Many Sided Media is a podcasting company that aims to build and grow a community of TTRPG players, creators, and fans through a variety of game-themed content. On this channel you'll find uploads of our two major podcasts: My First Dungeon and Talk of the Table.
My First Dungeon is the tabletop roleplaying podcast that helps game masters learn new games and make each one better than the last.
Talk of the Table is the TTRPG talk show where hosts Elliot Davis and Brian Flaherty talk with game designers, actual play producers, journalists, academics, artists, and performers about all the coolest things happening in the TTRPG community in an effort to understand what's on the mind of the tabletop industry.

My First Dungeon - Rom Com X-Mas Bomb!
Love is strange. Sometimes it finds you at the office holiday party…. Sometimes it finds you over a cup of cocoa.... And sometimes it finds you with a bomb strapped to your heart and a horny Santa Claus forcing you to perform in a fucked up romantic comedy….
This is that third kind of love.

I grabbed my copy of Wildsea so I figured it would be nice to find an actual play to see how the mechanics interweave. I got so much more than I bargained for. You made me cry (and laugh), the characters were brought into life by the players, the story was unnerving, and the sound design tied it all together better than I honestly expect from a TTRPG podcast. Great job to everyone involved, you're doing a wonderful thing. What other podcast from you would you recommend? I can't seem to find episode 1 of Bitcherton
Thanks so much! If you're looking for other AP podcasts I'd definitely recommend our season of a game called Orbital Blues (it's one of our best). DIE: REPLAY is a great one from Dead Ghost Productions, Worlds Beyond Number is probably the best podcast out there right now. The Panic Table is a Mothership AP on TH-cam that is super high quality. Lots of great stuff to choose from. You can listen to Bitcherton on any podcast player or you can listen to episode 1 on TH-cam at this link: th-cam.com/video/5vSPYBKDcJ4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KsjDAoLwP09oVrrP&t=541
@@ManySidedMediaThank you for the link and recommendation, the fact that its not marked as Ep. 1 in title made me skim over it, assumed it's a promo. :)
@@ratglyph Just corrected that so it's clearer in the future. Hope you enjoy!

This is so so so SO good. When he pulled the gun on the heart omg. Incredible players and GM
Slower, Amber Howl, Kill! Kill!
The Russian nesting doll retcon was a stretch by any measure... lol.. Could hear the gears whirring in Elliot's brain.. "It's the finale. Sure." 😅 Great show, great vibe, awesome production values. You guys feel like the generational successor to the Glass Cannon Network.. Elliot GMs (and sounds) like Jared Logan, even. As a middle aged newbie trrpg designer who's still learning the ropes, your actual play is giving me a well-rounded experience.. fun and educational for my style of learning, I.e. immersion. Congratulations on a well-executed voyage.
😮 The character development was stellar!
Pied piper of the ichor.. 💡
The Coffee joke was the best bit ever.
That joke gets me every time I hear it
Do you post the Tree Shanties somewhere? They're wonderful!
We have them all posted for free to download on our Patreon page. They will likely go up on Spotify sometime in the future, but I don't have a timeline for that.
Can't believe I'm only just now finding this-- Taylor is such an incredible talent, his work on WBN is awe inspiring I love listening to him talk about his process. Thank you for conducting this conversation!!!
I always love talking to Taylor. Also, if you liked this interview we did another two-part interview over on our other podcast called My First Dungeon from before he was working on WBN. Lots of cool stuff in that conversation about the state of actual play podcasts and how to produce them. If you liked this conversation then you'll definitely be interested in that one.
Not sold on that suggestion to do Cuts so frequently (also, they arrive from several sources, so...). Even a single point of Cut almost delete any chance of 6. Sure, 4-5 are still successes (but still you have few chance to get them), but hell, doing things with costs too many times during a session feels "punitive", not "dangerous".
This podcast is so fantastic! I was surprised and hyped to hear a shout out to Julia Bond Ellingboe's games too!
I don't trust games that tell their gms not to prep.
Actually, many games that build on the consequences of the dice need few prep. Also, you don't have complex, crunchy Stat blocks, so improvise dangers, creatures, people is easy and rewarding 'cause you leave a lot of freedom to the players. No need to bring them back on rails you hardly prepared in advance, because... You don't.
@ishmadrad a game with stat blocks doesn't preclude improving easily and responding to dice results. Creative constraints, be they mechanical, plot, or worldbuilding, make better creative experiences. Prep is good even for crunchless or crunch-light games.
@@feruspriest well, I understand your point, but if you need complex stats, you simply can't bring in play a brand-new ship (with stats), a brand-new captain, and a dozen of crew members. If you need half an hour to write down levels, characteristics, skill values, derived stats, roll HPs, put credible equip, add armor, feats, powers, skill slot etc. etc. you CAN'T create in real-time as games like Wildsea do. OR, as usually many masters have to do in "trad crunchy" games, you cheat, so behind your screen you have no seriously built characters, but an amalgam of semi-randomly chosen values. Also, in games like Wildsea, you are totally pushed toward a semi-choral creation of elements; for example, when a player gain a Twist on a roll (and they are common), other players HAVE to think about that Twist, and bring it in fiction... And a twist could be "a new enemy arrives" or "this city is subtly invaded by allucinating spores" or "a flying squidwhale is singing over our ship" or "in your backpack you find a ring made of amber that you never had before". Now, your GM prep can go belly up in an hour of play... You better need only catchy starting hooks and some cool idea for interesting NPCs, and then running wild with your players during the session. And this is only one of the elements; they can create in real time equip, they can choose the loot they find (or hunt), they have Whispers that build whole game lore around them with magical force (again, built in real time and, no, it's not you as GM that create it). They can choose their adventure, 'because they don't follow a classic quest. They can go out to sea simply for salvaging, exploring or surviving, and every single roll on the "point-crawl blank map" is a potential whole new adventure that you HAVE to built in real time around them: it can be a new giant ruin emerging the trees, it can be an insular community, friendly or not, it can be a huge leviathan... and you can't discover it in advance, you do it during the session. And this is the game, these are rules, not "game phylosophy" or "GM suggestions". And there's more, but hey, this is a wall text long enough...
Love the energy. Keep it up, wildsailors!
Heck yeah, more Wildsea
How are all of these interviews so good!? <3 This had me gleefully taking notes like I was back in grad school prepping for my favorite seminar.
Gosh, what a ride. Thank you all for this amazing podcast. A wonderful cast that inspire me as a player and GM, and a sound design and editing that blew me away so many times. I'll be looking gladly forward to the next season ❤️
Thank you so much! We're really proud of how this season came out. This week we're also putting out our full season talkback with the designer of The Wildsea, Felix Isaacs that you might enjoy. And if you're looking for another story to binge, I'd highly suggest checking out our season of Orbital Blues :)
Gosh the introduction of the one track mire "we will never see the sun again" was an amazing moment
That one gave me (Brian) chills. So good
This was fantastic! Please, the crew has to return in a new series. I grew so fond of the characters and you all.
Thank you! I expect you'll be seeing these players again in future seasons. And if you want to hear more Wildsea from us then keep shouting it from the rooftops and we'll try and make it happen.
This has been so fantastic and wow what a great end!! Got all the feels in this episode. Hope you guys can return to this some day. Looking forward to what you guys do next ♥️
Thanks! We're really happy and proud of how this season came together. We're already hard at work on the next season (and the next season or two after that lol) but honestly we all want to return to The Wildsea someday- both on- and off-mic.
This was an amazing series. Thank you to all who was a part of it! :) I hope you will return to the Wildsea again some time soon! ❤
Thanks so much for listening! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I found Superdillin first several years ago on Twitter! 😏👍🏼
We love Superdillin so ding dang much!
This cast is already so incredible! I'm glad to see it's fully funded, I may throw in my 10 bucks anyways
"I remember your teets very well." The thing I love about this is how relatable the dialog is
This is so good!! I'm not ready for the last episode 😭
Thank you for bringing us another fantastic episode of Talk of the Table! Looking towards many more.
Our pleasure!
I do indeed have my copy whilst listening to this.
I wish you would consider putting these in a playlist. As more videos of different categories get released, it becomes a bit hard to navigate the channel.
😂 Oh sorry not water. There's not water in this world... this is the Wild Sea baby!
Ok totally loving the vibe of this... and want to listen to you all for hours on end. But... uhmmm... where are the playlists? 😂 Help a motivationally challenged person out. Much love.❤
My wife wants the Hollows... She absolutely loves the look. She gets it and I get to play with the setting/system. Win win.
A perfect marriage!
Oh yeah, keep it coming :) Awesome play, awesome characters, awesome editing :)
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed the finale!
A lovely chat with one of my favourites
Thank you! We always love having Grant on the show
Absolutely amazing! ❤
The pilot episode they released is SO GREAT. Like, 'cheeks hurt from so much smiling and laughing' great.
Backed! Looks like a great cast!
Thank you so much!
This is fantastic!!! I can't wait for more!
Just backed!!! Incredible cast.
Thanks! We can't wait to make more of this show :)
Thrilled to have another episode !
Okay, I'm intrigued.
Gosh this is amazing
Thanks so much!
This is fantastic. I fell in love with Wildsea the first time I watched a review of it, and it's so great to find such a high-quality actual-play of it. I mean it, the characters, the group's vibe, the sound design, the music... I subscribed to your patreon *before I finished the episode.* It's that good, and I'll be certain to shill it to my friends at even the slightest opportunity.
Thank you so much!!! That's incredibly kind of you to say and I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I'm in the middle of editing episode 4 right now and honestly can't wait to share the end of this season with everyone. The players take such big swings and we have a ton of fun with it. And welcome to The Dice Pool (SPLASH!)
This helped me immensely run my wildsea campaign, the rules can be a little intimidating coming from dnd only. This series has made it enjoyable and easy to understand
The pilot was hilarious!
Thanks! We're really happy with it and can't wait to make more :)
Absolutely stacked cast.
Okay this has gone from being my favorite Wildsea actual play to just one of my favorite actual plays period. The constant emphasis that Ezra barely speaks Low Sour and the fact that the cast always remembers to be appropriately startled when Izora starts talking to them are amazing little touches.
Thanks so much! We had a TON of fun with this game and I'm so glad it's translating really well to people listening. If you haven't already, I'd HIGHLY recommend giving Wildsea a read or bringing it to your gaming table. It's a blast! I tell this to everyone who enjoys our shows: if you have a spare moment please leave us a rating and review on your podcast player of choice or tell a friend about the show. It really is an incredible help!
@@brianflaherty3036 For sure! I've been running Wildsea and loving it. Looked you up on Spotify to give 5 stars. Speaking of Spotify, any chance the tree shanties end up on there so I can add them to my Wildsea ambience playlists?
@@Ryoko41 I believe so! It won't be until after the season is over though. We're keeping them as Patreon exclusives until then
I just want to say, you guys are amazing at what you do. I haven't been able to listen to an actual play podcast/show in so long because of so many reasons. But your sound design is the absolute perfect balance of excitement, post-production, and real-time game play. Too many use post production as a crutch or as a "replacement" for the excitement. And so many others just disregard it all together aside from an intro. The sound quality is so good and post production really enhances it. I'm so excited for this season! And I'll stay subscribed to see what comes next. Y'all deserve so many more subscribers and listeners.
This is so incredibly nice of you to say! I'm really glad you're enjoying the season so far. I'm working on the sound design for the next episode now and if you've liked what you've heard so far then I think you're going to enjoy the rest of the season :) Thanks again for the kind words. It really does mean a lot :)
Gosh this is delightful
Thanks!
Do y'all release character sheets, ship sheets, or even access to your shared campaign tracker sheet? Even as a Patreon extra. Would love to check 'em out!
We haven't done that yet, but we might sometime in the future. But our patreon does have cast talkbacks (behind a paywall) and mp3s of all the original tree shanties (totally free!).
Love what I've heard so far and it only makes me more excited to get my hands on the physical book that much more. You are all beautifully hilarious.
