Top 20 OO Gauge Layouts of 2024
In this video we will look at the OO gauge layouts. The plan was for me to have a top 10 of each scale, however, with the many extremely well made and operated layouts on the exhibition circuit this year, narrowing it down to 10 was virtually impossible, so for this top 10, its actually 20....and a few honorable mentions as well.
Before we begin making our way through the layouts, I want to personally thank all of the exhibitors and exhibition organisers who without their efforts, this channel would not exist. It has been a privilege to film your layouts over the last year and I very much look forward to more of the same in 2025. This will include me travelling further afield next year and filming new layouts which haven’t appeared on the channel before as well as exhibiting layouts of my own.
Layouts in order of appearance;
20 - BSC Orgreave
19 - East Quay
18 - Shepherdswell
17 - Thompson Street/Kelvin Grove
16 - Bigbury-on-Sea
15 - Wilford Road
14 - Rossiter Rise
13 - Carterton
12 - Daisy Lane TMD
11 - Rails Through Histon
10 - Redbridge Wharf
9 - Charwelton
8 - Eastgate Harbour
7 - Trinity Dock Street Bridge
6 - Wimborne
5 - Providence Colliery
4 - Old Parrock
Honorable Mentions - Kinmundy, Ashdan Junction, Morfrail, No Place, North Bridge
3 - Kirkby Stephen West
2 - Southgate Park
1 - Wickham Market

A great selection; although I model N Gauge, I always look at all gauges at exhibitions for ideas and cameo scenes. Looking forward to seeing your N Gauge selection! Happy New Year to all.
Thanks, I'm hoping to have the N gauge video up by the weekend. Happy new year to you too
Brilliant video of various British railways and not some American crap as I unfortunately find there very bland as well as very boring indeed no structure just an old useless make shift town not to keen on European railways either being English and growing up with English heritage railways that's all I've ever been interested in hopefully I've not touched on a nerve of anyone if so I sincerely apologise
Excellent.layouts and operated at realistic speeds..........at last 11
Fantastic selection of layouts
Amazing little railway. Enjoyed the upload Thank you 👍
a Nice selection. Well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks. Already subscribed and enjoying. Please keep up this year. Regards Howard. Happy new year.
Thank you, plenty of content to come, will be announcing some more in the coming days
Thank you for including Rossiter Rise
No problem!
Good looking little layout 👍
@@ErimusMicroRailway thank you
Looking good Steve 👍
Thanks, it's very messy atm, covered in sculptamold. Looks a bit like Monika Lewinskis dress...
I would be absolutely fuming.
It's ok I had another camera on the other side. Thankfully in the 15 years or so I've been filming mainline, this was the first time that I was proper bowled. Had more than a few close calls though!
@ i once missed a steam at my local (happens not even 1 time every 2 years ) and it was 15 minutes early. It passed as I was about to get into the platform
Any chance you could do some videos of your narrow gauge layout
@@thomasmills6427 that section wasn't working on my visit sadly
Saw this and before you spoke I thought Christmas Diorama. Great minds . . . . With regard to the little shed, I would suggest gangers hut or lamp store. Signalman's toilet is at the top of the stairs, with internal door. Some great ideas coming together. 👍👍👍
@@robertbate5790 thanks, I wasn't sure where or if there was a toilet within the box and did wonder if it was that box. In that case my thinking is since it's a modern day preserved railway, (and not sure how the plumbing would work!) they don't use that toilet but instead have one in the lamp hut/stores. I've spent the evening looking at loads of old photos of boxes trying to picture how I'm going to do the area around the box. The signal has already moved to the other side of the box as I have a water crane on the platform and the visibility of it is better. Nothing has been simple with this! 😆
@SHGPMedia You are welcome. Plumbing was internal too generally. Yes, signals need a good line of sight, but at least the track is straight, lol 🤣. You have some great ideas, I'm sure all will be well 👍👍👍
Hi ! I've some questions: (1) Was this the very 1st lasercut model you had been assembling ? For me it'll be the case ... (2) What kind of tools is your recommendation at the least minimum in terms of tools ? (3) Is that some card board glue you had been using ? Or something special ? (4) When seeing the effort on assembling the kettle, frame and such my idea was to start with the tender. But from your written comments it looks like the same complexity as the engien part, right ? Thanks, Reinhard
Hello there. Yes it was the first one of these i've made. I recommend a sharp knife and good wood or PVA glue, I used rocket card glue. I used some clamps during my build to make life easier holding things together. Be very careful though not to apply too much pressure when locating parts together, they tend to snap easily. I just followed the workflow in the instructions. The tender and loco are effectively two separate builds so wont matter what order you do them in really.
Looking good mate hope you had a good Christmas, looking forward to seeing more as lm doing a small self layout myself all the best Colin from Mossend railway oo.
À quelques détails près, c'est exactement le style de réseau que j'aimerais reproduire. Bravo et merci du partage.😊
❤❤❤
Seeing his amazing layout off his channel is rather neat. And I do see that they have linked to Laurie's channel. Quite the brilliant layout he is constructing and its quite amazing what he has done in N gauge 2mm filescale.
Sad to see it go. it has been demolished .(probably due to greed.)
The creator of the layout Laurie Adams has his own channel with other videos of the layout, youtube.com/@laurieadams8538?si=PtXUT4z5LPrke8GK
Can you tell / show us how you converted the tractor unit please 👍
I can describe how they've done it, it's not mine, I just film layout videos. It works like a fairground graber machine and runs on rails underneath. There's a magnet under the board which moves the tractor around. It really is very impressive. There's also an automated rotating fiddle yard at the other end which is another fantastic piece of engineering. When I'm over there again I'll ask if I can get some footage of how it works
He has some other videos here. youtube.com/@laurieadams8538?si=PtXUT4z5LPrke8GK
Nice one Steve. A Merry Christmas to you too and Best Wishes for the New Year! Cheers!
Thanks mate, same to you
Great video Steve, merry Christmas to you and your family 🎉
and to all of you too mate
Absolutely amazing work. Having started using code40 rail on my own layout build I can really appreciate what’s gone into that beautiful track work let alone other layout details you have like that amazing tractor.
That shunter tractor would be incredible in 00 gauge, but in N... 🤯
Looks great very accurate to my local heritage railway. Good job
Great job. On to the next stage!
Wonderful looking layout l love to see old stock still running a man after my own heart 😊 have a good Christmas mate all the best Colin from Mossend railway oo.
Really nice representation of an ex GE station. Would I be right in thinking that most of the down traffic went to Lowestoft?
Coming along Steve
@@danielbonham9336 thanks mate
I saw it in Birmingham in 2023, I was a bit surprised the two levels were not connected and the trains were just tail chasing. Having been brought up on Mike Polglaze`s Via Mala , Bimblenahn, etc, they were all multi levels but ay least trains went up and down.
Excellent layout
Great to see a 442! My favourite 3rd rail train. Would like one on my BR Southern layout in NZ. Have all the other BR (SR) EMU’s!
Attention to detail is just amazing. - @01:26 Dialogue in background, pull up a sandbag & swing a lantern: 'I'm a cold war hero' - please, if this was you, define just what you did that makes you so. Now, a real Cold War Hero is Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov. He was a Lieutenant Colonel of the Soviet Air Defence Forces who played a key role in the 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident. Without his interjection and teh preventative measures he took; WW3 would have started.
There is so much to film in this one!!! Thank you so much for your video.
This was the inspiration for my 009 gauge layout.
Nice to see the Dancer in the Dark Nohab.
Very well done winter/military scene!
Beautiful 🤩
Ive had many hours growing up with this layout, its a shame i don't get much time to enjoy it these days
I really enjoyed this video and hearing Michael's reminiscences. Many's the times I've spent hearing of the past from people such as he, and it's always rewarding. Thirty years ago someone told me of a conversation he had had with an elderly chap who was a child during WW1 and painted a verbal picture of the local town at that time which gave me a whole new perspective.
A thoroughly enjoyable interview. The gentleman has an interesting tale to tell. And a museum of his modelling life as well. I love his simple enthusiasm for his modelling inspired by all the places he has been. I live in sight of Coleshill currently on the opposite side of HS2/M6. His memory and photos of Snow Hill also resonate with my childhood. I grew up near Solihull, on the line to Leamington Spa. As a one time railway man I also managed one unofficial cab ride, from New Street to York. Very educational, I might add. Thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
What an amazing video. 👍👍
Thanks mate
Fantastic. I live in Colwyn bay and this goods yard is now where the bay view shopping centre is.
All that excellent detail but please can you put crew on board!
you'd have to ask them, I just filmed a video....
What a nice layout! My favourite era too. The sound works well but is particularly effective on the 37s.
Reminds me of Water Orton, amazing layout. Great for watching the big trains go by!👍
Another good quality layout at this exhibition. Well done to the show organiser and the club for putting this exhibition on for all of us.
