Winter Firewood Prep for Tiny RV Stoves - The Ultimate Guide
We are getting ready for winter. We live full-time in our sheep camp. Luckily, we have a 5K Dwarf stove from Tiny Wood Stove to keep the winter chill at bay. It is time to start prepping small batches of firewood for our tiny wood stove. The quickest and most convenient method for me is to use my old Makita chop saw to cut bundled firewood to length.

If you are in this area of Texas, you must stay at this RV park! We are biased, but the Round Top RV Park is the best in this part of Texas. We have stayed at this RV park many times. We booked an overnight stay at the "Getaway RV Park" in Stephenville, Texas. This RV Park was different from what we expected! The website was very deceptive, presenting an idyllic RV destination. Is it okay to have soap if you dump into a regular septic system in a rural area?
We have been using your technique for the last 3.5 years with perfect results! Thank you!!
Good video thank you
Yay. Can’t wait for cooler weather!
We have snow in the forecast this weekend!
So, if I do not have Ice, then how much just water , would I add ??
I always keep 2-3 gallons of water in my black tank and 1-2 gallons in my gray tank after dumping. I am sure there are various recommendations. These are just my preferences. That said, I am always listening to other options and happy to learn a better approach!
A better idea is to just get rid of the sewer! Go with a high quality compost toilet that has urine separation. And make sure that the toilet is separating the female’s urine that uses the toilet females pee in many directions so make sure the toilet you buy will divert from any direction
I hear borax does the same thing
Exactly, Borax can be used as a substitute for Calvin. Thanks for watching!
You guys sure know how to enjoy RV Life! Thanks for taking us along on this most excellent adventure! Wow, unexpectedly passing by that close to that buffalo meal, Yikes! We sure miss you guys and can't wait until you visit our neck of the woods! 👊😎

So many methods so many no good some ok few are great. For myself I put a quart/litre of regular yogurt and powder up a bunch of digestive enzyme pills and add to the blackwater tank at the beginning of each camping trip and anytime its emptied. When done camping I make sure the tank is 3/4 full and drive away. Once nearer home or after a few hrs of driving I find a dump station and drain the tank then fill 3/4 full of water and drive again allowing the sloshing to rinse. Some dishsoap at this time seems to help with the rinse. The yogurt and enzymes over the 2wk camping trip seems to keep solids/paper dissolved and getting a good empty is easy.. for me this works awesome..
Very interesting! Thank you for the input and sharing what works for your rig. Thank you for watching!
How are yall liking the camp? Any maintenance required?
So happy to have you guys in our community! And that cold plunge was definitely VERY cold 🥶
How much water should I have in the black tank when I add the Dawn?
I usually add a couple of gallons of water along with the Dawn liquid detergent. Thank you for watching!
Very good video thank you
Thank you. New to me.

When I say stop, good,,,,dont put the truck in park and let off the brake,,,it gooda rock……

Is that Big Red 3.0? BTW I have been to both Monticello and Madison’s home. Next door is about 3 miles 😂😂😂 - biologistjim
Yes, that is Big Red 3.0 (unfortunately 🤣.) We've been to Monticello and Madison's home as well. I think Beth was trying to trigger a memory for me!
Also maybe a series of what it’s like living out of the Peak Mountain Camp. More footage of the camper. Thanks
Funny you mention this series! Beth and I have been living full time in our camp for the last three years. She was just talking about a series showcasing livining in a camp.
Can you do a series of your tow vehicle and how it performs with the Peak Mountain Camp. Do you use a weight distribution system, etc.
Absolutely we can do a series on our tow vehicle and how it works with the camp. We have first hand experience with this very issue on the return trip from our last Texas visit.
Very nice very nice. Good video thank you.
Thank you!
I’ve been importing borax with the Dawn What do you think of that?
Works like a charm
How does the Calgon help?
Calgon is a water softener. It keeps the water "slippery" preventing things from sticking together or on the holding tank walls. Thanks for watching!
@@CampLibertyRVremember the old commercial jingle…calgon take me away!
Classic. Thanks for sharing
What if ur not moving camper!
I’d add a mobile office to a camp build.
We’d also know how much it cost to build Liberty. Thanks
What was the cost of your build
Great question! Our camp is a 2019 model and has had a number of upgrades. If you are curious about current pricing give Dave Wheeler (435-462-7325) a call and he can give you ballpark prices for the current line of models. How do I get prices?
Great question! I apologize for the delay responding, we are working on our ranch. The guys at Peak Mountain Camps are super helpful and friendly. Just give them a call for specific questions. Camps are custom built (layout & material selection) so prices vary. I am sure they can give you some concrete ideas if you contact them. Going to try this. Thankyou!
Let us know how it works for you! Thank you for watching!
I have watched many Peak Mountain Camp videos but never heard them mention the air conditioner option. I was wondering if they even offered it until I watched your video. I especially love the decor you've selected.
Ellis, thank you so much for watching and for the kind words about our camp's decor. Yes, Peak Mountain Camps @peakmountaincamps does offer the air conditioning option. If someone orders a camp without an air conditioner, Weston preps the camp for future air conditioner installation. That way, if someone changes their mind later, they can easily add an air conditioner unit. We love being able to cool down the camp on a hot summer day!
Is Is there anything in a Bind to use as a substitute for calgon?
Great question! You can use Borax. Best to mix with water first as the powder tends to form a hard solid that can be difficult to get down the drain. So, Dawn and Borax are a good combination. That is my backup if we run out of "Unique Digest-It Tank Cleaner." We switched to Unique products almost a year ago and are pretty pleased. We have no affiliation but can confidently recommend their products (Digest-It, Bowl Cleaner, and silicone toilet brush). Hope that helps! Wishing you happy and safe RV adventures!
I like the Calgon addition. I am going to have to try this.
Calgon is quite useful, just a bit hard to find sometimes! Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for answering our RV questions, David and Beth! You've saved us so many mistakes and problems for sure. You guys are the best! We love you!! ❤
Thank you guys!! We appreciate the kind words and support. Sending love back in your direction. Wishing you happy and safe RV adventures! 👍🏻

The best way to get rid of the smell is to replace the black tank vent with the one that turns with the wind and it vents out the back of the vent, never had any smell sense
Great advice, thanks for watching!
Awesome! Needed this tip! Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching!
I saw a video of a guy who explains how this works. HIS method, and he explains it scientifically, is Dawn, Calgon and 20 Mule team Borax. The Calgon is used to put a film on the walls of your tank, to prevent things from sticking to the walls, where the Borax and Dawn do the rest. I personally, don't do the Calgon. I do the Borax and Dawn and it works great! No odors, no fruity, flowery, chemical smells at all, none! I will be adding the Calgon to my treatments going forward. Also, I don't use 3/4 cup. I do about 1/4 cup Dawn, and about 1 cup of Borax....Either way, it's cheap and it works!
Awesome! Glad this method is working for you. Thanks so much for watching. Safe RV travels!
We started doing this too after seeing Chad on Changing Lanes suggested it.
I used pinesol and 20 mule team borax for 20 years, worked very well.
How does that BORAX DO IN A SEPTIC SYSTEM ???.
On our first outing we stayed a couple of nights at a Thousand Trails Park in Williamsburg Virginia. It was like you said. People had been parked there for a decade. The park was in terrible shape. The management apologized for nothing being in good shape. We did tough it out though for a couple of nights, but we would never go back. My wife and I have a Class A diesel pusher. It would have been nice if you had shown some of the park. So where did you stay the night? I just found your channel and subscribed.
Wow, the timing soon your comment is fantastic. We are in Central Oregon until our next road trip. Today, we were exploring and took a quick look at the Bend / Sunriver Thousand Trails Park. This was the first TTP that we have come across. Honestly, we were not impressed and certainly would not consider a membership. This area was plagued by parks with deceptive websites. We finally settled on our third choice. We were pretty frustrated, and unfortunately, I fell behind on my video recording duties of both the Gateway RV Park and the other three we looked at before settling in for the night. I would share the final location, except our trip log book was lost when our truck was stolen on this trip (video to follow.) Thank you so much for the sub! We are trying to grow our channel. Every comment, thumbs up, and subscription is super exciting for us and helpful with TH-cam.
@@CampLibertyRV Wishing you all the best.
Camp????.....you mean your trailer...or rv! Let's not recreate the wheel!
@paula.2422 - Thanks so much for watching! Actually, I do mean "camp". That is what this type of trailer/RV is referred to in the community of people who use and enjoy them. I agree; let's not recreate the wheel. In this case, the wheel is pretty well established. Cheers!
But.. um.. those are literally chemicals. I'm OK not using say, "Bleach" but those products have more "chemicals" than that, by far. Ingredients in your mix....: Methylchloroisothiazolinone Methylisothiazolinone Sodium Acrylic Acid Sodium Citrate SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE C10-16 ALKYLDIME-THYLAMINE OXIDE PPG-26 SODIUM HYDROXIDE SODIUM CHLORIDE PHENOXYETHANOL PEI-14 PEG-24/PPG-16 COPOLYMER METHYLISOTHIAZO-LINONE C9-11 PARETH-8 STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER TETRASODIUM GLUTAMATE DIACETATE CHLOROXYLENOL PHENOXY-ISOPROPANOL SODIUM CUMENE-SULFONATE TERPINEOL And glycols. You need to get it through your head that everything is a chemical. Not all are bad.
Good on you! I agree; they are indeed chemicals. I probably should have said, "Not typical RV holding tank chemicals." I am sharing something that was working for us in case it may be helpful to someone else. Thank you so much for watching!
Agree with the Calgon and Dawn solution but putting ice down the toilet is almost worthless. I floats so if the ice does anything it might scrap the sides only where the ice is floating. There was a video demo on ice in a black tank, the tank was placed into a bed of a pickup truck and the truck was driven like MAD Max and with a video camera on the tank the water and ice was barely moving. SO a RV going down the road with ice in the tank would do very little. The worse thing for a blacks tank is not having enough water in the tank after flushing and the poop hits the bottom of tank and sticks. ALways keep 10-15 gallons of water in your black tank after dumping. The more the water the better.
Good point. When putting ice in our black tank after dumping and putting in Dawn and Calgon, I only put the ice in without water, knowing the ice would melt as we slouched down the road. Thanks so much for watching. Happy RV travels!
This I've Also researched this and says not to do it
