Heavily delayed Hydrogen Station opening
Alternative fuels vehicles are very difficult to live with. I have a Tesla Model 3 with no home charging due to not being able to have home charging, and it is such a hassle. Tesla chargers are the best when it comes to EV charging but it's still rough compared to gas. Also, the savings vs. the amount of time you need to sit in the car is not worth it. It seems like the Hyrdro squad has it even worst. Good luck guys, I hope you're able to have more chargers/ refueling stations....
Toyota lied

Visiting a failed TH-cam channel
If your car gets into a very severe collision, does it blow up like the Hindenburg ?
So this wonder fuel that so many people are claiming will be the future is not only slower than using an electric vehicle charging infrastructure but also significantly more expensive and there is zero uptake of this. It doesn’t look like that will be fuel anyone uses anytime in the near future.
Wow, if only there was another vehicle type that was not only sustainable but cheap to fill up...
Use pounds in America
Its like an HP printer, you can get one cheap but you pay through the nose for the replacement cartridges
Just Ridiculously Stupid, Full Circle.
The Costa Mesa station is one of eight SoCal, gaseous supplied, True Zero stations that are labelled as "offline" as shown on H2FCP's station map. The status of these stations indicate that "... our supplier ... experienced a major service disruption..." The supplier is Linde in Ontario and is the reason that the stations are not open. The good news is, however, there is word (unofficial from H2FCP) that Linde should resume operation soon and the TZ stations should be opening in the next month or two. WRT the La Mirada station... La Mirada is one of six Iwatani stations that have been constructed but have yet to be fully opened. This is because the equipment installed is from Nel Hydrogen which has reported to be prone to failure. Iwatani is suing Nel for the faulty equipment and they have taken on the task of coming up with fixes and upgrades. They are currently using Corona and Seal Beach for those upgrades and are partially open. Until they have found reliable solutions, those six stations will not open.
Idea: Delve into why the station closed. Interview the operator, ask if it would be ok to put a recorded portion of that interview on your channel. I mean, at 2K subscribers, you are far from a nobody.
😮
In Germany it goes the exact opposite way - people are moving away from EVs and into all other kinds of vehicles. Hydrogen is the new hope/hype.
No, Germany is the same as California. Several stations have closed, and the number of hydrogen cars on the road has been declining.
@@JoshuaStringfellow1 Your source for this information?
@@JohnSmith-e6f6c Looks like TH-cam is probably spam filtering if I try and reply with links, but h2 live and now-gmbh (you can google them and the sites will come up) each have data. H2Live has a chart of open stations in Germany over time, this peaked at 96, is now at 81 which includes 5 stations in trial operations. NowGMBH has monthly reports, if you click through the cars 'New Registrations' section on the homepage, then Monthly Reports, then the latest report has a chart for passenger car stock by powertrain which shows a decline from 2266 in Q4 2023, to 2048 in Q4 2024 in the stock.
is $36/kg a lot? is it cheaper than gas?
That is about $0.55 a mile. Efficient ICE cars are about $0.10 to $0.15 per mile. Efficient EVs are about $0.02 to $0.03 per mile.
In seven years of driving FCEVs, I have paid under $600 ($85/year) for fuel due to the fuel cards I have received. Much cheaper than if I had to pay for gas.
@@bruhabox but that isn’t sustainable. Toyota is losing tens of thousands of dollars per car subsidizing that fuel. Toyota isn’t going to pay for the fuel forever and then you will be paying 10-20 times as much as an EV.
It’s a ton. It’s a 5kg tank x $36 =$180 for a full tank. New and certified pre owned come with a fuel card to offset the cost. But if it runs out, you’re SOL.
@@LearningFast I don't disagree that it isn't sustainable. But I believe Toyota and other FCEV OEMs will continue with fuel cards for a while until the hydrogen infrastructure starts to grow. Yes, the OEMs are losing money now, but unlike U.S. companies, Japan and South Korea (with their Hyundai Nexo) are thinking long term. Like how Toyota lost money for many years with the Prius, they knew it was the right direction in the long run.
The station in Torrance that was owned by Shell just got changed to Air Products. They opened today this morning until 1:00pm. Supposedly their first official grand opening day is next Monday.
What's the price like? Torrance was my closest location and it was 27.99 last time I was there.
LOL eagles fan. explains everything.
Even CNG would be better...
Do you think you can still negotiate a 2024 Mirai Limited less than $25,000?
That is a huge difference in price.
Whats the fuel cost per mile?
$7500 for addons? Lol. Longo Toyota has second series 2021+ Mirai for as low as eleven thousand dollars right now certified of course. In addition you can get a 30 percent federal tax credit if you make less than seventy five thousand dollars as a single Or less than $150,000 as a couple. So you can basically get the entire car for about $7,500 right now. It's sad because these are very well made cars like even the first series arrived was a solid car but either Toyota or somebody screwed up the hydrogen fueling to the point where they're basically worthless right now
Deja vu
Toyota sold 499 Mirai cars in 2024. That is down almost 82% from 2023. It is their worst selling vehicle by a factor of five. Yet, people still think Hydrogen is the future?
Hydrogen has a future in larger applications - trucks, buses, fleet vehicles. Its more difficult to justify the price points in passenger vehicles. The Mirai is great as a 2nd, or 3rd, car. Not as a daily driver. That said, I would buy the Mirai as a 3rd vehicle. We have to move off of dirty fossil fuels. Think Green Hydrogen.
Yeah, for heavy vehicles it's a no-brainer
Your wheels definitely look good for sure.
"When you said "When a station goes down, it usually stays down" - that is alarming. Do more videos about other players in the Hydrogen space like you said. You're invested into this. We're invested! We need more people clamoring for Hydrogen to get the people with money in the pockets to move, IMHO.
How about title this video instead "No More Hydrogen Fuel at UCI Station?" You could actually rename it to that right now as you read this, as the creator. The title of this video is unduly alarming. yes, we know there's a crisis. but it is my hope that people like you who bought the Mirai be more of a champion for the Mirai, Toyota, and Hydrogen, instead of sensationalizing a headline to get more views.
This.
lol at this point you should have gotten an ev 😅
$1.93 a mile my truck that gets 3 MPG where I live gets .82 a mile but my truck is a commercial vehicle 😂 it's around $145.80 to fill up and it get 180 miles a tank
can you just remove the hydrogen tank and replace it with additional batteries then convert it as BEV? (including the charging system)
Imagine when something breaks on this complex system.
Thanks for the update. Their statement that "the UCI Station will close due to inability to finalize an acceptable agreement with H2 supplier" is false. They are closing because the UCI hospital is taking over the property. Also, Iwatani is another hydrogen station developer. Because the equipment they are using has been notoriously bad (Nel Hydrogen is the OEM), Iwatani has had to develop fixes on their own. Though they have finished building six stations, only two are partially open: Seal Beach and Corona. Iwatani is currently charging about $30/kg.
EVs are better. The failure of hydrogen as a fuel for passenger cars has been obvious from the start. Hope Toyota and any other fuel cell vehicle manufacturers reimburse all of you who got scammed by their lies!
Most hydrogen is made through natural gas steam reforming, aka fossil fuels. You then have to compress (or liquify), transport it to stations, fill up (compressing again). All those steps lose energy. And what you are using that for? To put in a fuel cell, which generates electricity. And not too much of it at any given time, so you need batteries as well. Which means you have an EV already. Just skip the middle man and charge batteries directly.
@ exactly, battery electric vehicles are the best!
@42069SWAG - "EVs are better. The failure of hydrogen as a fuel for passenger cars has been obvious from the start". If you love EVs so much why are you even here. Go spread your propaganda about EVs elsewhere.
@ it popped up and I was interested. It’s not propaganda. EVs have proven to be a much better solution than hydrogen. Hydrogen is less efficient, more expensive and due to the fact hydrogen is the physically smallest element in the universe, it naturally corrodes and escapes any tank it’s in over time. Look up hydrogen embrittlement.
Time to switch soon? Ev
Really sad to see.
Day 1 of 2025, air products takes off UC Irvine h2 station for foreseeable future until they get their contract settles with supplier WOW. UNBELIEVABLE! Is this a forshadowment for the entire industry of hydrogen light duty stations? Thank goodness I sold my Toyota Mirai almost a year ago! Good riddance. Love the videos man. Keep it up
Ya watching this channel makes me glad i picked my tesla model 3 long range 😂
@ every car has their pros and cons. But h2 cars are all worthless depreciating ticking time bombs lol. Jk. But until these companies fix their problems then h2 is stuck in these weird bubble and will burst soon if they can’t figure it out soon or when their business fails because of money issues.
@lankytoast1315 - why did you even buy a Mirari without knowing first what your were getting into?
@@JohnSmith-e6f6c bought it a few years ago. At the time, it was good but prices went crazy after a few months of ownership. Horrible horrible car!!! Poor range to say the least.
@@lankytoast1315 But its built on a Lexus frame, and the H2 prices aren't Toyota's fault. You're fault is with the H2 fueling prices. Oil and gas billionaires have got this thing rigged. They don't want us having H2.
The UCI station is now closed as of 1/1/25.
Why?
My Tesla costs ¢6/mile with grid electricity in California
Bad news for UCI: "Effective 1 Jan. 2025, the UCI Station will close due to inability to finalize an acceptable agreement with H2 supplier. We thank all who have supported over the 22 years, during which the hydrogen economy blossomed and invaluable research was conducted."
And just think, most Hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels 🤯
Seems like you could have saved time and precious fuel if you had checked the status beforehand, like you did after arriving at the first station 😜
Could this be the lawsuit that breaks Toyota? Like the lawsuit that broke VW and forced them to establish electrify Anerica ?
So these cars are wack...don't purchase a hydrogen car
Bro Longo Toyota has a 2022 white Mirai exactly like yours for $12,000 listed and that's a certified and with a 15,000 gas card so new tires all the good stuff. So there's no way you're getting $9,000 for your car when you trade it in. Dealers buy these from auto auctions and currently they're selling for like $3,000 at the auctions and you know dealers aren't stupid so there's no way you're going to pull one over on them. You might be able to find some sucker in the private sector to pay you $9,000 for that but then you'd have the guilt of ripping them off. You need to do a video on this and correct your error
Where do they get the Hydrogen from? Using electricity to separate water molecules into Hydrogen and oxygen. So why not use that same electric to power and EV? 🙄
130.00 gets me over 600 miles on a diesel truck..😂😂😂
Better than EV but for the price premium gas wins in BMW, more power and half price of what you paid, at least in Chicago. But great video, first time I've seen someone charging hydrogen. Thanks!
$83.00? Are you kidding me? Where do you live?
$130 for a mid sized 4 door to only go 330 miles with the ac on. That's as bad as my Ford F-350 four-door long wheel base 4x4 pickup pulling a 24-foot camper. It makes my 5.0L Coyote look like a gas milage car.
