of perfection, you're amazing, can I please ask how long you let it dry before separating the pages? I've been dreaming about dying the edge of my book black and intend to use gouache paint, congratulations seriously, such talent. ❤
Thank you so much! I usually wait overnight after painting, spray a sealant, and then wait another day to take it out and separate the pages. Hope that helps 😊
Isn't watercolor gonna fade after a long time?
I use professional grade watercolors and a sealant so as long as it is handled with care and kept out of direct sunlight it should last for a very long time. There are some pretty old books, couple hundred years, that have fore edge paintings still.
Is that Paul and chani? And that painting is absolutely amazing
It is, and thank you!
Wow 🤩 Bravo 👏
u only paint the books with watercolors?
Yes, I only use watercolors for my books
thats incredible 😊
Thanks 😊
Simplesmente magnífico.
Precioso, pones luego algo para proteger la acuarela?
Hi, yes I spray a protective sealant on when I finish to help protect the watercolor
👏👏
Incredible ❤underrated I’m subbing xx!!
Thank you so much!! 😊
I've watched some of this paintings on the books and I wonder... watercolors (or perhaps also gouache?) are the only option, right? Because acrylic paint will "glue" the pages? 🤔
Yes I would suggest only using watercolour or gouache for these paintings. I’ve personally only used watercolour but I know others who prefer gouache
@@mcieart Thank you for answer. Can I also ask how using watercolors works with how the painting stay in shape? I mean does it maybe smudge over time or something due to humidity of the air or something? 😅
This is actually a pretty old art form, it used to be reserved for really special books and you’ll see it on things like old bibles so as long as it’s taken care of it can really last. Because watercolour paint goes into the paper, where I would say acrylic more sits on top, it’s not like there’s really a separate layer on top of the paper to brush away. Of course if you handled it roughly or damaged the paper then it would damage the painting as well. I just uploaded a new Foreedge painting and you can see when I can the pages that I’m rubbing it with my fingers but it still looks the same 😊
Wow. Incredible. 😍 is this watercolour? & did you spray something on it when you are finish?
Hi anyone who is coming from a stitched video looking for Maisie Matilda I'm not her! She has tiktok and instagram if you want to find her, or feel free to follow me for more of my own art haha.
Can you do a Sahra J Mass book i LOVE her books form what i can tell i think you would like them to
i really like your paintings on book edges, it makes the books look even more beautiful, only if more books had this. especially your paintings on the harrypotter and lotr books made them 10 times more beautiful. thank you for your work. watching your videos brought me joy. amazing work, keep going and u will blow up for sure. i have been watching yt for 5 years+ now but never came across work like this on books. just epic. by the way i found your channel through youtuber's recommendation. his name was .......sales official something. i will just confirm wait...
Beautiful!
Can you paint an angel please?❤
Good God! You are so underrated! How are you not blowing up? I found you through another TH-camr. Your art is stunning
Awww thank you so much that means a lot 😊
Do you happen to remember who it was?
@@mcieart I can't think of his name but he reacts to a lot of restock videos. He's the guy that always wants it filled to the brim. He says brimarvelous. He really likes your stuff. I gotta go find him & when I do I'll come back & tell you. I just can't for the life of me think of what it is.
@@mcieartRichard Sales Official is who it was...took me a min to find him but I promised I'd come back & tell you. I like his videos...I find a lot of great TH-camrs thru him. He really loved the video of yours he reacted to.
@@stephanieperri5012 thanks very much! I can't find the video you mention but either way glad you liked it enough to find my page and hopefully you'll like the new stuff I have coming soon
Awesome work. Publishing companies should learn from this.
I feel like for the buckles/straps maybe a good idea would be using a belt that's cut super short and hot gluing/contact cement to seal it in place?
I think that could definitely work if done correctly! And would be a much easier process 😂
Hello, exact name of dremel? & wha the exact bit. You used on it? Also how did you do the top part of the shoe where the filigree pops up & what exact foam did u use? A material list would be nice BECASUE I keep on having to skim through the videos & the parts are fast:( TY!!
Also please please provide some kind of pattern for the filigree flower print. I spent like 4 hours trying to draw the pattern & it’s terrible 😭I cannot draw :(
Thank you! I will follow up! I never worked w craft/ Eva foam. What thickness would you recc? I don’t want something too thin cause I don’t want the dremel to cut through. Thank you so much for your time & I’ll update you!!
I have this version of LOTR. I can’t believe the realism of the artwork from the movie and book fit together so well. 😮❤😊
Beautiful.
I want to try this too. Can someone help me find that book holder?
Now I just want to do something like that with all my books🤪
That's amazing Top Notch
What brushes do you use :)
Do you let your paint dry before separating the pages? You have such talent this is amazing work ❤
So beautiful🥰 i admire their love story
I just started to paint with watercolors and now my goal is this ♡ but I'm still not confident enought to to this to my book babies 😂
Definitely give it a try! If you don’t want to risk it on your nicer books then you can definitely try it on some books from the thrift store or a library sale. You don’t even have to paint something specifically about the book if you haven’t read it or don’t want to when practicing. Hope you have fun!
Is this the real channel of maisie matilda I want to subscribe her original true channel not someone re-upload video of her art
@@1yuyutsu Hi I'm not Maisie but this is my own art. I don't think she has a youtube account only tiktok and instagram. I'm a separate artist who also does foreedge paintings.
@@mcieart okay i subscribe you I can't differentiates your art and her
You have to claim it!!
These are so beautiful, I wish I could paint like you
Thank you so much 😀
You dont mean it frodo you cant leave
Your work is incredible. Thank you for showing how it's done. What song is this?? i can almost hear the words in my head.
❤
Amazing. I have to get one for my Tolkien collection😍
Are you using watercolor??
Hi yes they’re all done with watercolors
Truly incredible work you have done. Do you sell these copies?
Where did you get the boots from that you attached to the foam? Im trying to find a sturdy pair
My boots where actually just an old pair I already had on hand, can’t remember where they were from but likely Payless (which doesn’t exist anymore I think), but you can probably get something similar at TJMaxx or a thrift store without spending too much. Best of luck!
@@mcieartplease respond to my comment! :( need to know asap about what dremel & tip
Que wenas búen libró y que guaton
What did you use to get the acrylic paint to stay on?
All the paint is watercolor, then I just spray a light sealant at the end but there’s been no issue with paint staying on
where did you get the clamps from?
My dad was kind enough to help me make the press for the book, but you can also easily use two clamps from a hardware store with a piece of wood or something hard to hold everything in place
You are so amazingly talented! I've just gone down a huge rabbit hole reading about the history of fore-edge painting after seeing one of your posts so thank you l for intriducing me to this world! I've seen fore-edge painting on books before but never knew it had a name or that it was becoming a forgotten craft. I hope this isnt a stupid question but does the watercolor paint ever leak through onto the pages? When you flicked through the book at the end it looked so neat - like it was all contained to the outter edges. I'm just wondering if there's a technique to keeping the paint wet enough to work with and the pages dry enough to work on? Thank you for sharing your craft with the world 💕
That's not a stupid question! It is a legit one. I'm not sure about a special technique, but if you watch Martin Frost's video he says to use minimal water while painting, and he sort of wipes off excess water right before putting brush to book. And if you want more colour saturation or just to add more detail, you let each layer dry before adding more so you don't add too much water in the process. If there's too much water it can warp the pages and/or start removing the pigment already on the book.
Hi, as Natalie said not a stupid question at all and she’s totally right in what Martin Frost says. As long as you don’t use too much water and clamp the pages tightly, not releasing them until after all the paint is dry, I haven’t had really any issue.
How long do you let them dry before you remove the clamps?🙈
@@kiarap1363I usually wait a few hours or overnight if I can
