Lovely work.
Thanks so much
Platter looks great but I think a respirator mask is needed.....there is a ton of dust visible in the air after you stop the lathe. Wood dust is terrible for lungs (causes interstitial lung disease and is associated with lung cancer development). Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. And I agree about the mask. It is something I want to get however, the one I want is very expensive of course I could use an inexpensive one in the meantime, but just haven’t done so yet. Maybe if a company watching my video sells those they’d be willing to send me one out, lol. Either way, thank you for your feedback and I appreciate your comment.
Great demo!
Thank you
Wonderful guidance. Terrific tip. Thanks.
Your welcome
Thank you
Yep. I know what you are saying. Thanks
I have a GO-766 that I've had for several years with no problems. I've turned over 300 bowls and love every minute I get to spend on it. I don't use adapters, its an 1 1/4 x 8 thread so I look for a chuck that size. I did buy the Easy Core system by Oneway and it Powers through with the 18" knife with no problem. Setting up a Vacuum Chuck is easy too.
I have the coring system on a dedicated lathe so it can stay set up, but your correct the grizzly can handle it no problem as well. It is a great lathe for the price for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience with yours.
Good morning 🌅, that is a great looking 👀 machine, I am retired English dude living in France, I some bits and pieces from ONEWAY , I am hoping to get the coring system, next year, with the Hunter cutter , one of my lathes is very old, WADKIN RS8 , I have rebuilt it, with inverter drive, and I have a MCN KONTOR MACHINE 1500 A , back in 1998/9/2000, I had a contact to make literally thousands of Salt and pepper Mills I look forward to seeing some more from you channel, France,
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Yes it’s a great lathe and we have the coring system as well. I will do a video on that in the future. And as far as older lathes , it does not matter if it gets the job done it’s a good lathe in my book.
Awesome lathe, what more can one say!
Ya it’s a great lathe for sure, thanks for commenting
You had much better luck than I did. I ended up sending back two. So many trips, In fact, that the UPS freight people knew me by name when I walked in.
Wow, that sucks. What was the issues you were having?
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv the first lathe had an out of round spindle. I had to crate the power head and send it back. (two more trips to UPS). When it came back the spindle kept loosening up. I bought a spanner wrench, but it would not stay tight no matter what I did. They offered to take it back and either just refund me or send me another. I thought it was a lathe with a lot of bang for the buck, so I tried another. They assured me that they would bench test it. So I crated up the old lathe and sent it back. (another trip to UPS) I picked up the new one (another... well you know) and set it up. The only thing that was disturbed in the crate was the cord. Apparently "bench testing" was opeing the crate pulling out the cord and plugging it in. I set it up and turned a small bowl. When I took off the chuck the spindle was almost too hot to touch. In my experience that says bad bearing. I called them and they told me that they tested it and if I sent it back and there was "nothing wrong" they would not refund my shipping charge. I borrowed a Flir IR camera from work. I tested it and it went from room temp to 120 F in 10 minutes with no load on it. Just the spindle turning. I crated it up and yet another trip to UPS. They refused to refund my shipping charges. I complained to the NC Attorney Generals office. The day I got an email saying they were investigating I got a call from Grizzly saying "it was a big mistake" and refunded the money. So..... That is my Grizzly experience. So I bought a Lagima 1836 and had great luck. Then several things went my way and I was able to buy a Robust American Beauty. I still have my Laguna and use both lathes.
@ wow, that certainly sucks. Sorry you had that experience. I would’ve been very angry and frustrated as I’m sure you were. I’m happy I have not had that issue. I also also have the smaller version of the Grizzly Lathe as well. One step down from the one in this video, it has not turned as much, but still no troubles with that one either. I guess I got lucky or you got very unlucky.
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv Yea. I have seen lots of people happy. I am glad it has worked out for you! Things did work out in the end.
Nicely done sir
Thanks so much
Nice work
Thank you
How long does this take?
Between 15 minutes and a half an hour depending on how big the bowl is. It takes much longer once they dry to do the finishing part.
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv it takes longer when it's dry because the wood gets harder?
@@Chief667 Sometimes that is the case. but it also has to do with the care it takes to really do a good job for the finish. When you rough it out to dry it is not nearly as important to make it perfect as you will be turning that away after it dries. Thanks for the question.
@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv thank you for the answers!
@ no problem thank you for watching the videos
Where can i find how to buy it
I can’t remember specifically where we got it. I will find out and let you know, but it was online somewhere.
Ok thanks I found it once but lost the link.
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv any luck in finding out who makes it or what it is called? I have searched everything I can think of and no luck.
@ same here can’t find it again and no info on it, I’ll keep looking.
Thanks. I appreciate your help. I know I had it one time. I think I saw another youtube video that talked about it. Of course I cant find that video. Lol. Thanks again. It cost $170. I remember that.
What aftermarket tool rest are you using for this lathe banjo?
Robust comfort rest 12” wide
nice vid!!
Thank you
How's it holding up?? Any issues?
I work it pretty hard several days a week and so far no issues. Thanks for the question and comment
Impressive video, See The Wood Turn. Looking forward to seeing your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! The techniques you shared for ensuring the bowl doesn't crack during the drying process were really helpful. What are some best practices for maintaining moisture levels while the piece is drying?
I will be doing more videos on this topic
Супер 👍
And why Ami only just learning this now. Every workshop I've worked at never had thst
Well, that’s a good question, lol. I will tell you we have a couple other sharpening stations that do kinda stay static as far as the positioning however, this is the one that gets used the most because there’s three of us two of us use it a lot and we can just walk over throw it in the number we want sharpen our tool and walk away. You don’t have to take the time to adjust the table, so it’s much faster and much more efficient. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
What do you say about the both lathes, 6 months on turning?
Well, they’ve been used extensively, especially the 7066 model and I like it a lot. No issues whatsoever. The only thing I would’ve done different which I don’t think is available through Grizzly is even a larger swing model, but we have a big one-way in here as well. However, the Grizzly with the outboard extension table, I can turn very large pieces.
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv Great to know it,! Thanks!
Thankfully those crazy ass americans also have 360° in one rotiation😂
Thats actually sweet!
Yes, it is, it works fantastic, especially when there’s more than one person using it
Nice
That's beautiful!! ❤
Thank you so much. I appreciate the comment.
It will be beautiful, but I can hear my tools screaming from home! Gonna be hard on them
It’s all done and if you look on the full video section of my TH-cam channel, you will see the finished product. Thanks so much for commenting.
What are you using to seal that?!?
Well, in the past, I used to use the expensive sealers that you can buy of course is multiple brands. However, now pretty much all I use is glue diluted with water.
Cool. I have used glue as well as CA glue for small pieces.
@@juanandrada6651 oh yes, definitely use CA glue as well. Use that often for stabilizing cracks, as well as stiffening up punky spots in the wood as well.
A buttplug?
Looking good 🎉
Thanks
Wow very interesting !!!
Thanks, it’s a process for sure. But I enjoy it.
Hell, yeah! Great work. What type of woods.?
Oak, maple, honey locust, poplar, white birch, walnut. At least that’s what I have at the moment.
@@SeeTheWoodTurn-cf8rv Very cool thank you. And great summer to u
@@MasterTurner969 thank you for commenting, you also have a great summer. Keep watching for new items and videos coming soon.
What is the function of the sculpted Vega cutter? It looks like the ground or milled depression on the cutter top extends to the tip and sides and forms an acute edge such as will shave the stock like a regular lathe gouge. Good video. Thank you.
I think you’re talking about the cutter tip itself, if so it’s designed so it cuts off to the side of the tip yes you can just cut with the tip itself but if you take a little bit deeper cut then you’re shaving from the side of the blade and it does a much more efficient job of cutting material. I hope that answers your question. If not feel free to clarify. I’m still in the process of setting up the shop however we are up and running to some extent hopefully more videos will be coming soon. Thank you so much for the comment and question.
Honestly this looks amazing and an all around great bowl too
Thank you very much. The shop is slowly being set up and I plan to Do a lot more videos full length as well as shorts hopefully you stick around to check them out. Thanks again for the kind words.
*stumbles upon wild and satisfying wood spinning*
Nice ass🫦
good luck with the new lathes!
Thanks, they’ve been up and running for a few weeks now and working fantastic.
push cut with a 40/40 grind would make this so much easier
Yes going to be setting up a new sharpening station shortly with several options including a set up specifically for the 40/40 grind
Wow! Impressive shop! Be cool to see where this goes. Good luck bud.
Thanks it’s slowly coming together I have three lathes set up now with three more being moved in over the next couple months.
