    I've been overweight/obese/morbidly obese for a large proportion of my adult life (I'm 52). I have never experienced the "fatphobia" and bullying, poor medical care FAs seem convinced are the daily experience of ALL fat people. I have lost 70+lbs in the past year and am still losing. Life is so much better without the extra weight but not because I'm treated better by other people. I feel immeasurably better because I'm treating myself the way I should have for the past 35 years. They're desperate to be victims, desperate to be oppressed. It's trauma for clout.

    I’ve been fat to various degrees basically my whole life. The amount of time I have spent talking about it is minimal, especially the way this FÃ person does. Maybe it’s because I was an occupational therapist, but obesity is not at the top of the list when I think of oppression or accessibility challenges. Although they’d probably call me and the research fat phobic!

    I am on Wegovy after a stall from WLS. My provider went through the side effects with me. I also did my own research, too. I don’t have any negative symptoms or experiences on it. It has helped so much with the “food noise”. It has improved my overall mental health, tbh. I use to stress over food, calorie counting and regain after WLS. I don't understand why people try to use their blood work as a baseline for health. My brother has been a smoker for his whole adult life. Now in his 50s the blood work is starting to show signs of damage. Does that mean he was healthy in his 20s, 30s, and 40s? Smoking isn't healthy at any age and I'd argue obesity is similar.

      They use it because they usually suffer from a mental illness (ED) and have to grasp at straws to continue to delude themselves and lie to others. That way they don't have to face the consequences of their choices.

    4 years of lost weight, here, with 2 blips - one I gained back 25 that I then lost, the second my marathon training 10 lbs that I’m still trying to reverse & has fluctuated between +5 & +10 over the last few months. At no point have I ever gotten close to gaining all of the weight back, much less more, because I have totally different habits now. I’m still super active & run 2-6 hrs per week depending on my training schedule, I still eat a lot less than I used to, etc. I do think that some foods are addictive and that is an ongoing struggle for me but I’ve also been able to maintain even while eating those addictive foods that I have a hard time letting go of because I’ve learned that I don’t need a LOT of it to satisfy the craving. Like yeah, I do want a Milky Way. I can buy one and be satisfied with one, I can even buy one a day every day and be okay as long as I’m keeping the rest of my eating within my calorie range. You can struggle but still succeed as long as you have awareness around it, know you’re not the person that can have the family share size caramel m&m bag in your house and only buy the individual packages one at a time where you have to physically leave your home/work/whatever to go get more. Making it a chore will do a lot to hinder that on the addictive food thing. I don’t have BED so I can’t speak much to that, but the food addiction thing is real easy to manage if you’re cognizant of it.

    • @lisaking.goalking
      @lisaking.goalking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I will also buy things in smaller portions just because even if it's not food addiction, it's a mental barrier removed. I don't have to think about the portion size if the portion is prepackaged for me.

    • @lissa3046
      @lissa3046 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lisaking.goalking mine was a couple of things, one being having ADHD you’re more likely to have binge behaviors bc of like impulse control etc and the other being that if the addictive food was in my house that was the thing I went to first, so I might be mindful of portions for a couple days and then sit down with the bag of M&Ms to watch a movie and suddenly it’s gone because I was just sitting there eating it while my mind was somewhere else. So I just stopped buying the large bags of things whether it was chips or candy or fruit snacks so that if I absentmindedly ate an entire bag of something it was 200-450 kcals and not 1500+ type of thing. I LOVE snack food, I can eat it all day, so those things I buy on a cravings basis and the smallest available size so I won’t have the impulse to eat them all. Like oh this food gives me a dopamine hit I want (the addictive part) AND I’m more likely to binge because of my ADHD + the dopamine helps with that too, so having that readily available will set me up for failure and I should limit it in my house. I don’t have the rumination that ED has & therefore don’t have the motivation to physically leave my apartment to get more of something so it’s a useful inhibitor of the behavior.

    Your story is sort of similar to mine. I was sure I had hypothyroidism in my early twenties but was told I’d already been tested and it was normal. Then a year ago they did some bloodwork and discovered I have Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism, just as I’d long suspected! My current doctor said “I’m really surprised they never tested you”. Turns out they never actually checked all those years ago. So I went unmedicated until 36 almost 37 years old because they couldn’t be bothered to run a simple test!

      So I did a video on fat acceptance vegans eating A LOT of processed foods. They basically present themselves as healthy because they're vegan, but the reason they can't lose weight is all the oil and processed foods. A lot of vegans got mad at me over it. Even though I also propped up a vegan tiktoker who said the same thing.

    to be fair, I do think there’s a little bit of a difference between being slightly overweight and being obese, especially when I think about elderly people. a looooooot of the old people I know are on the chubby side, including my mid-70s grandmother and many of the folks at my church, but I for sure agree that someone over the maybe 200lb mark (for a tall-ish person) is unlikely to live as healthy of a life.

    • @lisaking.goalking
      @lisaking.goalking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, this is all about the perspective of obesity, although sometimes I will say overweight, I'm talking about obesity. Many of these FA people are comparing size 12s and health to like a size 26, which is just not realistic. You can be a healthy size 12 or 14 imo, based on height. But never a size 26. This is what I was trying to explain when people were picking on Nicola Coughlin in a different video. Them going after a chubby person for the way they look who has never said one word about FA is so counterproductive when you have FA people telling super Morbidly Obese people to not bother losing weight.

    Also to add: America doesn't have a weight loss problem, we have a weight maintenance problem - people lose weight all the time and gain it back because they aren't doing "health promoting behaviors" to lose the weight (they're over exercising, crash dieting, cutting out carbs completely without any medical indication this is necessary, only eating one color, only doing the cabbage diet etc etc). the people who lose the weight and keep it off are doing the behaviors that lady is talking abt in her rant!!!

    I agree with your entire sentiment, but with one minor point… US sizes are definitely inflated due to vanity sizing. Nicola is overweight/obese- her being a size medium isn’t relevant IMO- visually she’s carrying a fair amount of extra fat. I’m not a small person- 5’9” 130ish lbs 25” waist and I’m sometimes an XXS or 00 in bottoms which is absolutely insane. In vintage sizes from the 1960s I’m prolly a 6/8.

      Yeah, all I said was she wasn't plus size, which is true. She doesn't wear plus size clothing. Which is why people calling her plus size is weird. People can call her fat, I personally just said she isn't that big. And if you look at what the average big is in the US, like fat acceptance tiktok, it's much bigger. So these people trying to make her their plus size FA hero was very odd.

    if I was 120 lbs I wouldn't be overweight anymore lol high end of normal for me as a short ass. I felt great at 130 though! When I was at 200 lbs, I held most of my weight in my torso, so a lot of visceral fat. unfortunate fat distribution, but I lost very fast in my torso and overall upper body compared to other parts like my butt, thighs, or calves. I can't wait to lose more and at the very least get to 125 lbs.

    3:30 I will say though when I was keto/low carb my brain did function significantly better but I also am prone to seizures and have other issues that would be managed better with a diet like keto. I don't think its a good thing to push diets like that on people who obviously won't benefit from them because every body is different and what works for one person won't work for another when it comes to weight loss for example.

    • @lisaking.goalking
      @lisaking.goalking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, exactly. Basically my point of view of dieting is don't diet eating anything you're not okay with eating for the rest of your life. So many people relapse and regain on keto/carnivore because as soon as they stop and eat a carb, it's like the flood gates open and suddenly their body can't get enough. Obviously with medical concerns, it's completely different. For me though, I'm eating everything I will eat for the rest of my life, just less of it.

    its been a bit over 2 years and I only gained like 20 lbs from the 70ish I lost. Starting weight was over 200 lbs in 2021 as I gained a ton of weight during the pandemic. I developed bulimia around November 2022 not as a result of my actual diet (I lost the weight in a non disordered, healthy way) but because of a breakup and some other issues going on in my life. I would eat my feelings and then purge them via vomiting and later laxatives. I was eating upwards of 5000 calories a day worth of sugar because I was mostly binging on candy and sweets. In December 2022 I was at my lowest. most days I wouldn't even eat a normal meal just binge on candy and purge later on sometimes at least twice a day if not more. I gained up to 140 from being 130 prior. New Years my goal was to recover and I was going strong until I relapsed sometime late march/early April of 2023. I was trying not to purge as much but I ended up gaining 10 lbs by the time it was mid April 2023. (Prior to this I was battling a nasty opiate addiction and was constantly high on MJ or prescription painkillers.) I decided to try to recover again, because I felt sick and didn't want to destroy my body further or end up in hospital. I was doing great. Cut the binging and was losing weight afterward. Lost the 20 lbs i gained and I felt the healthiest I had ever been since October 2022. Then I relapsed in mid June 2023. gained the weight back. in September I tried recovering again. failed. gave up sometime after a breakup. tried again in December/early January. failed. now we're in 2024. I can't binge nearly as bad as I used to. I can't physically eat more than 2000 calories (which is around my maintenance, I'm around 150 lbs) most of the time. I rarely binge on sugar. I'm actually taking recovery seriously. This shit takes time but also I would never ever let myself go back to how I was during the pandemic. going from 130 to 150 is nothing compared to going from 150 to 200+. BED and bulimia are just as bad as AN-R, and people don't understand why they're bad specifically the binge eating aspects of those EDs. I could've ruptured my stomach from the binging alone. I also would turn to drugs to cope with feelings instead of food (I don't get the munchies either) but now I'm actually enjoying things and having stuff I can focus on that isn't literally destroying my health. This is a process and I am trying my best but all I know is, Eds aren't healthy no matter what kind it is.

    Love how thae people make it seem like people can't lose weight or should. Just because the wont.... Or make it seem like it's no big deal, when the odds of a person losing large amounts of weight is drastically low. It's a very huge deal to do this.

    • @lisaking.goalking
      @lisaking.goalking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is and honestly I don't blame them for struggling to lose. I find the medical and nutritional system we have to be very lacking in support. What we are told to eat to lose weight is completely unsustainable. Not to mention, so many of these people have binge EDs and struggle to heal from them. I don't think the medical system knows how to deal with this either. That being said, just because someone has an ED doesn't change the reality that being overweight is unhealthy.

      @@lisaking.goalking it’s clear from your response that you have such black and white thinking. nobody sane is saying that morbidly obese people are healthy, but to completely discredit the fa movement is so braindead. what many fa activists are saying is that it’s possible to be overweight and not be on the verge of dying from fat induced cancer. and not to be and armchair psychiatrist but the fact that you have an entire internet presence based on bringing down a movement that advocates for people who look like you imo shows you have a lot of internalized hatred that, yea, needs unpacking.

    I find it incredibly irritating that my brain seems to superficially judge whether someone is correct about something based on how "well spoken" they are. I have to admit, the dietician is well spoken as fuck. Without the response I probably would accept what she has to say at face value. Whatever the thing is is the thing that gets me, someone who worked as a lab scientist for 10 years, less money when offered a job, if I even have the privilege of being the person who gets it (which is usually when nobody else applies lol). Not what this video is about but eh. Hi!

    The whole "People treat you better when you lose weight" thing is so false. When I weighed 290lbs no one ever said anything about my body or judged my food EVER, but after losing 110lbs people freely judge my food choices (no matter what I'm eating) and openly make comments about my body. And because I've lost weight there is just an unspoken expectation that I cannot get upset by these comments and I just have to laugh them off.
