    Detached to Binbrook from 60 M.U great time in the 60s , hard work , curing the fuel leaks , I discovered a broken fuel pipe bracket which had worn into a live pressurised feel line , causing all the Lightings to be grounded for fleet checks . Transpired about one third of the RAF’s fleet had damaged lines, popular or not 😂fond memories, could not understand why MOD closed the base. Ideally placed for interception.

    How things change. That was the airport where XH558 was returned to flight and where Teasin' Tina made the last flight of the Victor. I can't think what they need the runway for, surely there's plenty of places where cars can be parkedv without bothering anybody. I read that there's guaranteed win of 15 million on the lottery. If I won it I'd buy the place, turf them out and get the fast taxi days going again.

    • @125brat
      @125brat 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think for these 3 aircraft, they are now beyond the point of recovery. The last time I was there which was just after COVID, they had deteriorated badly as water had got in and nature had started to take them back. For example, the Victor AEO panel which controls electrical power had been badly damaged by water which meant ground power couldn't be applied. Together with water damage to contactors etc in the plenum chamber which weren't repairable or replaceable due to lack of spares, it's a non-starter. The Nimrod and Comet had similar problems and without the spares and expertise which have dried up, it's not going to happen.

      I think a car storage company may have given residents notice to quit in 2020. As a result, many aircraft were either scrapped or moved. An idea was also put forward to construct a museum off the aerodrome, to house those aircraft remaining under the control of a company owned by the former Directors of C Walton Ltd.

      Does anyone know what became of the team that used to look after the Victor, Nimrod and Comet until a couple of years ago? I know things fell apart around/after COVID but supposedly they were going to lay a concrete slab for the Victor so it could have the engines run from time to time, but that hasn't happened. To be honest, I doubt any of them will run again as they've deteriorated to the point where they can't be brought back to life without an awful lot of work, time and dedication which doesn't seem to be around any more.

      In the past I knew someone involved with the restoration of the Vulcan there. They arranged a tour to see the Vulcan being restored and around the static park of aircraft. It wasn't long after a 747 had been flown in. It was amazing to see a Super Guppy up close. It is a shame to see the aircraft decaying. The Victor is a favourite especially from head on. I think the most beautiful jet airliner ever is the Vickers VC10.

      Maybe thanks from Putin for the UK Goverment arranging Brexit-and all the self harm it has done to the British Economy and Society, including the Armed Forces. If some foreign agency wanted to ruin a country, the UK Government took it straight from the Kremlin Playbook. It is as if they are working for Putin,just like Trump and the Republican Party. I think that is a strong possibility, or our MPs are just stupid, but I think Russian money talking to to them is very likely,mixed with gullibility and stupidity.
