Come on a run- err.. *experience* with us, and learn from my mistakes. Dog powered sports are generally safe, however when you start adding more dogs and running larger teams, things get risky. Please note that no dogs were harmed in this video, and that I take every precaution possible to ensure their safety. I have learned from this run and will apply it to future runs.
Come Train With Us: Weight Training Dog Sled Run!
มุมมอง 965 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I take the team for a weight training run. We had planned on a regular ATV run, however when I went to pull it out, the battery was flat. So instead we took out the Green Machine and had them do some heavy weight work on a shorter run!

This video is fantastic thank you so much! I’m trying to teach my Doberman to pull me on a skateboard and I want to make sure she is safe so proper command is absolutely imperative!
oh someone who flips the furnado in his house into something useful.
Samoyd sheddings are used too.
That will be exceedingly warm :o Very good use for all that fur!
NO VERTICAL MOVIES! Landscape mode, Horizontal. RTFM for your phone!😡👎
I prefer horizontal recordings also but this was a great video.
RTFM? Rotate that fucking…??
I made this video for TikTok originally, so I’m sorry that it is not in landscape 🤷♀️
Love to see it! The other dog fur yarns I've felt were mixed with a bit of sheep's wool to make spinning easier so it's fun to see a 100% dog yarn. I've read about the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast who had dogs they bred for their wooly fur that they sheared and spun into yarn to used for clothing. These dogs were apparently kept on their own islands to separate them from other dogs to ensure that there was a population of these wooly dogs available. There isn't any archaeological evidence to support this but there is a preserved wooly dog pelt kept in a museum.
Adding in sheep wool will certainly make the yarn stronger and much easier to spin!
I play a game with my dogs called "Gee Paw Haw Paw" It is the simple trick of teaching the dog to shake a paw but with a twist where they learn which paw to offer for the shake. That is how they learn all about going Gee or Haw when they start sledding.
To make life easier when walking my dogs I also use the directional commands, Gee, Haw, Hike, whoa, etc.
My neighbor's husky had puppies, i never saw the dad but they told me it was a black lab/ cattle dog, i took in one of them and hes 7 months now looks SOOO much like the lead dog on the left, black /tan/white with pointy ears i think he is mostly Husky/ cattle dog
My lead is an Alaskan Husky, but your mixed pup sounds cute too! I’ve seen a few cattle dogs enjoy dog powered sports, bikejoring might be something you look into 🙂
Would you ever use a stick harness for mushing? Or just for weight training?
Yep! So this stick harness is specifically for mushing! I personally only use it on some of my wheel dogs, but some folks use it with their entire team!
I'd love you hear more about how you pair rescue dogs. And your story all together 😁
These guys luckily just enjoyed pulling and working together! My other rescue doesn’t enjoy sledding, so she stays home and keeps the couch warm lol. Some of my videos have a bit of information on how I’ve started, but I’ll be doing another podcast episode eventually to update where I’m at now!
What do you mean by "swinging the team into the correct turn". Still learning all the language/logic of mushing! 😁
They help just make the team turn cleanly, and sort of ‘swing’ them into the correct position. If you take turns too tight, you run into your wheel dogs and rig ending up in the corner
I've been looking all over TH-cam for a video about this. I really appreciate it.
Can you please make a video explaining snub lines, how they're made and how they're used.
I can try and get a quick video tomorrow before my run!

Thats some interesting nature
Been nasty and muddy here
It’s FINALLY frozen ground. The mud was endless!
Wow! Thank you this video is super informational for beginners!! Awesome, I will be trying it out today!
Dude my dog mainoise/ boxador.. hot dog..my problem is hes built like a greyhound or borizoi the deep s under body so i cant find a harness..hes 2 hyper and smart. Ive trained my horse to pull a cart..but damn, dogs are harder
I would recommend doing a custom harness for them! If you’re doing carting you’ll need a different harness than you’d need for sledding or bikejoring.
Oh, how I can relate to this. On a sled run with four Siberians my team actually became detached from the sled and took off without me. I almost caught them on foot but with a burst of speed they were gone up a steep hill and around a corner out of sight. I knew the trail had some steep drops off the edge and I worried they would go over. I chased in the snow for about ten minutes when suddenly they came back around another curve totally unharmed. What a relief! My lead dog Dante had turned the team around and brought them back. I took them back down to the bottom of the hill. They thought they were done. But NO! I hitched them back to the sled and up the hill we went again. Mushertom in CT.
Interesting
Happy Thanksgiving ❤
They all had a blast❣
I had know idea You where Greta thunberg. Just kidding love the dogs
bros santa with the reindeers
❤
Wo- wow, this is my first time seeing one of these videos and you are a GENIUS my man😅 imagine attaching a tractor to all the dogs and letting them basically drive it! You beat the system😮 great idea.
This is how most mushers train their sled dogs when there isn’t any or enough snow yet! As much as I’d like to take claim to the idea, it’s been around for a long time haha 🙂
Porque encadenado?? 😞😡
These guys are sled dogs, and will run away if they are not chained and fenced when unsupervised. They get several hours of playtime off their chains every day ❤ just like you wouldn’t let your pet dog off leash if you knew they would run, I don’t let my sled dogs off leash, as I don’t want them injured or lost.
You seem to have more dogs than lasf time
We’re up to 8 dogs now, 7 of which are working in harness. I don’t run all 7 every time, but when I can I do!
@@ChasingTheWolves nice. I will be watching 👍
Thank you. This helped me a Lot to get the harness for my dog and our bikejoring.
Such a pretty dog. Do they have a name? If not silas is a cute name lol.
This is Marceline!
@@ChasingTheWolves HI marceline you have a gorgeous name!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Dose it hurt them?
No. Obviously if the owners overworked then it would be abuse but I’m assuming they’re using the dogs like any other work dogs. All they’re doing is pulling whatever it is they’re pulling. Plus having all those dogs pulling at the same time makes it not actually that hard for each dog to pull since they’re all helping each other pull the weight.
If you look at some of the other shorts they actively train the dogs to be strong and pull things with weight training. So this is pretty much the dogs’ normal everyday thing.
Nope! If it did, we wouldn’t do it.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that song
Can someone please explain how to get my dog to pull I’ve looked at at least 100 videos today and every single video talks about how to stop them from pulling it is not that hard that’s what they were bred for anyways, to pull sleds but everybody wants to talk to be nice and perfect, and not able to have any fun I just bought rollerblades a couple days ago and he’s too afraid to Poll and I constantly tell him the commands to Poll and he won’t. There’s no video I want to teach my husky even though how do you specifically what they were bred to do is pull things more or less
Some dogs just naturally don’t pull, and that’s okay! You can do a lot of counter conditioning with treats in front of them to try and get them to pull, but not every dog is made for these sports. That’s okay though, you can always get a bungee style leash and have them beside you as you roller blade!
I have a question, maybe do a video about it and explain it?? But dose your dogs know the difference between "WORK" AND " GOING FOR JUST WALKING ON A LEASH" HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN OR TEACH?
My house dogs can all loose leash walk, however the outside sled dogs have not been taught this. But all dogs *can* be taught the difference. I use collars for walks and harnesses for pulling. I do loose leash training as you would with any dog, and then just allow them to pull in harness. It just takes a lot of reinforcement, but they can do it 🙂
Not in a weird way but where do u live like what state and country
We are based out of northern Minnesota!
@@ChasingTheWolves nice
I wouldn't feel it either 😂❤. Good job trying, Sweetheart 😍🥰.
Could a competition weight pulling harness also be used for the dog to pull me on a cart/wagon?
Weight pull harnesses are designed to be used with a really low attachment point. If the cart/wagon can be attached to the gangline low, it would probably be okay for recreational stuff, however I really do recommend a harness that’ll be specific to the type of work your dog is doing.
If you teach them to pull will they always pull when on leash for walks????
Nope, you can teach them to know the difference between a collar and a harness!
very nice and informative, thank you. only the sound is a bit low. i got a question. which harness would be ideal for bikejoring that would also prevent the dog from getting out of the harness?
I would recommend an x back or halfback style harness, and use a ‘safety line’ (a short line with snaps on either end) attached to both the collar and the harness, this way if they back out of the harness, they are still attached with the safety line.
Absolutely love the video! Going to apply this to my shepherd while on my rollerblades
Why are you training a 7 year old to pull a sled? By the time she’s trained she will be too old to run a race.
It was just for fun for her, and she got to do plenty of fun runs and a race! It’s never too late to be active with your dogs. Many purpose bred sled dogs are racing/working at 7-10 years old still!
You look fantastic 😂
I love your dogs' names
Ham isn't good for your dogs but hotdogs and bologna are good
Whatever works best and is safe for your dogs!
I share my life with a spanish water dog. Didnt have to show him anything, he just pulls like a madman xD
Yeah, my purpose bred sled dogs naturally pull, no instructions needed 🤣
What a beautiful trail.....so peaceful. ❄💙
Beautiful ... the frozen paradise 🙂
Beautiful Husky
They are all having a blast in the deep snow ❄ 🤗💞
