Lindow Moss, Wilmslow, Manchester. The company was originally called Middlebrook Mushrooms then finally Wilmslow Peat Farm. In June 1992, it was one of the first true industrial narrow gauge railways that I had filmed. Sadly the Hi8 video equipment in those days for the enthusiastic amateur was woefully inadequate. The 2ft gauge railway trundled on for another 8 years after this before finally ...
Springfield Agricultural Railway - Diema DS12
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
With the cold weather and frosts in 2021 right into late spring, because of the water cooled engine, the Diema was not prepared for use until the end of May. Once the loco was given a clean-up and the radiator was filled, it was taken for it's first test run halfway along the line. It's always pleasing to hear the sound of the original single cylinder engine in the loco.

The 600mm gauge peat works railway located just outside the small village of Essern, Germany, closed in approx 2001. Since then a preserved operation has operated on most of the route. This video was taken in June 1996 when it was still in industrial operation. It was a delightful roadside railway in a rural location.

      We actually now have a couple of hetitage tractors, but if we used them through the wet winter months for moving the muck back and forwards on a trailer, then it would make a real mess of the fields. This way there is no impact at all.

    It seems to run very smooth! I’ve operated its little brother at a museum as a kid, I think it was a DL6. It had a gear lever instead of a wheel and going from 2nd to 3rd gear was pretty tough. You really had to listen to the engine and the gearbox to get it right… But this thing seems to operate much smoother, it looks great and it sounds awesome!

    Hello! Could you tell me, how this train works? I mean, the big wheel controls the gearbox, and it have [N, 1, 2, 3] speeds. But what is the control you switch at 0:59? There is a label on the gearbox is " Z<->V ". What you switch at 3:40? I would like to know these, because I working on a PC game and I would like to create a train similar to Diema DS 12. I hope you could answer my questions and thank you! Have a nice day!

    • @thomskutube

      Gbrlk - the lever thrown at 0:59 is the direction lever, either forward or back (Vorwart oder Zuruck). The weighted lever on the back of the cab puts on the brakes. Hope that helps. Steve

    • @davidnightingale2260
      @davidnightingale2260 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would evaporate water from a slurry to make crystals in big steel pans, then the chunks would be processed. The trucks would be tipped in to an elevator that would take the crystals to the top of the grading plant.

    this is an exceptional achievement. we have a farm and i have often thought about trying to build a narrow gauge railway. however, we also have a quad bike. would you say a narrow gauge railway such as yours possesses any advantages over a quad bike? thank you.

    • @Hugofreddie
      @Hugofreddie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are issues with both . A quad bike will pull a smaller load and is more flexible in the short term however in the winter and over wet ground the railway will be less damaging and less likely to get bogged in mud as long as the rails are kept clean and the ballast is good . The railway excels at heavy loads and an elevated section near the heap would allow tippling of the wagons . An interesting area to look at is the monorail which was developed a few years ago for site and agricultural use . Though I haven't seen one in a while

  • @Hugofreddie

    These points are quite typical on these lightly laid peat tracks as they are moved so often . The sanding happens because the ovens cannot keep the sand dry enough to stop blocking the sanders so its as easy to use a bucket . At least then you get sand . These trains are often suprisingly heavy
