This floor was in very bad condition. The concrete was an exceptionally weak, sandy mixture with a lack of aggregate as well. After grinding it was decided to add an additional coating of epoxy before the final pour for chips. By doing this first step we could be sure that we have a solid floor for our customers. Sand doesn’t compress so I’m confused

    • @ProTechEpoxyFloors
      @ProTechEpoxyFloors ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment, great question. Sand absolutely compresses. You drive on it every day. But in this application it would still allow the slab to move. But bottom line this is Florida so there are no freeze-thaw cycles. The best description of these joints is “control joints”. I just bring my northern nomenclature to Flordia. There is not much you can do to prevent the slab cracking. This just contributes to the aesthetics of the floor and makes it easier to maintain.

    • @ProTechEpoxyFloors
      @ProTechEpoxyFloors ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of stretching lol. You grind as close as possible, then we have a detail tool with a carbide rasp for the rest. Because there is no traffic in the area behind the fixtures you only need a light on scratch on the floor.

    • @TheCaseybfl
      @TheCaseybfl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProTechEpoxyFloors Thanks for the info! Do you just tape up around the heater and use chip brushes to apply the actual epoxy/top coat?

    • @ProTechEpoxyFloors
      @ProTechEpoxyFloors ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCaseybfl yes, tape well. Then get epoxy and chips UNDER the fixture. It will appear to be sitting on the floor. Again you should use your carbide rasp in this area as well.

      We put down about 2 1/2 times the amount that actually stick to the epoxy. The excess is scraped and collected. This job was about 650 square feet. So about 80 lbs final but we applied 160-180lbs before scraping and collecting. This ensures complete and even coverage
