Come on, let's face it - EVERYWHERE is the most depressing place to live in Britain nowadays. It's just a matter of personal choice, and the gloomy weather doesn't help. But anywhere perks up 100% when the sunshine is out, so let's not be too defeatist!

It's a pretty enough wee town and my republican heart will be forever lifted by the thought of 'king Chuck queuing outside the Chinese take out for his Singapore noodles and special fried rice along with the hoi polloi.

Thank you for this reminder of just how fortunate we are to have this fabulous space. Walking across the Meadows is one of my great joys in life, whether heading into the adventures of the city centre or returning via Marchmont or Bruntsfield Links to the comfort of home. To make for an even more enjoyable experience I recommend lunch with a view of the Meadows at Victor Hugo Deli on Melville Terrace. Or have a look at nearby Tills Bookshop. Or stroll over to Bruntsfield for great independent shops and eats. Though most folk simply stroll through the Meadows, it is surrounded by gem opportunities that most simply pass by.
