How to start feeding after 6 months
Hello to everyone! 👋As a pediatrician, I am here to share info about How to start feeding at 6 Months.
▪️ Embarking on Delicious Adventures: A Guide to Starting Solids at 6 Months
Your little one's taste bud adventure begins around 6 months! Here's a helpful guide to navigate this exciting new chapter:
✔️ Why 6 Months?
There's a perfect reason for this timeframe. By 6 months, your baby's digestive system is ready to handle solid foods alongside breastmilk or formula. They're also becoming more curious about the world, reaching out and wanting to explore new things - including textures and tastes!
✔️ First Bites: A World of Purees and Smoothies
Let the exploration begin with single-ingredient purees like smooth avocado, apple ,banana papaya Homemade or store-bought fruit and vegetable soups are also great options like apple ,carrot ,potato or carrot & beetroot a boost in calories & additional essential vitamins ,consider adding a touch of healthy fats like ghee or butter
✔️ Introducing Variety & Progression
It's crucial to introduce one new food at a time, waiting a few days to monitor for any allergies. Start with tiny portions , 1/3 rd of a katori and gradually increase them as your baby gets comfortable with solids. By 6-8 months, aim for 2-3 meals and 1 to 2 snacks daily. This can increase to 3-4 meals and 2 to 3 snacks by 9 months.
✔️ Beyond Purees: Textures & Self-Feeding
Around 12 to 15months, it's time to introduce soft, finger foods like steamed veggies or ripe banana slices or cucumber pieces,This not only exposes them to new textures but also encourages hand-eye coordination and self-feeding skills.
✔️ Introducing Protein & Eggs
Wait until around 9 months to introduce eggs or other protein sources. Start with just the yolk, then gradually introduce the whole egg after 15 days. Always be vigilant for any allergic reactions.
✔️ Remember:
Breastmilk or formula remains the primary source of nutrition until your baby turns 1. Solids are complementary, providing additional vitamins, minerals, and calories.
