@@MEGMotors972 turned out the plug was fine. Sat for 6 years and its not getting fuel, likely clogged carburetor.

@@Josephmartin0122 6 years is a long time for sure. I would expect the fuel lines and primer to be rotten.

@@MEGMotors972 I drained the fuel before I stored it. The primer bulb appears new and is receiving gas, fuel lines appear good as well but can't really know for sure. I'm gonna try and disassemble the carb and clean it out. New carb is $10-$20 though.

Thanks, that one was a bit of work to get fixed but it does seem to be working well now. My best hope is to find a collector somewhere that will appreciate the condition of this one. I've seen a few of these online but most are pretty beat up.

Thanks, it was pretty much do or die on the fuel line but it seems to be working well so far.

It can be a lot of things depending on what it takes to get it started when it is hot. In some cases a worn trimmer will lose compression when it gets hot. It will continue to run until you shut it off and then cannot be started again until it cools. If holding the throttle wide open helps then it may be flooding due to a stiff carburetor diaphragm. If choking it helps is could be going lean due to the same diaphragm problem. In some cases it's just carb adjustment although typically when they start to need adjusting it's because the diaphragm is staring to stiffen up. What do you have to do to get it to start when it is hot?

@@brianbirtcher431 that sounds like a compression problem. Does it feel like it has good compression when it doesn’t want to start?

That's the key for sure. I watch marketplace quite a bit and find these kinds of deals from time to time.

@@raylidell3613 I typically find the kits on Amazon or eBay. If all you need is the diagram you can search “ruixing diaphragm” on Google and you should get a ton of hits.

Hi and thanks for the feedback. At 11:37 I talk about using the spark plug from the same blower I pulled the coil from. Later in the video (in the high speed part) I had to pull the plug to get the covers back on but I used that same plug after the covers were on. The original spark plug did not look bad enough to have been the root of the no spark condition although you raise a good question. If I didn't test the new coil with the old spark plug then it is entirely possible that the spark plug was the problem all along. I really don't think that was the case and the blower is long gone now so we will never know for sure 🙂 Thanks for watching.

I'm not sure what is the best way to update the project as I get pieces fixed and sold. I can update the descriptions in this post and on the individual posts but you won't see them unless you check back from time to time. I may do a final update video once they are all gone to talk about how we did overall.

I have rarely seen issues with the levers or the shift drum. Typically the dogs will get rounded off and that will cause the transmission to jump out of gear.

@@MEGMotors972 Thank you; it happened with my 1992 VW Vento a few days ago as well; jumped out of 5th gear on a small bump in the road, nothing big; no way it will go in 5th now; the rest still works.

@@alvincook1276 carb cleaner and a wire brush. It was cooked on pretty good and took some elbow grease to get it clean.

@@philliphall5198 there are a number of sites that have parts diagrams, ereplacements is one I use a lot. They have good prices and reasonable shipping.

@@ronalddumey9451 yep, that would do it. I had a friend one time that had this problem with a motorcycle. Turns out his child filled the exhaust with dry dog food, lol.

If you think you have a vent problem you can try running it with the gas cap loose. If it runs okay with the cap loose you are on the right track.

Yes I did. I hit it with a dremel and a stone first and then sandpaper down to 400 grit.

You’re exactly right about sharp edges causing preignition.

Good catch. Yes I did but it was after I recorded the video. I was hoping no would notice.

I was going to look for the parts and fix the one I took off of I could find them. Is no wonder they fail with all the compression that motor has.

Is it still running okay?

Typically it is either the carburetor flooding because of the diaphragm or the needle. These engines also tend to blow a little fuel back out of the carb when they are run hard and that can get worse as they get older. If you have a brightly colored oil in the gas you can sometime see it on the filter. If it's just a little and it is running okay I wouldn't worry about it too much.

That’s awesome. I really like the Echo line of equipment. It amazes me sometimes when I get these older pieces in the shop, how tight and smooth the engines still feel.

I tore my 1971 Yamaha 175 down a few times back in the day with almost no tools. Back then I had to fix it if I wanted to ride it and nothing was going to stop me from riding, lol. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

Which start attempt? In most of them I think I said I could smell gas so a prime didn’t make sense although I did eventually try a prime in every attempt. With the coil being bad I don’t think it would have helped.

Amazon and eBay have both the complete carb rebuild kits or just the metering diaphragms depending on which way you want to go. I typically buy the diaphragms in bulk to keep costs down.

Thanks. I seem to see that a lot across a lot of different types of equipment. It's like they come from the factory just barely rich enough to run so anything that causes them to lean out, even just a little bit, becomes a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. It actually works pretty good so I’m glad I was able to get it fixed. The pull starter issues made mine a bit difficult but if it had just needed the carb and fuel line work it wouldn’t have been too bad. Don’t give up, save it from the landfill :-)

I believe your fuel choices are why it is still working. Good job on that! I also only use non-ethanol fuel in anything I have with a carburetor.

How much did you sell the weedeater for?
