I'm bigender AFAB, suffer from multiple trans phantoms of the male sex. Penis, testicles, body hair, second set of nipples higher up, narrower hips, wider shoulders, more muscle mass, and possibly a prostate but not sure about that one. Started at 19 after my adrenal glands [or another source] started producing a lot of T for some reason, must have woke up dormant male circuitry in my brain. I was happily a cis female prior to that. This is a scary phenomenon.

AI researchers/creators have it all wrong with respect to consciousness. They have self-identity (ego in short) confused with consciousness. I think they are trying to create an individual, which may require consciousness, but the two are not identical. Ego depends on consciousness, but not the other way around. At least in my experience

So is any amount of consciousness better than non-consciousness? I don't understand how just existing for that bing moment due to the collapse of the wave function can be the pleasure that motivates all of evolutionary history I mean I get that something is better than nothing In most cases, but that doesn't really explain why an organism that hasn't evolved a pleasure center in the brain would consider that a net win.

Hello Rodrigo, @ 4:18 as you are not considering consciousness as something physical, does this mean that it is not a function of the brain as in Global Workspace theory?

Mass particles can be created out of vacuum if energy density is high enough e.g. laser photons. So what is higher in value? Isn't vacuum the real reality? What if reality is mix? What if the answer isn't yes or no.

In "Theravada" Buddhism in Sri Lanka, all enlightened "Baghavath Buddhas" appear on earth after eons of life times of purification of the mind, as a fulfilling universal qualification to perfecting qualities of "conscious energies" described in Sri Lankan Buddhist canon/texts "Pali Thripitaka" as "paramitha kamma" (perfectible universal deeds). The Baghvath Buddha has described beings existing in 31 realms. All creations in this universes are "energies" with influence of the "elements" under "causality". The Buddha has described how universal energy called "kamma" manifests in human form through human faculties of seeing, hearing, smelling, taste, touch & mind (past experiences) called aggregates, amalgamating with external world experiences of feelings through the "Human heart " organ as electrical wave signals to develop a "seed" to become "conscious energy" which continues to the brain as a "thought" and this continuation of experience is stored in the "sub conscious" mind in the human brain called "mano" (pali ) (mind) in Buddhism. This" perception " action is called "thought". Thought becomes a conscious energy called "kamma/karma , phenomenon in Buddhism.

Hameroff is so consistently bad at explaining the technical terms he uses in his attempts to describe his consciousness theories in laymen's terms. In this video he quickly digresses into referring to clinically relevant numerical MAC correlations (minimal alveolar concentration) with conscious phenomena. Has it never been pointed out to him that this sort of medical jargon is all but unintelligible to viewers who aren't familiar with anesthesiology? There's no doubt Hameroff's professional work has given him unique insight into the nature of consciousness, but he hasn't yet discovered how to communicate his findings to people outside his own specialized field.

I missed seeing this a year ago and it's really disappointing to only see 17 likes on this video when Luca is investigating consciousness in such an effective and important way. I come to these questions not as a biologist, but as a coder, an electrician, an inventor and a 3D designer. As someone fascinated by evolution since the age of 7. Though Luca is careful not to make too many claims about mitochondria and consciousness, I see it as a big-picture puzzle in which mitochondria pass the conception bottleneck intact, where mitochondrial and eukaryotic DNA have co-evolved over the millennia and where mitochondrial inter messaging drops a massive hint that in the context of thinking organisms, it's the common factor, located in the right places to fulfil symbiotically evolved communications with (eukaryotic) neurons and other cells to form consciousness, to exhibit instincts, our naturally evolved equivalents of boot code and operating systems. Don't look for a precise mapping here because computer I/O doesn't map well to biological organism's I/O. But since finding from the article "The whispering mitochondria" about 2.5 years ago, my intuition immediately swapped out eukaryotic DNA for mitochondrial DNA for the probable mechanism for passing instincts between generations. And then I scent pheromones. A proportion of women as a graded scale. Likely Luca does too. Much of our diet is selected on scent. We've had a presumption that locomotion, instinctive likes and dislikes. even kissing all come from hard-wired eukaryotic DNA programming but it never sat well with my intuition. And yet covid-19 showed us a relationship between brain for and loss of sense of smell. Spiritual people like to think there's something more than the body alone, they like to imagine a soul. And let's not dive too deeply into stories about those who've had organ transplants, someone else's mitochondria! So here, we have the hardware of the body as providing functions of neural network, visual and touch I/O, energy harvesting, locomotion. And we have the mitochondria, our sweet, intimate symbiont who has co-existed with us since if not panspermia, then at least the beginnings of symbiosis on earth. Is is surprising to imagine that our reproductive desires might be attributable in our consciousness to a tiny cell that occupies most of ours, that can pass messages? Can you imagine this discussion, the conceptualization before computers, parallel processing, the fascination with quantum computing? Animals are symbionts and we can not fully judge symbionts on the basis of expression of their eukaryotic DNA only, their symbionts get a powerful vote! When the operating system and bios are essentially provided by mitochondria(I believe), then the bigger picture is that our eukaryotic hosts are as massive spaceships with a payload of evolved consciousness with experience in breeding their hosts(pheromones). I expect we will find that kissing exchanged mitochondria. While mitochondria are known to pass in the egg but not the sperm, there will be other mechanisms to pass mitochondria between organisms where that sharing provides evolutionary advantage.

I talked to Professor Basil J. Hiley several times over the past five years. He said he hasn't analyzed gravitational entropy. But Penrose does point out that gravitational entropy is the opposite of the entropy of matter. Penrose also admits, like Hiley, that noncommutativity is the origin of the protoconsciousness as quantum negentropy gravitational potential energy. So our ecological crisis is actually due to commutative geometry. Basil J. Hiley emphasizes that quantum biology has been wrong thus far for ignoring noncommutativity since it doesn't limit quantum coherence to the microscale.
