Dario's Model Builds
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 พ.ย. 2021
I started this new channel to document some of my model builds from up here in our nation's capital in the Great White North. I only got back into the hobby a few years ago and still developing a lot of new skills and trying out new methods and tools (mostly learned from other TH-camrs out there). Feel free to comment on anything (the good and the bad).

Great build and workaround for the deformed piece. Especially liked the technique and effect of the tank tracks!
I came across the Mighty Model Shop channel last year, tho't I had sub'ed him but hadn't so I did give him a sub now. He does really nice work.
Nice shopcard, what's ure email address so I can send u my address?😊
Cool shopcard, 👍
Thanks. Sent you an email.
@@dariosmodelbuilds Check your in box.👍
Great looking creature figure Dario, I have 2 to build but fear the seamwork required after gluing the halves together.😮
Well I've now provided the solution to 'reptilian' seamwork so you have no excuses. 😄 Lucky for you to even have 2 kits. I hope you do build one or both before long.
Excellent job, Sir and I like the epoxy idea for the scales
Thanks. My little contribution to the hobby. 😁
Great rendition! Would love to see you tackle some more Auroras.
Definitely more Aurora (or repop) monsters in my future as I already mentioned in the video.
Looks awesome Dario! Turned out super! That movie was filmed just a few hours drive from me at Wakulla Springs!
Thanks. Cool that you are so close to the filming site. Keep those doors locked (for creatures and hurricanes!)
Awesome, we wonna buy one model like this (better finished and painted )
Awesome !! I remember building him growing up. Great memories. Nice job.👍
Thanks. While a few other of my kits in recent years have been nostalgic rebuilds of kits I built as I kid, none were as sentimental as this kit. Almost every part of the kit was exactly as I remembered it. I was so glad I could do it all over again.
Looks awesome Dario, too bad there are so many seams to fix. You really did your research, lots of intereresting info on the movie. The additional details on the base look great. I'd be tempted to brush some Future over his eyes, mouth, hands and feet to make them look a little more shiny and wet. The snake looks amazing. Nicely done buddy.
Thanks. I did put Future on both the Creature and the lizard's eyes. I do not mind seams as long as they are 'fixable'. (PS: I did manage to make a quick stop at that Kinston model Flea Market yesterday on the way back from Toronto. Picked up two kits and had a nice chat with "The Lazy Eyed Modeler". We'll discuss more at our next meetup)
Good to know, thanks for the update, looking forward to our next meeting.
Really nice work on the Creature Dario, turned out really nice, it's a classic kit, glad Atlantis has brought it back, 😎👍
Thanks Tom. This was a kit I really hoped I could find someday so I was thrilled to see it in one of our local shops over a year ago. You've never seen anyone snatch a kit off a shelf faster than I did that day.
That came out really nice. I built one maybe 20 years ago. I went with a gloss green with a lightly brushed gold over that. That's the good thing about black and white movies - you can do any color you want to LOL. There have been other Creature model kits but this old Monogram model can still hold it's own - especially with the updated fixes you have done to the parts 👍
Thanks. While I love this Creature kit above the others, now that I've built him again I'm hoping I can some of the other newer/different kits just so I can have him in different poses.
@@dariosmodelbuilds That's a good point 🙂 One of the creatures for the movie (the one that did many of the diving scenes) , Ricou Browning, lived here in Florida before he passed away.
@@brucek3217 Yes Ricou passed away only about a year ago (one of the last surviving actors from the film) and from what I understand he was still appearing at conventions until close to the end of his life. I mention him in my video an include one of his 'long' dive scenes.
Awesome build of an awesome kit I really love all the classic Universal Monsters awesome job 🤙🛞💨🏁🤘🤘
I have a few (The Phantom of the Opera, King Kong and Dracula) in my stash that I will be getting to over the next year or so. Since they are so hard to find I don't want to build them all right away. I hope to find more and always keep my eyes peeled for the others I'm missing.
Great video and cool build
Very nice deformed Sherman Dario, nice job and love the diorama base. Too bad a deformed commander figure was not included😊but if his head was too big it would be an easy target.
@@davidchin350 I actually checked around a bit to see what suitable "deformed" figures were available. In the end it would either take too long to get or was too expensive. But they are definitely out there. While I'm happy with my base for what it is, I have a lot to learn in that area.
What a awesome kit I need to get these awesome build 👍🛞💨🏁🤘🤘🤙
This is what I’m building for my Entry for Russellmodel cars 2024 Halloween Group Build was looking around for ideas for paint and came across you’re build 🤙🛞💨🏁🤘🤘
I think there are many colour schemes that would work with the Woody. Hope you noted the one 'gotcha' in the instructions regarding when to glue on those rear fenders. Do it before the wheels get in the way. What version of the kit are you building? The Hearse, or one of the other ways? I'm in the Russell Model Car Halloween GB again this year. Building a Creature from the Black Lagoon.
@@dariosmodelbuilds I’m still in pre assembly before I paint I was going to paint it like the Johnny lightning I have witch is a pink candy chrome I was gonna mix up some watermelon with neon pink but now I’m not so sure 🤔💭💭 I’ll definitely have to go and check out your video I love all the classic movie monsters 🤙🛞💨🏁🤘🤘
@@TheDiecastDad Well I guess I'll wait for the video to see which scheme you chose. Good luck with the build but I do recommend watching my build video to see where the problem areas with the kit are. I check out as many videos from other people before building stuff as you can learn a lot from folks who ran into problem or for new ideas for your own build. It has save me from a lot of headaches.
Great job on this old gem. Got ya subbed. Model on.
That's a great model I have one too still in the box
I hope you have as much fun with it as I did and that my video helps.
Great job and very good save on that deformed part. You tank looks awesome and I love the little base/dio. Very very cool build. Thanks for joining in the fun. Papadan
Also I just wanted you to know there are 19 different tanks in that world war toon series. Just fyi.
Thanks for hosting.
@@hobbytimewithpapadan8436 The Model Car Minion and I will be keeping an eye out for more of these. Our next model show/sale is next week, so crossing fingers we may get some there.
Nice work on fixing the deformed piece. Sorry you had those problems with it, they are usually a simple fun build. I've found that if the tracks are too tight, you can set them in hot water and stretch them slightly but be carefull not to pull too hard on them or they could be loose. Nice detailed explanation of making the base. Glad to hear you enjoyed the build, we'll have to keep watch for more of these kits. I still have one more tank and a bomber in my stash.
I looked into heating up the tracks but some websites were saying that heat would actually contract the rubber instead of expanding it so I did not try. At least in the end it worked out, despite being a pain to fix the issues. Very happy with the kit and glad you talked me into it.
@@dariosmodelbuilds On the German PzrIII kit I am building, one of the tracks were very warped and twisted, so I set them in some warm water for a bit, and corrected the issue. So far, so good, they haven't stretched too much, I hope to finish it this weekend.
Thanks buddy for coaxing another fantastic builder into supporting the GB, it means a lot and we greatly appreciate it!
Glad to, these are fun builds. Dario contacted me through my channel a few years ago and we have been meeting up about once a month.
@@ColonelRebScaleModels The I'm going to have to remember the hot water trick. Looking forward to seeing your build.
Turned out awesome Dario, great dio base, 😎👍
I am happy with the look but I also hope to get better at making more realistic looking terrain in dios. I've certainly made worse looking ones i the past 😱
Cool build!
Nice shout out and I love the idea of doing odds and ends videos. Very cool and look forward to them.
Thanks. I already have a few ideas of what I want to talk about in these videos. We'll see how it goes.
KUDOS ON THE BUILD YO!💯
Cool kit, I had picked up the Milk Trick, Nice kit review and build. Great video Dario!
Thanks. This video seems to be extra popular. Glad you enjoyed.
I have 4 different kits from the series, I would sell or trade
I have a huge stash so no point in having models shipped. I'm sure I'll eventually find them for reasonable prices as I do see them often at shows and a model trade/flea market held locally once or twice a year. Thanks for the offer anyhow.
Cool build! The royal blue really comes out in the beauty shots.
Definitely easier than the Harley. A relatively quick build
Very cool build, I recently built the Mail Box Chopper for the #rustbucketgb24 and it was fun, came out great. I enjoyed your video. Just subbed ya! 👍🏻 #under1000gb24 Jump in, its made for channels just like yours 👊🏻
I participated in last years rustbucket build (see my Model T which I made into an Archie-mobile) but just too busy to enter this year's GB. Thanks for watching. (Already a long time subscribers of your channel).
That's an interesting looking build, looks like a giant ant head. It's fun to go back over some of the earlier builds for review.
Those kits were something like $2-3 at Zellers in the late 90's. I just wanted something quick and easy to build. All Testors paints in those days but I mixed a batch of blue and green to get the color I wanted. I think I still have that bottle with paint left! I've built three now from the series (one of my very first TH-cam video documents a build) and I have one kit left in my stash.
Nice build and totally agree with the exclusions. Don't see your brother liking those ;-)
Great build! The woodwork and floorboards made all the difference. Nice touch on the chains as well!
While I only 'liked' the kit when I began I enjoyed it more and more as I progressed in the build, and now love it. And I can make another anytime!
This was one of three kits that used same frame, engine, tires but different body. I know that two were reissued. Had some of the same problems you had. I went for the gold look and lots of fake jewels. Also painted fabric of the crown with texture paint then purple matte. Nice thing about these kits, anything goes, have fun.
Yes,the scalemates entry shows the convoluted history of this kit. I've only seen one of the other two out in the wild. As I mentioned at the beginning, I also intended to go with the gold and then had a change of heart. I knew that if I tried fabric I would mess it up as I have no experience making contoured shapes. Let me know if there is a link to see an image of yours as I would love to see it.
Hello Dario, I just found your channel and wanted to leave a comment. I like your content and will be looking around a bit. By the way I also just subscribed.
Glad you like it. Unfortunately I sometimes miss details so be sure to correct me when I inevitably goof up again. You may be very busy. If anyone can blunder, it's me. Check out the whopper boo boo I did near the very end of my P-51 build. Still kicking myself for that one. Checked out some of your vids and now subbed!)
Nice shout out for Tim, he does some amazing builds, cool robot and 3rd place 🎉
Thanks. I think you and Tim went to the same "Model Finishing and Paint" school. That's going to be my one and only Model award. #3!
I think it is a good idea Dario! Look forward to seeing more!
I think it's the bean counter in me that decided to keep Model build videos to just that alone. I've go a few ideas that are not strictly model build that that I will be putting into these 'odds and ends'. Also this way I can chime in when I have a build that goes extra long.
I really liked this clip. Great idea. and thanks for highlighting Tim Nolan. His paint jobs are some of the best out there. I love his use of colors and especially his metal flake paints!
He does indeed.
Nice shoutout to Tim, he really does some cool builds and the paint work is outstanding.. Nice robot model..never seen one before.
Those super cheap (price and quality) kits were by Hobby Craft made right here in Canada. We sometimes call them Hobby Crap. I don't know if they even got as far as the states. Nothing to write home about but at least they made some cool Canadian Air Force craft.
Thanks for the shout-out buddy! I appreciate you tuning in! Lot of fun!!! Diggin' the Gundam Warrior!
It is I that must thank you. Especially since I don't think I actually say "Thank you" in the video.
I see several guys are doing a Models and Coffee. I like the name you chose!! Great idea!!
I don't show any coffee cups in my videos (at least I don't think I do) but you can be sure that there is a cup of coffee not too far.
I built the Torque Trike and found three other Trick Trikes at Ollies for $12.99 each. I have Tiki Trike in the works, might finish this week. I also just bought the Large Scale Tom Daniel Trike as a bagged kit from Atlantis for $20 or $25. I am loving what you did with this. Been thinking about this kit for a while. Thanks for the tips on the tires and such.
Unfortunately we don't have Ollies (or Hobby Lobby) here in Canada. There are a few places where surplus model stock sometimes shows up at great prices, but nothing like Ollies. We do have a few stores that buy and resell collections, and we also have a few decent model trade and market events with older kits. So it's not Ollies but it's not too bad either. Looking forward to seeing your Tiki build.
@@dariosmodelbuilds It's shame international shipping is so insanely expensive. Otherwise I'd send you a list. There are times where we get really great deals. The kits are sometimes hit and miss, but I've gotten some good ones over the years. I know Atlantis is doing a line of kits going directly to Ollies for the holidays. The only one I know for sure is coming is a repop of the Old Aurora Indian Chief kit...
@@thegluebombshow Thanks for the thought, but don't sweat it. It's not like I (or any other modeller 😁) have a shortage of kits to build. Now finding the time to actually make a dent in our stashes, that's something I fret over.
@@dariosmodelbuilds Ain't that the truth. I did cartoon about that once. I had a guy saying he builds three kits a year, has three thousand kits in his stash, and comes to the conclusion, that he can build them all.
This plastic model drag racer may date back to 1964! Who knows how early it came? I've never seen these things at first. I first lived at 520 Mello Lane. I also never acted or reasoned my age. It has definitely grabbed my attention the most. It's always something that's unexpected. 💯
Nice job. Just found your channel gave you a sub
That turned out real nice! It has that show rod look!
Thanks. This one seems to be a popular video. Maybe this kit is not as common as I thought it was.
I’ve never seen it before. It would be cool to use the material from the Crown Royal bag.
Enjoyed watching this build, entertaining! Intro/outro song is clearly the Beach Boys sound with a "Mike Love" on lead vocals.
Definitely 'surf' inspired music.
Royal rail looks awesome Dario. Great job.👍
Thanks David. I'm happy with the results.
Very nice! The electronics do the model justice. Nice build!
Grazie!
A very different kit, you are getting good experience with the motorcycle builds. Looks great, good idea covering the seams with those stick on jewels.
Very unfortunate design since the top of the crown is so prominent. The those braces really should have been one piece but the designers must have had their reasons to split them like that. It would not have been an issue if it wasn't in chrome. The jewels (can't take credit for that as I came across some online picture where someone did that) was an act of desperation just trying to hide a very ugly feature.
Cool kit. I just finished the milk trike, and I had a few issues with it, but it was a fun build.
I did not see the Milk Trike on your channel. Must have missed that one. I'm always keeping an eye out for the Trike series. I do see them at shows/stores but for some reason they have gotten really popular lately so the prices have gone up accordingly. But I'm sure I'll eventually find a few reasonably priced at some point.
@@dariosmodelbuilds I did a buddy build with the Bearded guy Jeff. And it's a fun build.
