Subject Adventure is a new channel documenting our camping and overlanding adventures. We are Chris and Jen, a couple who like to explore the public lands of Oregon in our Toyota Tundra. Most of the time you'll find us east of the Cascade mountain range in Central and Eastern Oregon. Chris started overland dispersed camping in the early 1990s and Jen has been camping off and on most of her life. We aim to bring you along with us on our journeys, where the subject is adventure.
Camping in the mountains in our truck bed
In this video we head out to the Ochoco Highlands and find a spot in the higher elevations. We get your typical spring weather in Oregon, sun, clouds, snow, and rain. It's all four seasons wrapped up in one weekend. There are some fun activities, including metal detecting, hiking, and some photography. Hope you enjoy our #truckbedcamping video!

This is a short video about the addition of a DIY shelving unit and a tablet mount for the #truckbedcamper. This shelf will give us so much more space for storage when we are out camping and overlanding. We've had to store most of our clothes and stuff in the cab of the truck when we're out, this will allow us to store our clothes and a few other things in the camper area so we can change witho...

In this video we travel on an "unadvisable" road to find a new area to camp and explore. It was a quick overnight trip that got us some good weather, good views, and perfect relaxation.

Intro to the Subject Adventure YouTube channel
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
This video is first of many, it's a quick intro to who we are, what we do, and the type of content you will find here on the Subject Adventure Channel. We get out into woods a few times a month and film most of our adventures. Keep any eye out on the channel for more video coming soon. Thank you for watching and spending time with us.
You are so prepared!!! I would have never thought of bringing a saw on a trip.
FIX YOUR AUDIO!
Can you tell me what's wrong with it? I test it on my PC and it seemed to be OK there.
I'm sorry, I know its been a year, but at 8:13 was your awning on fire?
Ha! Good catch! It wasn't on fire though... It's the reflection of the propane fire pit in the glass of the canopy.
Nice setup. We have a Tundra also, great truck. They make the small fan that sits on top of wood burning stoves that will work on top of you Mr. Buddy heater. No power required works from the heat.
Thank you for the mention! I thought about the wood stove fans for sure. We may still end up with that, but the fans I have now work for when the Mr Heater is on, as well as in the warmer months to try and draw cooler air in through the canopy slider window. So far they have been working great! Not too much draw either.
Nice setup!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Where’s your uploads? Good content would like to see more
They're coming soon! We bought a house in August and it's been quite the undertaking. Working on a new video next week. We have 4 or 5 trips in the queue. Thank you for the compliment!
Behind you in Oregon city saw the sticker, sweet truck!
Nice! It's a small world. Thanks for the kind words!
READY AND WAITING!
Love the drawer slide idea!
Thank you! I found a few videos on TH-cam that had something similar and went from there. They work very well!
YOU ALL HAVE A BANG-UP CHANNEL. HANG IN THERE AND YOUR NUMBERS WILL GROW. THANKS FOR SHARING AND HANG TOUGH.
OUTSTANDING VIEWS AND GREAT CAMP SET-UP. THANKS FOR SHARING...LIKED AND SUBBED YOUR CHANNEL
Thank you! I appreciate the sub and kind words!
Great setup! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the kind words!!
Hey Guys! We found you over at Where to Next Overland! We love meeting fellow TH-camrs/explorers! Looks like some amazing exploring! Love that gorgeous view you discovered... What a beautiful sight to wake up to! Enjoyed the adventure!! 💙Terry and Terri
Hi there! Thanks for the comment and kind words! We haven't been out in a few months as we just bought a 1923 home, so it's kept us pretty busy. Thanks for checking us out and we'll be sure to check out your channel as well!
You are very welcome and thank you so much!!@@subjectadventure
What’s the name of the shower tent ?
It's the Joolca Ensuite single shower tent. We love it! Super easy setup and take down and folds up into a pretty small size.
Love the setup and thanks for sharing. Question about the roof rack. It sounded like you installed the tracks yourself ??? Any chance you could share the details on that process? I recently purchased a leer topper but it does not have tracks installed and I really want one.
I got the tracks from our local pick n pull yard from a newer Suburban. They were 7 feet long so I had to cut them down and drill a new hole in the rail for the end caps on that end. Then I measured (5 times) and drilled holes in the topper and used stainless bolts to mount the racks. I couldn't find any affordable low profile rails and these worked perfect. They were $30 for both.
@@subjectadventure so awesome. Do you have any concerns with structural integrity after drilling through the topper ? And did you drill through the flat top surface or through the curved edge area ? I’ve heard the curved area is thicker and a little more robust.
Our topper has a square insulated section on the inside of the roof. I drilled the holes at the edge of that and used aluminum plates on the underside to distribute the stress evenly.
@@subjectadventure nice! I think I have the same insulation section you are talking about. Did you go through the insulation or on the outside of it to avoid it ?
Sorry for the late reply! I went through the insulation. Somewhere on the internets I found an install guide from Leer on how to install their rails and just followed that.
Such beautiful terrain in Oregon! I need to do some camping out there!
Definitely do that! And let us know when you come out, we could show you some beautiful space....
The truck looks great. Very cool, thought out mods. Thanks for sharing, Mike
Thanks Mike! Years of note taking while out in the woods helped us figure out what we wanted for mods. Google Keep is our friend!
Nice editing. Watched it all.
Thank you! Our editing is certainly a work in progress.....
Those people you ran into, poachers? I thought you couldn’t hunt until fall time?
That was my thought. Unless it was a special controlled hunt, it wasn't deer or elk season. It was the end of turkey season though. Maybe he was a shed hunter and she was hunting turkey? The odd thing was her deflecting the innocent questions I asked, that's what had me wondering
Boring
Thank you, we'll get it someday
Loved this video! Makes us want to go back and explore there again! Such beautiful scenery and you guys totally scored with that metal detector haha
Thanks guys! We're going back over that way soon, hopefully we'll find something fun this time! 😁
@@subjectadventure Let’s us know if you want company!
@@ChambersFamilyOverland I'll hit ya up this evening!
Looks great!
Thank you!
Great video. I enjoy your videos. If you ever make it to Eastern Oregon, let us know. My wife went to preschool with Chris. While I'm not set up for overlanding (yet) I've got a couple of Broncos and a wall tent.
Thank you for the kind words! We're headed back to the Ochocos soon, what part of Eastern Oregon are you? I still have class photos from preschool....
Great video guys! What a beautiful place, and that chili looked good 😋
Thank you guys! The chili was amazing.... Doing that again for sure.
Great job on the build. I'm working on my wife's 2nd gen tundra and I'm looking into another tundra for me. I love your ideas on you platform and everything on the truck.
Thank you for kind words and feedback! It took awhile to get the design where I wanted it, and the implementation was along process since I'm not all that good with cutting wood correctly!
Excellent tour of a beautiful setup ! Thank You.
Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate it!!!
Thanks! Enjoyed the adventure as always. 03 wagon!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. More coming soon!
Regarding the rear sag when over loaded: Rather than installing taller rear spring spacers I recommend Airlift brand air bags. I've done mild leveling kits in conjunction with bags (on my Dodge) and you can fine tune the height depending on your varying load. They're about $150.00. I pull trailers occasionally.
Thanks for the heads up! I've looked into bags, and have been back and forth about them for awhile now. For now, I'm going to add the spring shackles (not additional spacing blocks) and see how that goes. I don't necessarily want to add any more spring rate to the rear, and I also need to get some more suspension travel overall. I've had the shackles in my possession for some time now, but have some rusty bolts to deal with to get them installed. If the shackles don't work, I'll go the airbag route. Thanks again and take care!
Where did you get the net on the shelf?
I ordered the net from Amazon, here's a link www.amazon.com/dp/B0B456QSRW
Love the shelf idea. I may give it a shot in my truck.
Thanks! It was a little time consuming to make with all the cuts, but I wanted it to fit good, lock in and be able to fold away. Well worth the work as it serves the purpose perfectly.
Hi just came across you guys channel. Enjoyed the video and subscribed. Overlanding out west is on my bucket list. We are on the east coast.
Thanks for the sub! We are pretty lucky out here with so much public land, you certainly should come out and check it out
Pfffttt... Old man moment amateur. Wait a few more years son.🤣
Ha, I get that. I am waiting for the day when I can't bend down at all!
Hello new subscription...It's a very short list. Awesome video, perfect in fact. Thank you for that! Looking forward to seeing more soon, you're off to a great start!
Thanks for the sub, gotta start somewhere right? I appreciate the kind words, got more videos in the queue ready to edit!
Great video. Liked and subscribed 👍
Thank you! We appreciate it, thanks for the sub!
Heat..🔥⚔️🌪
Thats a cool tablet mount. I havent seen one like that before. Do you have a link for it?
Thanks! It took me awhile to find it on Amazon, but it certainly fits the build perfectly. Here's a link, non affiliated BTW. a.co/d/7MGZfkr
Great ideas!
Thank you!!
Awesome setup!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Well, I just found your channel and loved the video. New sub here! Coast range has some nice spots for sure. 🤙🏼
Thanks for the sub! We'll be back out there this summer to check out the other spots we have scouted....
Love the mod/improvement list idea while camping, may have to adopt that one especially as we change our setup.
We just use Google Keep notes, that way we can both add to the same note. I still have a few things on the list, but it's dwindling!
“Put a pin on the map, and ended up here.” - Gotta love it. Enjoyed the video, looking forward to more.
Thank you! Working on one right now...hope to have it out tomorrow sometime.
That was great, thanks.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback! Take care
Great video!! Looking forward to more from you guys! What a gorgeous spot you found.
Thanks guys! More on the way....
What a great spot and the video came out great Meagan and I really enjoyed it. Jason
Thanks man! It was a great spot, we'll hit that one again for sure. Glad we could give you a little TH-cam enjoyment in return this time!
What a great spot! The weather looked perfect!
It was great, very comfortable to February in Oregon!
"Baam! Heat." Haha. Beautiful spot. Looked like a wonderful trip. Thanks for sharing!
It was a wonderful time, just what we needed! Thanks!
Looks like you picked a great weekend! Luna was adorable next to the fire! Chris, was that a G3 I spied? We have "his & hers" G3C's.
It couldn't have been a better weekend to go, cold(ish) at night and 55f during the day with sunshine! It is a G3, got it right when they came out quite a few years ago. I mostly carry my M&P 2.0 now though. Nice to have a little something when you're out in the woods. We saw some bear scat in the area, and heard something crashing around in the woods after dark when we were there. Got the 12g out and ready when that happened!
@@subjectadventure nice! 12g is on the short list before this summer.
I got the Mossberg Maverick 88 Security / Field combo from Big 5, priced well, runs good and you get two barrels.
@@subjectadventure you read my mind! Was planning on the Security since the 18.5" barrel is the shortest I can take through Canada
Really enjoyed the video. You two are the King and Queen of awesome camp sites!
Thank you guys! Lot's of time in Google Earth spotting areas, then on the trails scouting. I have a lot of pins in the area now for when we go back.
Can you do a video of your interior build and storage?
I've got some footage of the build that I may post down the road, but I didn't film much of the build.
Great job on the show and tell. Great camera persona, looking forward to more vids !
Thanks man! Hopefully we can get some better lighting for our future videos......
