Reaching Derwent Dam you can follow the route ...

Was there with my dog today, glorious!!
Born in Fovant Crescent . The firestation had flats above . There was a staircase down to give the firemen free access to the library and baths . As kids we had two friends sons of a firemen so we were able to gain access to the pool 😂 Hobson s meat and potatoes pie was my treat . The church on Lillian Grove , the Congregational now United Reform is in fact a school by design and there was plans to build a church in front but this never happened so the upstairs become the church ❤😂church
We lived at Leamington Court, directly next to St Elizabeth's Church for over 20 years. The view from our lounge window was Leamington Rd Working Mens Club, from our front door, St Elizabeth's Church and from my bedroom window, the chimney and Holdsworth Mill itself. How lucky we were literally flanked on all sides by such beauty, magnificence and history. ❤️ Thank you for taking me back.
Great series of videos here. Watched them all as a recce for my own journey around and very helpful. Can’t find stages 2 or 3?
@MrKev82uk thanks, not sure what happened to them, they are on my route planner as tracks but the videos have gone missing
❤ cheers for the great trip down memory lane,
@@paulsimister-ng5nx glad you enjoyed it.
I swapped the inner for a bug next as the inner caped coming undone
Absolutely loved your video.
I went in the Union at Dinner time from John Myer's.
I worked at John Myer's from 1979 till 1981 then got made redundant. It was the best Place, that I've worked at. I had a right laugh there. I met my best friend there and i still see her after 55 year's. She had a stroke 4 yrs ago.
My Mum and Dad got married there in 1926.
My Mum went to that School. That was interesting, what you said about there being a Mortuary thete. Never knew that.
Thank you for this. My Grandparents lived opposite Houldsworth school. A house where my father was born. All three have sadly passed away and their ashes are buried in St Elizabeth's church grounds. so a very poignant video for me.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Where's 7 8 and 9 lol
Hmmm, I know I did them in Aug 21. I put them in my walking group and personal page, not sure why I didn't upload to TH-cam though. Here is route 9 for a perusal. facebook.com/share/p/6zPhnVLHcNap8E6p/
What map are you using for this please? Walked it from Wigan to to Edgeworth in one day so backwards but its not very well sign posted same with west Pennine way 😅
Hi, I plotted it from the original website but it's now easier to use it via plotaroute or Go Jauntly. Details can be found here www.gmringway.org/the-route/
The village of Reddish. Think to say the least thats pushing it.
stockport has lost all its character
Snowy and cold - perfect festive viewing. All the best for 2024 - from Yokohama Jan 1 :)
Lovely stuff!
Really enjoyed this. Your enthusiasm and love of the place comes through great. I used to live in the Denton on the border with North Reddish. I'll check out your other videos. Thanks 👍
Thank you, hope you enjoy watching a few more.
South Reddish ignored as usual
I was using these great guide books, here is a link if you fancy taking a walk stockportheritagetrust.co.uk/product-category/books/walks/
South reddish had the original Robinsons brewery 😂
Many fond memories of good old Reddish. Lived in the 'first house in North Reddish': 2 Burnfield Road. The Bull pub was on the corner opposite. Thought we were 'posh', living in good old Reddish. Left #2 to emigrate to South Africa in 1965. But Reddish still retains fond memories some 58 years later. Robert H. Fidler, Scottburgh, KZN, South Africa.
Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the memory.
Where the trig point is on Blacksnedge or Th' Edge as it's called localy is known as Robin Hoods Bed, the cobbles that you walked down is the Roman Road. Wheather it is Roman or not there's been some debate for well over 100 years.
Have you ever done a video that shows the remains of the unfinished canal that ran along the north side of Reddish Vale? As you probably know, construction of the the Beet Bank Branch of the Ashton Canal was started but was never completed, due to difficulties with the groundworks and unstable land. It's a long time since I was in the area but 50 years ago the canal channel was best visible just off Ross Lave Lane, on the right as you go up the hill out of the Vale. It continued for half a mile or so towards the East but has since been severed by the Motorway. Other earthworks were evident to the north of Reddish Vale Rd., (land subsequently occupied by a motley collection of old storage buildings / workshops etc.) and there was some apparently on the golf course to the south of there. Any footage?
Hi Ken, I haven't filmed that part. Maybe check on the Stockport Branch Canal Facebook page and I think they have a website too. www.mscs.org.uk/
Just rewatching this after doing a small section the other day, feeling inspired ❤
Thank you. I have cousins living in stockport.
Great guide here. Buildings are amazing and Interesting
I enjoyed watching this. I live in Matlock so it was good to see where you walked. Glad you made it up to Giddy Edge 👍
Thank you, I still have a few sections to complete yet, it's a stunning place to walk. Thanks for watching.
It’s a lovely area, not too far from us. It never disappoints 👍
It certainly is a lovely area, lots to explore and enjoy 👌
I’ve only been there the once Phil but thought I would go again sometime. Hope you’re ok mate. 👍
It's a nice place isn't it, we have some gems on our doorstep. All good here mate, 👌
Great video. My first ever job was at Kay brothers in Hurst street, making zip firefighters and lots of other things. Happy days.
Glad you enjoyed it, so many memories for lots of people.
Working the street corner, business was slow… so Phil went for a walk instead 😂 Top vid bud. A veritable gem on your doorstep
Haha I do look like a street walker, oops! Got let down with company so went for plan B and actually had a better day.
That took a fair bit of work that video, what a beautiful haven, and yes that was Cromwells Castle🏰
Thank you, I'm learning to edit as I go along hopefully to bring a better watching experience. It was a last minute decision so I didn't read up and refresh my facts but I think I did OK. Thanks for the comments 🙂
Epitome of a great walk that, so much cool stuff! Steam engines were a highlight for me. Shame about the old rain. Keep ‘em coming
Thanks, I got there just at the right time, it was great to watch them in action. Gotta love the British summer weather too 🤔🤣
Well done@
Thank you 😊
... I think the Farmer has every right to put #BarbedWire on their Gate - It's to stop people clambering all over the #Gate and #Busting it
The other way to prevent people from climbing over the gate is to create a better pedestrians access.
... #Beautiful #Countryside, #England, #Derbyshire
Oh, I thought it meant a walk to 'Ringway' airport. I get it now 😂
Great video - thanks!
Thanks for the nice comment 👍
Another fantastic video there, so inspirational. Phil, you’re a legend. Great scenery, well done for capturing it and sharing.
Thank you 😊 makes the job easier when we have so much to see and enjoy on our doorstep
Looks a nice tent only thing i was worried about it looks very bright inside how was it to sleep in durong bright summer mornings? Thanks
I'm the wrong guy to ask, I can sleep anywhere 😴
Good on you. Like yourself, not been for a run in ages. Spent many an hour in the Grey Horse - never had the runs in there 😂💩
It's too easy to become lazy isn't it...get your trainers on and go for a run 🏃♂️
Good for you 🏃♂🏃♀
Great places, this video took me right back to quite a few walks I’ve done around there and the quilt shop in Bakewell we’d always go to with my Nan and Grandad. Thanks for sharing x
I wonder if my inclusion of the old mural on the end of Reddish North in my vid helped inspire the new honeycomb motif. (Sheer hubris!!) Looking better though :)
Phil’s pulled! “Come into my cave, girls 😉” Fantastic places. I love Stanage Edge and Padley Gorge
Dora the Explorer 😂
Well done! 👍
well done to you i no it was abit hard as i done watkins path last week and it was brutal on my thighs lol you done well be proud of yourself which i no you are keep up the good hiking you do pukka.....
Taking mine on its first bike packing adventure 👍
Fantastic! How the other half live. A proper floating city! I’d be having a few beers and going down that slide me! Did the phone box smell of p!ss? Is the food and drink included?
I only showed a few parts of the ship, it's huge. The phone box is a secret door to a hidden bar. All food and soft drinks included and cheapo wine. We always get a drinks package and enjoy all the benefits 😉.
Familiar landscapes. Did you curse those cyclists as they went past? 🚴🚴♀️🚴♂️ Great to have such places on our doorsteps. Wingardium leviosa, leaf!
