UNIMOG TIRE CHAINS
This video is about various tire chains for Unimogs and tractors. These are all chains I use to go through deep snow when plowing or snowblowing or taking the Unimogs on trails in the winter. I regularly drive in 2+ feet of snow on steep hills with the chained Unimog. April and I was going to take my chains off but we are getting 2 ft of snow which reminded I made this video a while ago and never posted it.

Starting a Unimog U1200
มุมมอง 6K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a short video on how to start and stop a mid 1980's municipal spec Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1200. This particular Unimog was set up with a plow and sander and is on it's way to Maine.
UNIMOG U1300L Ambulance Test Drive
มุมมอง 156K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a quick test drive in a Mercedes Benz Unimog U1300L Ambulance. It shows how to start and stop a German Army Spec Unimog. It also shows what it is like to drive a Unimog on the road. This Unimog was going out to a customer and I wanted to give him a quick idea of what to expect. I thought I'd just share it it with everybody.
Kalahari Elephants
มุมมอง 1K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Driving in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana in a Unimog U1300L. We followed a "trail" that no longer existed so the beginning is us actually getting on the "road" after bushwhacking. Elephant dung really does burn and makes a great fuel source.
black cotton mud
มุมมอง 4.3K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Unimog U1300L in East African Black cotton. This is some of the slipperiest stuff to drive on. The Unimog was in high demand for recovery and few Land Cruiser or Land Rovers made it far.
Mt. Kenya with a Unimog
มุมมอง 32K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This was driving a Unimog U1300L up an old access road on Mt. Kenya. We got up to about 12,000 feet. It's steeper than it looks, very wet and the mud is extremely slippery. We stayed on the old road until it got grown in and decided to turn back instead of driving on grown in tracks. The smoke from the Unimog is because of the high altitude.
S Sudan Traffic Jam
มุมมอง 3.1K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a S.Sudan traffic jam. Some of these vehicles were there for more than a week and some will be stuck for several weeks until the ground hardens up. Unimogs, motorcycles and tractors are the only vehicles that even have a chance of making it through. Filmed from the inside of a Unimog.

Unimog U1300L in black cotton mud. This area is impassible in Land Rovers, Land Cruisers and even most 4x4 tractors.
thx
The oil control at the left engine side is not for the gear box.....it is for steering oil. The oil of the gear box you can test on the right side under cabin.
I love your assistance he is cute
But you don t have a low ore high gear lever ?
This is stretching a tire. The rim is 11 inches thick but the tire is only 10.5 inches thick so it will not seat using compressed air only. Usually you need to give it air before the explosion so if starts seating you can continue to push it onto the rim. Bead blaster's don't have enough air to stretch these tires but they work fine if the tire is wider than the rim.
First the explosion then the air✌️
По хорошему это делают бачёнком со сжатым воздухом, а взрывают если уже никак
He did it wrong
Merci à vous grâce à votre vidéo j’ai appris des choses et aussi valider le circuit pneumatique de celui que je restaure cordialement
Hi what app is for the speedometer gps ??? Please
Old Mercedes-Benzs' never die.
is this one for sale
That forest of sticks looks daunting.
Well the plus side is you can leave it running and nobody will be able to steal it xD
What model is this one?
U1300L with OM366A engine. I've started them in colder than that. -20F -28C is about as cold as I've done without ether. They are definitely reluctant but they usually start without ether at that temp but they need good batteries. With a shot of ether I've started Unimogs at close to -40F -40C although it sometimes takes a few tries. They definitely don't like the cold but I've never not been able to start one because of the temp, even with tired old engines with lots of hours.
@@theunimogcenter sounds good, men we love those german trucks ;)
Great info, thanks for sharing
No glow plugs for 35+years old truck with mechanical injection?? Impressesive :)
cool do you have any unimogs for sale what are they costing these days for a u1300l ambulance?
I've got a few U1300L ambulance in the pipeline as well as a U1300L flatbed. All have OM366 Turbo and high speed axles.
@@theunimogcenter cool how can i get ahold of you
Can you do a rundown on what every lever is an how to use them?
Thanks for making this.! It seems a bit of an art and I was doing it all wrong. Guess I will have to wait until next year to try again.
Use unidan gear ratio Axel
Better start in 3 or 4 idle but never in 5th with 1000rpm's
How fast it can go on highways?
With the bucket and backhoe on it'll do about 35 mph. Very scary at that speed. Take off the implements and it'll just about get to 50 mph
I own a unimog agri spec 1600 great machine's
❤
This is my dream truck
I love the “big aggressive horn” in Unimogs - makes me laugh every time
Hi George, great video, very thorough. It’s always interesting to see all of the variations.
Thanks and keep up the good work on your U1300/37!
Is this for sale?
This Unimog has sold. The instructions are for the new owner. However, I usually have similar Unimogs for sale - similar ones should be coming in later this year.
Hola, soy de Chile, y nosotros tenemos estos camiones en el Ejército, aprendi a conducir gracias a estos camiones, son super comodos y me relaja bastante manejar este tipo de vehículos
Hi there! During my military service in the German Army I spent a lot of time on the right seat or, as a recruit, with seven comrades on the loading bed of that model. Thanks for bringing back memories. I like the sound very much.
Hi great video this vehicle does'nt have front or back pro. Thanks for share, grettings from Colombia
What’s the red light that popped up on the speedometer?
He was driving to fast
@@wodanowitz oh ok
It's a speed warning light. It comes on if you are exceeding German speed limits for commercial trucks. Not an issue in the USA or most of the world.
Wow, that's amazing!
Why weren't you allowed to use the sirens?
In the USA at least, only the police can use blue sirens. Big no no for anybody else - sort of like impersonating a police officer.

Good 👍
that first red icon linked to second position of locker switch icon does NOT mean u r in 4wd, u r allways in 4wd. also clutch press when starting doesnt seem to be mandatory.
I do not believe that is correct, Unimogs are not full time 4x4 as far as I know. They just don’t use locking/unlocking hubs like a regular old truck did, they have a full time hub setup but selectable 2 wheel drive/4 wheel drive…..
The U1300L is not fulltime 4x4. You are not always in 4x4. Normally you are in 2x4 rear wheel drive. Not sure where you are getting your info from. Clutch press depends on specific vehicle. Some have a clutch press safety, some don't - depends on the requirements for specific markets and uses.
Yes thats correct they are normaly rear wheel drive even the Newest. There are some expetation. The biggest models are Standard 4 wheel drive. And thats only with the last gen and the actual gen. Greetings from Germany
@@theunimogcenterdid they scrapped her! Take her apart where is she today!

One day I make this a camper
A bit late.. But the red light on the speedometer is there to warn the driver that he/she is nearing highest allowed speed for heavy vehicles. In Europe you’re not allowed to go any faster than 90kph in a heavy truck, if you’re hauling a trailer you’re only allowed to do 80. This differs some between different countries in Europe, but the upper limit is always 90kph. All vehicles with a total weight of 3500kg or more are subject to this speed limit, except for buses which, at least in Scandinavia, are able to do 100kph. A small question: do you use the tachograph behind the speedometer in the US?
Tachographs are not used in the USA. I just keep them blank. Yes the warning light is at 80kph for speed limit warnings in Europe. In the USA I can drive 100+kph on many highways if I want to;)
the unimog is the best 4WD I know
For a long time we had a Unimog fire engine in our volunteer fire department , but it was taken out of service a few years ago, but it was a very good vehicle and we miss it
a long time ago I drove a MB 1418 LAK when I served in the Brazilian army with a engine OM-366A similar to the this unimog it was good times
Unimog - das Beste oder nichts...!🤪💪👍
Unimog - Alles andere ist nur Behelf ;)
Questo non è un veicolo per correre. Non ha senso cambiare marcia a 3500 giri
Do all the ones after 1990 already have the high speed gears?
They didn't have slower ones bevore🤔
I'm just trying to learn more about them
For the Unimogs with this cab there are three gearboxes: First One(~1979 to ~1989): UG3/40 Second (~1990 to ~2002): UG3/65 Third (~2002 to today): UG3/100 All gears are the same, maybe not exactly, but you wont see any difference. Only ecaption is the 8th gear of the UG3/100, ist 26% (0,74i instead of 1,00i) faster than the 8th gear of the other two.
@@tkintsxela2526 thank you!
@@odoyle_rulez But there are a lot posibilities to add "gearboxes" or change the transaction of the differential. If you need more information, leave you mail, i will sind you some pictures.

I wonder if the Unimog performs the same full loaded. For example after a conversion into a Camper.
Mercedes is probably the only manufacturer that makes a H pattern shifter with four columns
Very informative and interesting video sir!
