The hated vine borers
มุมมอง 475 หลายเดือนก่อน
When the healthy pumpkin/winter squash vines start to wilt and die, it's usually a vine borer grub eating the inside of the vine.
It's so nice that you can still grow things❤
Merry Christmas, Mary!❤
@@growjoyfullyhomestead Merry Christmas!
Hey Mary, your urban garden looks amazing! 🌱 I love the idea behind this video, but I noticed it could perform even better with some optimization tweaks. A few quick improvements like an SEO-friendly title, description, and strategic tags could really boost views, engagement, and reach.
@@TH-cam-SEO-Expert-BD Thank you for your critique, much appreciated 👍
@@marysurbanchickengarden You're welcome, Mary! If you'd like, I can dive deeper and optimize the title, description, and tags for you. This will give the video better visibility and help it attract more viewers. Just let me know if you’d like me to take care of it!
Good to see you!❤
@@growjoyfullyhomestead Thank you hon, and good to see you too 😊
GOD Bless You! Have a great weekend.
Thank you, and you as well 😊
Thank you! You too!
Nice Garden Tour. I have mums in my Garden also.
Nice👌👌👌👌💞💞💞💞💞
Hi Mary! Keep gardening ❤
@@growjoyfullyhomestead hi there, thanks for the encouragement 😊
Trimming them is supposed to make for stronger plants, but don't trim them the day you plant them out.
Those garden pest are relentless . I hope you have a good fall crop
@@Maria-ql3fc thank you 🙂
Maybe the eggs came in some soil you brought in? It's possible if the compost didn't get hot enough.
You could be right, thanks 😊
Looks like it works just fine!
Very cool!😎
Nice set up.. im going to send Quail Momma a link. She will love this! 😁
Hi Mary.. Beautiful garden set up! The bugs are always a challenge! I try and get out to collect them for the quail.. they love them! 🐥
@@quailmomma thank you for your kind words of encouragement. When I had the chickens I gave the pest to them, but they don't care for squash bugs 🤮
Sounds like some sort of catapillar.. maybe a moth of some sort.. 😢
@@tamscorner67 A's I was spraying the BT solution on the beans some tiny moths flew out from down in the plants so I'm sure you are correct.
I had some solid green tiny worms under the tree collard leaves when they were small plants this early summer. I did put some insecticide powder under the leaves and that killed them. I just had to do that once. I had to because the tree collards are hard to get and I didn't want to start from scratch with the few seeds I have left. But, some things just didn't do well because of the dry summer. I think I have one little luffa. The other vines got destroyed by rodents (probably squirrels). They didn't want to share the fence, I guess! I won't be planting luffas or bottle gourds in the back area next year. They leave the front yard alone. And as far as worms go, just that one attack happened. I had a few snails in front, but found and tossed them once they ate some leaves! You just never know! I am in Central Texas where it gets hot and dry! I think things might have been even buggier, but I feed the birds in back and I think they eat some bugs and worms. So the biggest pests are the squirrels and raccoons! I had a memorial cloth flag in yard in front of the grave of one of my cats, and the raccoons tried to rip it down and rip holes in the canvas. I had to bring it inside (and I patched the holes). Once they start to destroy stuff, they keep at it. Probably teenage raccoons!
@@WarmFuzzyVibes Yeah those critters can be a nuisance for sure. I planted some solder beans either last yr or the yr before and that was my first experience with these kinds of caterpillars, I'll never plant those again.
@@WarmFuzzyVibes How do the tree collards taste?
@@marysurbanchickengarden I don't know. But they should taste similar to regular collards.
Glad you had a good time in Florida with your son and I’m glad that you’re back my dear friend. Sorry I missed watching this video and I’m just now getting around to watching. Thanks so much my dear friend for another great garden tour. You always do some great garden tours bye-bye for now.
Thanks for another great garden tour. I watched from the beginning to the end always love a good garden tour thanks so much for
Thank you Grandma Sandy 😊
Hope you're able to get some extra pumpkins off the vine before winter!
I hope so too! Thanks for stopping by 😊
I hope you had a great vacation. The garden doesn't look that empty and it will be bursting again soon 😊
I did, and thank you for stopping by 😊
The garden is looking pretty good for the hottest part of the year. Hopefully you'll get a few melons 🙏🏻

Also, I want to also thank you for the message you wrote in my comment section on my latest video. We can make this country beautiful once again one person at a time. Don’t forget how important city government is, county government and of course, our state government hopefully better local government will work up to the federal level and make our country better but we have to start at the city level. I’m going to start showing more things where I live. To show you what it’s like living in Southern California.
@@GrandmaSandy I have dear dear friends in lower Alabama who moved here from California . They both took awhile to acclimate and one says he will never get use to the humidity, but I know he will. It's a brother and sister and both of them ended up marrying people in the church I attend, both are loving born again Christians and they both have children now. I've seen some video clips on different parts of California and where the homeless and drug crisis is so bad. Honestly you need a better governor and you are right we have to start at the city level and vote for better leaders and start holding people accountable for things. I'm sorry Sandy I was about to get on the proverbial soap box. God bless you hon.
Always enjoy a good garden video. It always makes me happy to be out of my garden and also loving to watch beautiful garden videos like yours.
@@GrandmaSandy Thank you, that's so kind of you.
Just beautiful!
@@RoosterHoller thank you 😊
@@RoosterHoller if you don't mind me asking, where do you live , not specifically just the state or area?
@@marysurbanchickengardenClose to Salem in North Central Arkansas.
@marysurbanchickengarden Did I notice you use milk for blight? I am about to try this. Blight is my worst enemy. Any suggestion. I love your garden.
@@RoosterHoller I use it for powdery mildew, I've not tried it on blight but it could work since both are pathogens.
How do spell that, I wanna find some seeds. 👍🙏💕🍀💗

I bet they are delicious and I love shelling peas
@@Maria-ql3fc we've had some last night for supper and they were delicious. Had some fresh ripe sliced tomatoes, with some roasted potatoes from the garden with them and to me it was a meal fit for a king.
Wow those are huge, and look so yummy.

That stinks about the vine borers. Thanks for snowing me the wilted leaves and how to follow them on up to the roots

The dreaded vine borer, they should have to live with fire ants lol.

Lol that little bugger sting you, gardening is so much fun and frustrating at the same time. I love all challenges growing food throws at us, have an amazing day
@@TheBullsGarden Thank you my brother in Christ, I needed a chuckle today and you are so right. We wouldn't appreciate the good if we don't experience some disappointment right?
Vine borers r the worst. Squash bugs r really bad too! Squashes are very hard to grow because of them.
@@gardeningwithcaitlin I agree, and I don't like pesticides in my garden, so the pest get their share for sure.
