    Even with the less than perfect audio I really enjoyed this presentation. They did a great job. When high school teachers, counselors, and administrators look down on the trades they helped create the problem we have today. And the problem started at least 50 years ago I believe. I'm an old guy now but If I had it to do over I would go to trade school. Counseling is so important.

    Sheldon Wiebe Engineering has the privilege to provide to you customized shop drawings and Microvellum products ready for production at competitive prices and quality. How it works: 1. You provide the project architectural drawings with all the necessary finishes, material sizes and specifications, hardware, company standards and Microvellum files needed. 2. I provide you an estimate with terms. 3. You sign the estimate, pay a deposit with a check, ACH or credit card. 4. Once I receive my deposit, I begin working. 5. Once I am finished I send you a pdf of the drawing to review. 6. You markup revisions on the pdf and send it back to me. 7. I make revisions and send you production files if specified. How are we different from other drafting services? I communicate timely with you or your project manager and engineering team prior to starting a project to ensure your standards are aligned within Microvellum and things flow smoothly into production. I will work with you throughout the process so that your goals are met. Why choose me? I have worked extensively with multiple millwork companies. From RTA solutions and kitchens to custom reception desks and ceiling features. I have the knowledge to determine not only the quickest engineering solutions, but also the most cost effective and best looking details. Sheldon Wiebe Engineering

    I'm an electrician in CT. Most of us are scheduled out for two months. It's bad and going to get worse. Tradesmen seem to be looked down on by a pretty large percentage of the population.

    The real reason we don't have a lot of younger people going into the trades as I understand it. High schools took out shop classes Why? Not sure could have been becuse of liability insurance. It only takes a second to change focus running power tools to get hurt. Maybe it was a lack of teachers in the fields. My kids 20 years ago were learing on the same tools I used in Jr high school and high school. Most of the school districs took out shop classes. So when kids graduate they either flip burgers, go to work with family. Go off to collage or do some kind of office job and look out the window all day. Its important to teach kids how to run power tools and work with there hands and later on in the trades heads. If not for a job, but to work safly at home. Its also a good idea to train inner city kids with skills they can earn a good living at. Its not just the trades for house building its a lot of manfacturing jobs also. This is what happens when you outsource an entire workforce. Letting bussines move over seas has caused this becuse you dont know what your future will bring. Now they are even outsourcing office jobs. We will always need skilled tradesmen.

    I’m a 100 % disabled vet. I can’t work. But I have a woodshop and like to build small projects. I.e. bandsaw boxes, boxes, things like that. Would love to see more in-depth video’s on how to do that stuff. To many makers skip the actual part of showing all the steps on how to do it. They skip a lot of steps in the videos. Norm? It’s an honor to see you again, would like to see more of you in the shop. Please keep it real, most of us can’t afford stuff like Festool.

      Michael, if you don’t have a lathe, I strongly recommend you get one - even a used small one. I too am a 100% disable vet and I make a great side business making new and replacement tool handles etc. Wood scraps become treasures with a little imagination. Good luck.

    Norm started in the early 70s. It was a different world. After WWII a lot of guys came out of service and used their GI Bill benefits to go to trade school. When they finished they got union gigs where they made a living wage with benefits. This continued through the 70s. Then came the Reagan Revolution. Reagan busted the unions, and kids had to pay for school out of their own pockets...even trade school. Add to that a change in the mindset of native born Americans that blue collar work is for losers, and here we are. It's not going to get fixed anytime soon, if ever.

    • @Guruplace
      @Guruplace 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Union still there, problem is kids want everything for nothing.

    • @MrSloika
      @MrSloika 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Guruplace Sure. Tell these kids they have to drop a lot of coin to get training. They likely will not have that money, nor will their parents be able to provide it for them, so they have to borrow it. They will be on the hook for that money whether or not they can complete their training, or get a gig after being trained, or make enough money to live even if they do find a job. Meanwhile contractors prefer to hire guys who jumped off the banana boat yesterday because they'll work for slave wages. Gee, I can't imagine why any native born kids don't jump at such a good deal????

    • @Guruplace
      @Guruplace 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was trained free in the union as well as anyone who isn't lazy and wants to join. After becoming a journeyman, you can work just about anywhere in whichever trade learned.

      @@Guruplace Lately this has been my experience also, sorry to say. Not every case, but so many show up with a can't do attitude. I'm hearing it from all the trades. On the plus side a broken down old carpenter like me can stay busy.
