Looks great buddy! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Dane! Thank you
Very generous offering guitars to viewers.
Thanks, its what feels right.
Great work.
Thanks so much!
Happy NewYear, Mick! Looking beautiful. Especially like the Celtic shapes on the top. Super fun secret section!
Happy New Year Cal! Thanks, this one is pretty interesting. I am glad I thought to do the celtic carve. The super secret offer is still there 😉
Hey Mickey it's Jake. Merry xmas. Anyway my phone took a shit on me and I lost all my contacts. Do me a favor so I don't have to give my number to the world on TH-cam, and call the place that I work and just let it ring a couple times. Your number will be on the caller i.d. I remember the area code so I'll know it's your number if by chance it doesn't show your name. Then I'll give you a call with my new number. You can just Google the place that I work at to get the number. We don't open til 11am so just let it ring a couple times. Love you brother and hope your having a good holiday. J
Another stellar guitar design from you. What's not to love? The decision to break up the f-hole design works so well in the context of a burl top. That's genius. If I were a rich man, I'd commission me a McD guitar for sure. Maybe in another life...
You are a rich man when it comes to attitude. I always look forward to your appreciation. Maybe not in another life.....
Great design. I read somewhere that f holes are actually elongated s holes like they used to write in olden days when an s appeared in the middle of a word
Thanks! Thats super cool information, learn something new every day.
A boatload of work done in this one. I love the F hole design.
Thanks Jag! It's amazing how much quicker things are going with some knowledge under my belt. I am excited for the next step on the f hole, hope you like it.
Making great progress! I think that F hole is gonna look pretty cool.
Thanks Dane! I have some cool plans for it 😎
Great detailed work. That sawing was excruciating!!
Thanks Cal! It's going to get much more detailed 😮 can't wait to show some details.
Excellent tutorial and well explained! Sorry it took me so long to get here, been a crazy few weeks! Thanks for doing this one, it makes so much sense! I love the “rib feature of artisticness”! 😊
Yes! Just take continuously more obtuse triangles off the edge. I'm sure life will settle down, and you will be stoked to have some shop organization!
Nice work with the 14"! We've already hit -20 here so, not going to be much done in the shop until spring I guess. Looking good brother! YAY, a carving video coming up! Thanks! 😀
I bought a scroll saw after that endeavor. Thanks Jag!
Beyond beautiful. And seems to work perfectly. Work of art.
Thanks Robin! This one is a little heavy, but it really sounds nice.
Maybe the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen.
Thanks so much Robin! Glad you liked it.
Thanks so much for this one, McD. Really informative. I've always liked the organic look of your guitars and wondered about the creative process. This is epic. Side note: what the heck is that marimba looking instrument on the top shelf in the intro/outro? And the circular object on the lower shelf? Just a sculpture or is it some kind of drum? Thanks again for the great content.
Thanks Ed! Glad you liked it. The one up top is a balaphone (xylophone with gourds for resonance) and the other is an Udu drum. Did a lot of world hand percussion in my younger days. Cheers
you weren't sure but is was informative! Great work & you know I loved seeing the Bubinga at the end!
That bubinga has a lot of luster! Thanks Trent! I was happy I could pull enough information together.
Very cool tutorial/explanation going on. Really liked that sneak peek at the end!
Thanks Cal! It did work out better than I thought it would. 😉
Great work brother. Coming together so nicely. I really love what you've done with the frame of this guitar!! Killer✌️&💙
Thanks Todd! Excited to see how this comes together. ✌️
I am so lucky to have a great friend building a f(((($ng amazing guitar for me!!
Love you too Eric!
I agree with the artistic part that comes from hand building. It is so satisfying to make an instrument that way. This is going to be a really killer guitar brother. Awesome work!✌️&💙 By the way, I have made several guitars at 25.5" and used a 12" radius. That's the balance point I've found that keeps the neck comfortable and playable on that scale length!
Awesome tip 🤔 Thanks Todd!
MMMMOOOOOOOO JOOOOOOOOOOOO RIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Lizard King is coming together nicely. Looking forward to your carving video!
Thanks Cal! Can't wait to get this top sanded and see some lizard skin. Cheers
Looking very nice my friend. I still watched the whole video even though you made it very easy to skip. Great looking piece of bubinga. I picked three nice pieces of wood today. A piece of 4/4 pauduk, a piece of 8/4 mahogany and a huge piece of 8/4 sapele. 16+" wide by 10 ft long. They had one small piece of bubinga but it was twisted.
Awesome! I need to go check out the exotic wood dealer in Reno. I use Gilmer Wood Co out of Portland a lot. You should check them out, great prices 👍 Having fun over here, Thanks Dane!
@ how close are you to Reno? I'm just over in Mt Shasta.
twenty minutes, if you are ever down in the area let me know. If I make it up there I'll let you know.
Nice start on the neck. I like seeing more of your process too. You can never have too many guitars, LOL! The V build will be a good watch!
Thanks Jag! Definitely having fun over here. I do have too many guitars 😆
That core looks great! And the burled camphor, OMG! That top piece of Koa, with the dark streak, is going to look really amazing when it's book matched too. Nice start! If I were Eric, I'd choose the really stripy ebony, it will be a great contrast to the camphor burl.
He chose that fretboard!
He’s a good man 😂
Oh yeah! One more thing😂 A Pica Dry Marker works great on those darker woods. The lines are way more visible!! FYI!!✌️&💙 You could also get some darker lead for your pencil!
Cool!
Nice brother. Padauk is one of my favorite neck woods ever. I developed an allergy from using it and it blistered my wrist joints really bad, swelled my eyes. I still use it but I apply a barrier cream before working with it. Padauk is a sensitizer so even if you've never had an allergy to it, you can develop one! Just a little info to try and help you be safe brother. Excellent video and what a killer guitar this will be! ✌️&💙
You are not wrong about how much this wood can mess with you. I made a double cut carved top and masked up for all the major wood working. Just a little hand sanding without a mask and I couldn't get a full breath for days.
The Ziricote got me really bad. Steroid face cream and a miserable couple weeks. Reading showed exposure to rosewood can cause a lot of these woods to become allergic. Ziricote never bothered me before I worked with rosewood. I wear a full face and take a hot shower as immediately as I can to get the oils off of me. Been working pretty well. Thanks Todd! Cheers
More in depth? Great! Chapters for getting to specific spots in the video? Even better! Still, it can't top how cool this guitar is going to be!
Thanks Cal! Nice of you to say, having fun over here. Cheers
DUDE, that burl looks like lizard skin!!! And love the idea about using the offcuts to make the cores 😊
Ooh I think I have to call this guitar the lizard king from now on! Thanks Goth, Cheers
Very tasty. Are you going to have a headstock veneer to match the top?
Thanks so much! Yes it will have a matching headstock veneer.
Good stuff. Looking forward to watching how it comes out!
Thanks Man! It would be awesome to collaborate on a McDowell guitar some day.
Really like that entire frame done with maple offcuts. Way to use what you have. The koa looks awesome! My choice would be that jet black ebony for the fretboard. This one is going to be very cool!
Thanks Cal! After looking at it I think the black would be best too. Its going to have some crazy inlays.
This channel is 10000x better than PornHub for giving me a boner
OH MY GOD THAT WOOD IS INCREDIBLE BROTHER!!!!! The text photo doesn't even compare to this video! I LOVE YOU MAN THIS IS GOING TO BE SO AMAZING!!!
Love you too Eric. This should be a blast!
Wow! They are all looking so good! Nice to see you back! 😊
Thanks Jag! Need to catch up on the shop rebuild. How you liking it?
@@McDGuitars I got back in there today and (mostly) got my wood storage sorted. I’m really happy with how it’s going.
VERY 😎 COOL LOOKING GUITAR
Thanks Chuck! I really appreciate it. Cheers
Looks awesome!
Thanks so much! Finally going to get a chance to catch up on your electric build. Cheers
Aside from buiding fine guitars. It looks like you create guitar art.
Thanks so much Bob! That is really nice of you to say. Cheers
You are a busy guy Mc. This 335 is looking great! Really nice figure. I can see your skill level rising along with your eye for detail. I tried to keep the videos going good on my first 335 build but I ran into the deadline on getting it done. And then the neck twisted and I had to start from scratch again. Only neck I've had go bad and it had to be on a client build.
Thanks Dane, The pre-built tele neck is twisted, I'll be getting to that soon. Very excited with the 335!
That's one frickin elegant guitar. I want. The love and care put into it is plain to see. I'm looking forward to all your continuing efforts. It always puts a smile on my face when your videos pop up in my feed.
That really means a lot Ed! Sometimes you wonder why you keep at something when others are clearly better. Comments like yours make it easier to keep striving. Thanks again
Beautiful guitar, brother! Can't wait to see the Tele finish! And a big chunk of Kona getting milled down someday!
Koa is ready to cut. We will figure it out, if you answer your phone 😋
Sweet! All the finishing coming together at just about the same time. Love that 335's amber gold finish and that telelooks terrific, too!
Thanks Cal! Stoked you hit 100 subscribers! I started guitar building with 26. I would love to build you a guitar free of charge. You should start thinking of ideas.🤔 whatever you want (electric guitar) cheers
@@McDGuitars That is such an amazing offer, Mick. I really can't accept. I have an alternative if you are into it. I would really like a cavity cover with your logo on it made from one of your off cuts.
Totally cool Cal! All the guitars I'm building are going to be free to the player. I have two more to go, decided I might just keep that idea going. We'll see what we can figure out for a cover.
@@McDGuitars Great! I am going to bother some builders I follow for the same thing. It will make a cool display board.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tele!!!!!
Have to love those Bob Ross happy accidents. Cheers
I hope you are enjoying life, brother, but I REALLY need my fix of another update video!!! LOL
ye ask and ye shall receive!
@@McDGuitars Now THATS what I call a quick response! LOL
I laughed as I saw your comment during final edit! Haha Your wood is ready 🤔
The amber looks fantastic!
Thanks so much!
Nice video
Thanks so much!
Nice work dude
Right on Rob! Thanks
That looks amazing! I tried using the Mac tinted amber and was to yellow. I guess the secret is lots of coats. Cool idea for a spray both.
Thanks Dane! Wasn't sure how it would work, but I am a fan of many coats. You make tools from what you have right 😉
The figuring sure pops. Nice looking guitar Mickey!
Thanks Jag! It's sure is coming together. Wasn't sure how this would look; but I am liking it too.
Jaw dropping, Mick. I had a few doubts about amber, but no more! The contrast with the walnut is sick!
Thanks Cal! I just love that in between amber and tigers eye look. Wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I like it too.
