I do not want to be "over the top" but I really cannot imagine a more worthless video. First and foremost, you "quit your job" to become a freelance writer. This of course is a bold choice that took ambition to ACHEIVE, however if everyone were to take your advice and leave their jobs for something more fulfilling you would essentially just create more of the same issue. Many of the jobs that are seen as more fulfilling would become overloaded and become extremely competitive. It is something we all observed recently in the TH-cam space. EVERYONE wants a more fulfilling TH-cam lifestyle and now the space is extremely difficult to find success in and typically leads to heavy burn out even if successful (defeating the entire purpose of your advice). It is great that you had a skill set that was marketable after leaving the workforce, however this video only serves at best as heavy self affirmation, and at worst dangerous/risky advice that could lead to a lot of hardship. The real irony here is that you were able to leave the workforce by selling self improvement slop like the pathless path, taking advantage of those who want a more stress free life, a stress free life that you would not be able to experience without taking advantage of others insecurities. TLDR You can live a more stress free life if you take advantage of people.

Hi Paul, I enjoyed this video, Joe's 3 step golden algorithm is interesting, we can avoid/run/hide from uncomfortable emotions for only so long, but at some point you have to face the uncomfortable things in life. In regards to work, you can either face the discomfort intentionally now, or you will find yourself facing them in the form of a mid life crisis later.

The outdoor lifestyle path is more difficult than the writing example IMO. Say you want to climb, surf, bike, or run every day. It's tough to make money to fund a life doing that. The challenge then is to find the most profitable good enough work to most quickly fund the outdoor lifestyle.

Thanks for sharing the behind-the-scenes reality of being a writer! As a father of three, I completely resonate with how laughter (or crying) from the next room can intrude on the writing process and - in my case - completely derail it. Of course, I also try to work outside the home, as it's the only way to avoid being interrupted every five minutes. For me, the best place right now is the reading room at the National Library - there's just something magical about writing while surrounded by a building full of books. I'm curious, how long does it take you to get back into your writing groove if you've been interrupted?

Bingo bango. I have the feeling the Tim Feris’s etc who promote this guy think “a McKinsey guy who’s gone ‘pathless’ … yeh I’ll reply to his reach out because he might get massive”. Make it Bob from the burger shop going pathless, writing a book, and reaching out to Tim Feris’s and I think 99% of the time it’ll be crickets. Same with basically every example in the book. Well to do people. Who even if things go wrong for can still make more money and have a more stable life than your average joe. Talking about going pathless. It’s absurd lol but there’s clearly a market for the idea. I never guessed so much of going pathless was writing books, selling courses, and talking online.

it's so interesting hearing the origin story of the David Pakman show because when I was in college, I remember briefly listening to him when he probably had less than 10k subscribers (maybe 15k if I'm being generous), so I'm familiar with the timeline he's describing when he just finished his MBA. I eventually stopped listening to him cuz college got hard, as it does, and I never heard from him again until I started listening to Destiny debates after Trump got elected, which eventually led to Destiny doing a debate together with Pakman and was pleasantly surprised his show still existed. In the show's earlier days, his videos seemed like it was very niche and would probably not go further than a college campus after which the show would disappear once he got a "real job". Compared to his earlier days, it was really cool to see the show grow as he started interviewing actual Congressmen and women. Really cool to have seen his show's humble beginnings and growth into what it's now today.

5:21 So the Dec'22 spike came off of.. what exactly? Doesn't seem that Ali's March 2022 "bookshelf video" endorsement moved the needle... So if that huge Dec '22 increase contributed to 10K units being sold in 2022 overall - is that where you spent whole $10k in ads you mentioned? And does that mean you sold book at ~$1 CPA? Amazing! (but hard to believe because nowadays you can't get clicks at such a bargain...)
