Poulan 3400 Chainsaw, 6th of 7 Flip Projects
In this video we will work on this vintage, commercial duty chainsaw and get it running again in addition to fixing an issue with the manual chain oil pump. I had about $25 in this saw including the original cost and the repair costs and I eventually sold this saw for $150.

    • @MEGMotors972
      @MEGMotors972 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can be a lot of things depending on what it takes to get it started when it is hot. In some cases a worn trimmer will lose compression when it gets hot. It will continue to run until you shut it off and then cannot be started again until it cools. If holding the throttle wide open helps then it may be flooding due to a stiff carburetor diaphragm. If choking it helps is could be going lean due to the same diaphragm problem. In some cases it's just carb adjustment although typically when they start to need adjusting it's because the diaphragm is staring to stiffen up. What do you have to do to get it to start when it is hot?

      @MEGMotors972 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi and thanks for the feedback. At 11:37 I talk about using the spark plug from the same blower I pulled the coil from. Later in the video (in the high speed part) I had to pull the plug to get the covers back on but I used that same plug after the covers were on. The original spark plug did not look bad enough to have been the root of the no spark condition although you raise a good question. If I didn't test the new coil with the old spark plug then it is entirely possible that the spark plug was the problem all along. I really don't think that was the case and the blower is long gone now so we will never know for sure 🙂 Thanks for watching.

      Typically it is either the carburetor flooding because of the diaphragm or the needle. These engines also tend to blow a little fuel back out of the carb when they are run hard and that can get worse as they get older. If you have a brightly colored oil in the gas you can sometime see it on the filter. If it's just a little and it is running okay I wouldn't worry about it too much.

      Amazon and eBay have both the complete carb rebuild kits or just the metering diaphragms depending on which way you want to go. I typically buy the diaphragms in bulk to keep costs down.

    Mantis tillers have the same kind of manifold block that your string trimmer has where the bolts are captured in the block and they can move around. I think Mantis tillers are made by Echo. I went back to watch this again because I’m trying to get a Ryobi trimmer running that has the same type carb. Nice video. Going to try again, thanks.

    You completely walked me through what I blindly had to do 9 years ago <shudder>. I'm having another fist-fight with the GT200R. Thank you for your guidance!!!

    great vid, i found those carbs come from factory running lean. the idle jet , i resize it to next bigger size.

      Thanks. I seem to see that a lot across a lot of different types of equipment. It's like they come from the factory just barely rich enough to run so anything that causes them to lean out, even just a little bit, becomes a problem.

    Nice video Mike. I have that same blower hanging down in my basement for at least 20 years. I think it’s time for the trash. I hate to give up on a project though.

      Thanks for the feedback. It actually works pretty good so I’m glad I was able to get it fixed. The pull starter issues made mine a bit difficult but if it had just needed the carb and fuel line work it wouldn’t have been too bad. Don’t give up, save it from the landfill :-)

    I have the same one, its basically a troybilt. its on its 7th season and still going strong. only had to replace throttle cable a few years ago and bump knob retainer twice. I always use ethanol free fuel mixed with full synthetic 2 cycle oil and in off season store without gas.

      I believe your fuel choices are why it is still working. Good job on that! I also only use non-ethanol fuel in anything I have with a carburetor.
