In Memory of Jim Murphy
Every year, for nearly two decades, I looked forward to spending a week with my friend Jim Murphy at Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp. Jim was an incredible, rock-solid guitar player who made every other musician he was playing with sound better. While backing up the Southwest and Old-Time tune classes he laid down a groove that helped hundreds of fiddlers learn hundreds of tunes. I wouldn't think of performing a concert without him by my side. And besides his stellar musicianship, Jim was one of the most gracious and generous souls I've ever met. I’ll miss him dearly and will cherish the countless hours we spent together on the hillside, playing tunes, telling stories, and ruminating on the state of the world. This video has a couple of tunes we played together in a concert on August 9, 2013 with a couple of surprise guests.

That about sums it up !!!
Great!
Pretty accurate! Most painful surgery I have ever experienced 😢.
I know Mac Benford for one song with the Woodshed Allstars, the song "Willow". What a great song that is. I uploaded it. It is on O Sister 2.
Miss Vesta grew up around her she played music with my dad when we lived in Mo
Thanks, Larry, for posting this video. What a time machine is this TH-cam. We spent a lot of time playing Bob tunes last year to celebrate the centennial year of his birth. His tune books are still revealing gems. Bob was a master--and this video captures him just right.
So great to hear these tunes and to see the dance again. Our Scandinavian Dancers group in Vancouver, BC has done a Danish version, but it's one we've learned; we do it for a while and then drop it and would have to relearn it to do again. I see on a video from Opera Garnier in Paris that it was created in Dublin in 1818. The Irish roots make it less surprising to me to find it in western Pennsylvania near the Ohio border. I see there are two towns called Independence in PA, the other one north of Pittsburgh, so it's good to have the detailed location description!
Twelve whole minutes of that paint effect, eh?
Miss you, Mac.
oh no!!!
What joy!
Butch
Is this still available?
Where can I find the full performance of the Nat King Cole Killer Diller clip?
It made me smile a lot. Thank you for making the video. It is terrific.
Thanks, Larry--love A.C.
Please tell me it’s worth all this.🙏
Well, I didn’t see many comments on your video, but you got it spot on with how my recovery is going 3 weeks in. I start out so, so in the morning and try a few thumb bends and finger moves, but by the end of the day WHERE’S the pain meds🤬
Yes, great to see this. I have their Marimac CD, and I have met Wayne and jammed with A.C. in Mt. Airy.

Great to see the fine musicians from EASTERN North Carolina recognized! Great fiddle tradition passed down from our Highland Scots ancestors.
Sure miss him

Back Up And Push as a square dance? Wow! Who knew?!
Beautiful tribute to a very nice man!
Wow!
What a joyous ten minutes of living. It makes a wonderful tribute to Byron.
This was when the upright bass sounded acoustic and not now that's its turned to a giant electric fretless bass
Really fine fiddling for anyone, but especially at 90 (her age here in 2012)
wonderful!
Wow, they have so much volume despite having no amp. Never really realize how much I took for granted, I should learn this technique though in case I just wanna pull my bass out the case and jam.
That's one interesting set list
Do you have electric guitar courses after your acoustic classes?
Thank you for posting this! I'm a long way from home now and it's good to look back at such wonderful memories.
Bob was a friend, customer, lived one town away, never failed to have something to say, and was a one in a billion personality who faithfully played at Duke Miller's Friday night dances at the Peterborough Golf Club just up the street from my home. RIP, Bob. NH
Thanks for posting. The SCFF was an annual picnic day treat for the family. Loved the music, the dancing, visiting all the cool booths like House of Musical Traditions, watching the CMU students playing frisbee. It made Pgh seem ultra cool. I had a collection of SCFF T-shirts for every year we went. Now I settle for Hardly Strictly out in San Francisco.
(The second dance sequence is a variant of "Heritage Reel" by Tony Parkes.)
Music is fun!
