clips from a 2 and a half hour flight i had during the afternoon on 4/9/2012
I was 5 when this was going down. I never knew it was a real thing. I thought it was a fake thing from "The Wizard". I'm almost 40 now. I can't tell you how envious I am of these kids. These lucky guys are a part of history. How cool!
Imagine beating 69 Nintendo games
This was in Worchester, Mass. We didn’t actually play Boston.
Absolutely correct! Still it was always referred to as the 'Boston' Event, and the trophy says 'Boston Champion'.
You still have that trophy ? Willing to sell ?
I CAN BELIEVE I FOUND THIS!!! I’m the Mike in the video that came in third. I was telling. My 6 year old son that I was in this and I can’t believe I found a video of it!!! Thank you so much for posting this. Is was so cool to show him that I came in third in this. He is a Mega fan of Mario and has beet so many Mario games already it was crazy to see me in a world championship. Now he is asking if they have one he can compete in.
Lucky!
Hey Mike , anyways i can reach out to you about your time at the Nintendo world championships? Any social platforms to reach you?
I was part of this Nintendo Craze mi whole childhood. I just want to say all the guys n gals that participated on this event, thanks and congratulations for being part of this great spot in video game history.✌🥳
Got any memorabilia from the event to sell?
History right here!
I wish I could've been around to compete
Do you still have your NWC stuff ? Like the grey cart and trophy and paperwork ? I'd be very interested in buying this stuff if you'd be interested in selling please
Have everything but the cart. It was stolen in 1993 by someone I trusted.
I even have the FedEx envelope the cart shipped in
@@Xaanix73 I'm sorry about the cart. I totally understand. I've had friends stab me in the back as well. Would you be willing to sell everything else that's NWC related ? I'd be very interested. It's so cool that you have the videos of where you participated also
So awesome to see. If anyone has the Detroit footage please let me know. I was in the kings chair in my age bracket in the finals, and choked. SMH.
Omg. That is my dad speaking!! Lol
This is TH-cam gold. Thanks so much for uploading this piece of history. It brings back many memories from the Norfolk,VA event that I attended in my youth.
My gosh, why do I shout "Boom, tetris for somebody!" out loud whenever someone in the NWC 1990 makes every tetris? Maybe because CTWC was inspired by NWC 1990...?
Excelent video dude
Top de mais em nossa nostalgia pura
Esports since 1990
Awsome memories. I was 9 when i entered and did not do to good in my region. Nice footage
Do you still have the grey cartridge ? I have been looking for one and would love to purchase it from you if you still have it ?
$20,000
Awesome!
Where you the dude in the leather jacket?
Xeon Core yes that was me
Great footage Jason! We met @ The Game Guyz both at the RGB Lan convention. Great to meet you.
Shut up dude, let me concentrate
The 90's USA! It has got to be the best time to be about 10 years in all earth's history! I was born in 84. I wouldnt mind being born a couple of years earlier, but im not complaining :D Thank you for uploading this!
I was born at the end of 76. So I was a toddler during the 70's, kid during the 80's and teenager during the 90's.
NWC 2017 HYPE
I wish I went to this when I was a kid I was about 10 years old remember it took place only about 10 minutes away from my house
Why you didint go there?
camcorder
I was at this event. I remember feeling so bad for the little kids playing for fun and thinking they were doing good. There would be one minute left to go and you'd see a little kid next to you still on Super Mario Bros fighting the first Bowser in 1-4. At the time I thought my 220k score was impressive :(
A 68 inch TV? Jesus that must have cost a fortune in the 80s. 28:50 kids! We used to call those "pay phones". They were the only way to make calls when you weren't at your house! They were like your iPhone, but stuck to a wall with no internet, powered by coins! Back in the 20th century, long distance phone calls were expensive and water was free!
wow
This video is awesome.
Oh my God… that's me. That's me at 9:40. "A lanky, bespectacled blond, Kenneth was dressed in a Nintendo T-shirt, Nintendo sweatpants and Nintendo hat," the reporter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette wrote the next day. "He waved his arms and bounced on his toes in a manner not unlike Rocky Balboa's." Wow.
Wow fantastic!! Very cool that you found this. If anyone else has footage of this event I would love to see it. Is that article online somewhere ?
Jason Orlando I've scanned a bunch of handouts from the NWC and put them on my blog at www.gamebits.net/tag/nwc/ - as for the T&G article, I'll DM you.
Can you please upload your win in Orlando if you have it? Awesome you got to compete and also mingle with Terry after the show.
They changed the venue to Hollywood, and Thor won there. I misplaced a piece and lined out, Terry calls it out on the official video sent out by Nintendo
I have some footage of the finals but not the main event.. Someone told us they (Nintendo) were filming so my mother stopped filming shortly into it
So that's what Terry meant when he said "Walls come down for Jason Orlando but he's hanging on to an excellent score".
Brian Schwartz Yeah i was actually doing pretty well within the heat -- should have easily made top 7, before I lined out. I was dropping a bar and had a high stack, didn't get the bar all the way to the side and ended up blocking myself off. Had to sit there for like 20 seconds while everyone caught and passed me.
Is that Cliffy B? Lol I never heard anything from about this! You should tweet him and tell him you put this up, this is awesome footage!
Yes that is him
Jason Orlando lol my wife is gonna lose her shit thanks for putting this up man. Hope you're well.
Cliff Bleszinski loveloveloved seeing this! My Clifford! <3 Thanks for posting this Jason.
Yeah, it's really cool more footage of this showed up recently! The multi-cart setup was a great way to test skill. Respect for Mr. B
Cliff Bleszinski Good to hear from you again! Doing well overall, married now with 2 kids and 2 dogs. My wife is a casual gamer and although kids make it harder, we still game when we're able. Currently we mainly play League of Legends. We both choked pretty hard in that final round ;) Related to NWC - There was a actually a situation with my NWC cart which has been a rough spot for me (it was stolen from my dorm in 1993 by a former friend of mine, who then concealed the act for many years). Details on this story may hit a tech blog soon.
Awesome footage! The recent 2015 Championships brought a lot of stuff out of the woodwork. Nice score too! Your age group really broke it down and took it far! I recently uploaded my footage from the Philadelphia Regionals as well, where I got 3rd place and a copy of Mario 3. I thought the 1990 event was far, far better. The multicart was something that was organic and fair from a skill standpoint. The 2015 Finals had invited some speed runners who had literally never played a Wii-U until that week! Not to take anything away from the speed runners skill, but it was hard to watch them fumbling with the Wii-U gamepad, not to mention having a team based section with Splatoon! 2015 came off more as a marketing tool to sell their newest games instead of finding the best gamer. The whole thing should have been Mario Maker or NES Remix imo, it's familiar to everyone and is skill based. Asking someone who isn't familiar with 3d games to beat people who play them constantly is a bad idea and made otherwise incredible gamers look like scrubs. Do you still have your grey cart? I swear I would have given that away as a kid, no one had any idea they'd become so valuable
Mine was stolen by my best friend. Sued him for it after discovering it was he who took it in 2013 (after giving him a chance to return it)
I attended Philly and also made top 7 (12-17) would love to see your Philly footage. I am pretty sure I made 3rd in that age group there.. Were you in a different age group?
+Jason Orlando Did he return it?
Incredibly, No. It's unbelievable what jealousy can do to someone.
Did you no what games where on the cart going into the first event?
lu low and do you still have your grey cart?
Yes, I only owned Tetris on game boy though and I had to trade with someone to get my hands on rad racer.. still there were significant differences between the tourney cart and the games themselves, so the best way to practice was to go to the tournament itself.. Then practice as there as much as you could.
lu low no my grey cart was stolen by a former friend.
I'm interested in NWC 2015... very surprised we don't know what games we'll be playing or any other information when the event is supposedly only a little more than a week away. Feels very rushed in terms of planning.. not sure if it's by design that we won't have any time to practice and prepare, but i'm hoping that's intended rather than that they simply didn't plan it well. Half of me is still thinking the 2015 NWC is a belated April fools.
Smb, smb3, and Dr Mario
you won the golden cartridge?
renato silvestre No i won a gray cartridge for being a finalist.
Jason Orlando what??? That’s like 17 grand!
@@Xaanix73 Wow just saw this. Thanks for posting. I'm the kid int he blue and white stripes around position 12:00. When I made it to the final round of Tetris, I almost got a tetris to solidify the lead right when the buzzer went off. I still can't forget it...
th-cam.com/video/Ub7LiVFJ4_o/w-d-xo.html world record confirmed
Appreciated!
Usually takes around 20 tandems before you can solo, this is of course an average and you may need more or less depending on your learning speed. They will not solo you until you can consistently do everything that is required. I personally took more than 20 i believe (it was over 10 years ago so i don't recall exactly), but part of that was because i didn't do them close together -- i would do a few tandems, then vanish for a year, then come back and do a few more.. then repeat (x4)
How many Tandem flights did you have before your first solo? Does it take a lot of weekends to get to hang II? I live North of Sarasota so Wallaby is within my reach for lessons.
There is _nothing_ like it.
Nice video. I should get up there and learn how to do that.
