Rutgers - you're in the BIG TEN now (at least officially) - pick up those knees and start stepping! Watch Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, IU and others (Penn State had to pick up their marching band showmanship when they joined the BIG too, it can be done)...applaud your commitment and dedication, push your directors to start marching like a BIG TEN band - your fans will notice

It'll never happen. For some strange reasons Rutgers Band leaders and even the students are adamant, in spite of having zillions of models or superior bands to look up to and emulate, in INSISTING on "doing their own unique thing." That unique thing is apparently mediocrity and drives me insane how they can all be so clueless in just continuing to suck. Watched this video and I saw a glorified high school band. Put my head in my hand when I saw the drum majors do salutes like they're at a high school marching band competition. What's worse is that for the halftime shows they actually now have a PIT. A freaking pit. "To get more talented students involved." It's such bullshit. It's a damned high school band and it's a disgrace. That's what happens when you hire a high school band director as your new band director. They had a chance to fix years of mediocrity under the previous director, and instead of going with someone with actual big college band experience they hire some director from a local high school because "they like him." Like him or not, he doesn't have the big college marching band experience that the band has needed at the helmet for decades. The Rutgers Band is destined to be clueless. If I ever got exceptionally wealthy the first thing I'd do is give a huge sum of money to Mason Gross, the arts school, and amount they can't refuse, in exchange for then hiring (with a hefty salary) a Big Ten Band director who will be allowed to have full total control in making Rutgers a Big Ten, crowd pleasing band. I'm talking chair step, spats, the drumline style, etc. But that'll never happen.
