Amazing watching this video seeing the twin towers. My daughter was 7 months old on this date. 6 years later we visited NYC the towers were no longer there. Visited Ground Zero to pay our respects 😢 possibly the same ferry we travelled on to Liberty Island! We've gone through a pandemic, my daughter's left home & I'm grateful to seeing videos of a happier time in history . Thank you so much ❤
What a difference 25 years makes in 2024. What a different time it would be in 2001.
Funnily enough a young pizza man would end up running his last stop... for a few thousand years atleast
This is straight up depressing watching from 2024. This is what was stolen from us
Same ice skating rink was featured in “Elf” (2003).
The world-famous Rockefeller Center rink
I used to work for NBC and try to avoid you people like the plague on that side of the building when I worked late because as a 29 year old it was less time at my local bar called “fubar” down on 50th past Lexington…Now if I could hug these people in this video I would and tell them life will be tough but worth living…update 2023 was fired from that job in 2009 (was sick of being a “yes” man and having my knees always blistered lol), oh yeah the bar I went to was destroyed by tragic accident when a crane toppled over on it in 2013, I would of been in that bar at that moment if I didn’t lose my job most likely
Correction was laid-off 2008 later that year the accident occurred, was not living in the city and somehow did not hear of the accident til 2013…as you get older your memory plays tricks on you kids
5:10 I spotted Stuart Little toys.
I'm currently watching it from the distant dystopian hellhole that is the year 2023.
Wow a Times Square without umbrellas and chairs blocking a whole ave and no bikes with bike parking which take up thousands of parking spaces and omg a city that is flowing normally oh how nice back in the day it was
Kinda sad and funny to think that there were two genders back then
TH-cam is the best time capsule!
Furbies! 😍
I think i saw the McAllister family
I'd do anything to get back to that time...
your username says 2005 dumbass
Crazy to think they all only had 2 weeks left to live 😢
was people scared about 2000 year coming?
a little bit but not any worse than in 2012.
i wish i was young in 1999 and not now, it would be nice
Paradise on earth😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

This is simply awesome....don't have words to describe....i completely agree with those who says that we were at peak of the era...everything went downhill after that....what a time to be...was 19 in 99
Having a wonderful time in '99!!!
This looks like you had a great time! Thanks for sharing!
Ah yes. Back in those days we'd go to see the tree then to St. Patrick's, then see the storefronts on 5th. Then we'd head to Times Square, walk around and have dinner at Tad's steakhouse. Now it's too expensive and too dangerous. Ever since covid the vibe is different.
I was living in NYC during this time
I feel like So many corrupt things that are finally exposed NOW were happening in secret back THEN. For example, Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein were alive and well. The corrupt systems and people that you plainly see today were most likely in operation behind closed doors.
Stop noseticing
I was in 6th grade then. How old were you?
14!
Enjoyed this immensely. I was born October 1999.
It was an amazing time to be a teenager! The best days ever! I miss them so much!
Nostalgic! Love it!
I was born in 1999
Infact the Last cristmas of 20th century
Nice Cherish vhs.
Miss being a kid in the 90s. Things weren't bad honestly. Before the iphone/social media took over. After 2007 everything did went downhill from there. The future now is hell. And will get double worse for the next 20 years to come. People are just too focus on the wrong things these days. Society & priorities have gone backwards. It is WTF. Ah ... well RIP 90s my childhood memories. Merry Christmas, you filthy animal ! And Happy New Year's 2023. lol
I'd been hired at a big law firm two blocks from Saks/Rockefeller Plaza only four days before Dec 17, 1999. I'm verklempt.
Do you remember a time before terrorism and rampant drug use, when NYC was a great place to live? Pepperidge Farm remembers, and so does this channel.
Everyone was shocked to be on video and had no idea that they'd be viewed almost 24 years later
I was 30 and working my W-End part-time job, which was a 2nd job next to my FT during the week as a short-order cook in La Rosa's which I SO enjoyed, @ the time this video was shot.
Rezmorize by Salt Tank is a trance/techno track that was released in September 1999, only a couple of months before the date of this video. Songs like that make me realize that the 90's wasn't as "vintage" as a lot of people think. Electronic music from the 90's was just WAY too ahead of its time to the point of being kind of jarring... When I listen to 90's EDM classics like Rezmorize by Salt Tank, or Mirror (Signum Remix) by Stray Dog from 1998, or even Offshore (Disco Citizen's Remix) by Chicane from 1996, it feels COMPLETELY out of place to me for the years they were released. The fact that this phenomenon existed ubiquitously in 90's, much more than any other decade in history, makes the 90's so vastly different from those before it. When you hear music from the 80's, 70's, 60's, etc. you instantly know what era it's from. But in the 90's music technology came so far that some of that stuff sounds like it could've been made yesterday. The 1990's really was the fuckin future. Still blows my mind, and when I watch old grainy videos from the 90's like these ones while listening to tracks like those, it's really something special. I can almost imagine everything in "HD" and put myself in the mindset of someone living in the 90's who saw the present moment as nothing BUT the future itself. VHS, PS1, N64, Windows '95, etc. WAS cutting edge and at the time I'm sure it really felt like it. It's no different from today. Sorry for the rant. The thought just seems so profound to me. I can't possibly do this with footage from any other decade pre 1990's because all the media and music sounded like you would expect: old timey and dated. In the 90's this wasn't necessarily so.
I was 19 in 99. You are spot on bro. Awesome insight! 👍
Wanna feel old, this video was made 4 days after I was born (December 15th) I’m 22 now turning 23 in 10 days
Last days of the latest of the best ✨
the only person who is holding a electronic device is the person who is filming this video.
All this is no good. NYC you should be ashamed. It's just because of your " orgueil". Don't still and don't lie anymore too the whole word plz. I never went to NYC, I was to Platsburg once for groceries when I was an anxious student in Montreal. Remember that Mcdonald and that nice looking girl on the right. You would of said W. R the actress. No? Don't say that witnessing is evil, but you, for sure you was! Give back your diplomas to your universities some of you, because you was a bunch of cheaters!
Nobodys staring at their phones. everyones genuinely talking to each other and enjoying the festival, hard to see these scenarios at the moment
Merry Christmas
Little did we know. 2 years later. The world 🌎 would go to shit 💩. Its never been the same. The 2000s. Are horrible.
I was 9 years old living just through the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City when this was recorded lol
Jesus be a time machine 😭
If he came 2 years later
They were all smiling: no phones, no internet, no covid, no inflation. That's the life
No mass shootings. Evory day. You forgot that one.
Eh... there was internet. Just not disgusting social media.
@@mikejejenich7116 unfortunately Columbine. The first one 🙁
@@FehrGormenghastTodd there was social media since the beginning of the internet, just was expensive and not easily accessible, now homeless people can get a free smartphone ( a decent one too ) through a government office and bam he has a computer in his cart/car
what camera was used to record this? :D
An old JVC camcorder... Maybe Panasonic.. They were big, killed batteries and the tape was either 15 or 30 min for the extended play ones, just a viewfinder and the case to carry it all was the size of a backpack. Not too many people were walking around filming stuff.. And like this video people waved and smiled :)
@@palalaska9 it cost like 200 or 300 dollars.
I was in Times Square for NYE 1999/2000 🎉❤
