Final Fantasy Prelude on Buchla Easel – When Nostalgia Calls :-)
The Prelude (Crystal Theme) by Nobuo Uematsu - Buchla Easel Performance
This is my recreation of Nobuo Uematsu's iconic "The Prelude" from Final Fantasy, performed on the Buchla Easel synthesizer. While I overdubbed three separate performances to achieve the layered sound, you'll only see one of them in this video.
Buchla enthusiasts, don't worry-I know the Buchla Easel isn’t usually used like this… but nostalgia called, and I had to answer! 😄
🎵 Audio Notes:
The three performances were recorded individually and mixed together to capture the overlapping arpeggios and melodies that define The Prelude.
Thank you for watching! If you enjoyed this, please like, comment, and subscribe. 🎶

Exploring Euclidean Patterns with the Buchla Easel: Manually Shifting Accents (Because Why Not?)

Ever wondered what happens when start shifting Euclidean patterns manually on a Buchla Easel? Probably not, and probably the world does not need this demonstration, but here we are! Anyway, let me know what you think! :-)
Frank Zappa "The Black Page" Piano-Remix
มุมมอง 33516 วันที่ผ่านมา
Frank Zappa’s "The Black Page" is famously known as one of the most complex and challenging compositions from Frank Zappa and in Jazz? It was written as a drum solo before being expanded into a full instrumental piece. In this video, I present my interpretation of "The Black Page" for 3 player pianos, incorporating piano preparations for added textures. I hope you enjoy this take on The Black P...
Polyrhythmic Circles: 5 against 4, 30-Tuplets and other Overlays in Extreme MIDI
มุมมอง 24320 วันที่ผ่านมา
Using the circular visual motifs in the piano roll to represent overlapping rhythms. Starting from simple to complex, reaching extreme 30-tuplets (=pitch). This work connects with the traditions of Black MIDI and MIDI Art, and is visualized through Ableton’s piano roll, MIDI Trail, and Synthesia- and eventually causes these tools to struggle in rendering the full visual impact. I know, it's pos...
Buchla Easel Improvisation 3 | Experimental "Sample & Hold" Patch with Random Voltage Control
มุมมอง 10820 วันที่ผ่านมา
Found this interesting patch on the Buchla Easel where I explore a "stop-and-go" approach to sequencing. Using a combination of random voltage control and Sample & Hold, I manually trigger the settings of the Easel, creating a generative, evolving sequence that halts unpredictably. This process plays with the concept of how random voltages are generated and frozen, adding a playful, dynamic ele...

Buchla Waves
มุมมอง 2.1K25 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this improvisation, I’m experimenting with the Buchla Easel to play a tuned pitch sequence, while using Ableton to trigger bass notes. There’s no keyboard involved-I'm manually triggering the notes from the computer while the Buchla sequences the melody. It’s an interesting combination of manually / cv-tuned pitches from the sequencer and MIDI-controlled / digital tuning for the bass notes f...

Gender Symbols MIDI Visualization

In this project, a series of gender and sexual identity symbols have been transferred into MIDI, visualized in the piano roll, and played within a 19-equal division of the octave virtual piano sound. As the symbols shift and change, so do the sounds. Trigger Warning: Sensitive Content This project includes symbols related to gender and sexual identities, which may evoke strong emotional reactio...

MIDI Remix of Aphex Twin's "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" 🎹🎶 This is a little experiment I did in the studio, exploring the possibilities of combining traditional acoustic instruments with modern electronic techniques. hell yes, this is awesome. Don't apologize for using it however you want to use it!!
so frocking good
afecs pianist
want this one so bad hope behringer launches the enigma soon will be the closest i"'ll get
It does sound like Zappa, doesn't it?
Nice! I'd like to try to replicate (part of) that using an easel vst I've been trying to grasp for long (though the trying/failing has been confusing fun), how would I go about? Is there a part of this sequence in which the bass notes form the DAW are heard just by themselves? Does that trigger-track evolve or does it stay the same essentially? A low c on every 1/5?
Thanks for the comment! Glad you're enjoying the video and diving into sound design! 😊 If you're using an easel VST, replicating this might be a bit of a challenge, but it sounds like a fun experiment. To your question: You should probably connect a keyboard and see if you can come up with a good bass line / bass vamp to begin with…
It is a beautiful thing 👏 like, Liquid droplets from Heaven
love afx this is so cool would love to see "making of" for this
Amazing, one of my favorite easel command videos. Impressive how interesting you keep the whole song ❤
yeah this proves Richard is the reincarnation of John Cage
black midi indeed
You have long fingers
best comment so far :-)
erm... this is pretty crazy
wonderful!🔥
Jean Michel jarre needs to market his matrisequencer.
silly noisies
hehe beep boop
good stuff
Excellent improvisation
Most execellent! Added to the playlist.🔥
I’ll never afford a buchla anything and it’s videos like this that make me really sad about that.
Build your own!
@ I had a modular system at one point in time but then sold it.
I dream of a world where you have this level of sound design on a performance that's more than just a 3 second midi loop
thanks for your comment, good point to think about more complex structures. Here it is not a MIDI-loop, as the pitches are cv-controlled and being controlled by the 5-step sequencer, which is the limitation of the instrument...
@1024-MIDI It would probably be like 20 thousand dollars, but I'd love to see a twiddly modular sound design based synth combined with the performance oriented sensibilities of an arranger keyboard
holy shit this is so cool
Solid sketch. You have me really wanting one
peak
holy shit this rules
This is incredible. Like goddamn. I want one!!!!
Enjoyed that !
cool jam!
really amazing!!!!

I have been chuckling at this comment and video for so long now.
Incredible!!!
This is geniunely incredible, great job
fascinating cool stuff
mindblowing...
This is a banger, AFX covers always are
When the lower notes kick in around the 5 second mark it sounds like a sped up version of Prep Gwarek 36
:-) love that one as well
good sheet
nice!
