A few corrections: There is no Church officially called "The Mormon Church". That is a nickname given by others to cover up the name The Church of Christ (originally) and then later, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and due to them recognizing The Book of Mormon as scripture. The origin of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints starts in 1819 when Joseph Smith, Jr, went in to the woods to pray about which Church he should join. He claims to have had a vision in which he was told by Jesus not to join any of the Churches and wait for further steps. The angel Moroni told Joseph Smith, Jr, the plates were a record of ancient people descended from Israel. While Joseph Smith, Jr, excavated and started translating the plates in 1827, a short time later the manuscript which had been translated so far was stolen. Joseph Smith, Jr, lost the plates for 2 years, and couldn't restart the translation until 1829. The first manuscript which was translated was never recovered and not included in current copies of The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon also tells the story of a tribe (known as Jaredite) which escaped the Tower of Babel who also emigrated to the American continent, but most of its pages are centered on the experiences of the Israelites.

I live in Jena, Germany which has been labeled "the city of science". We have one of the highest percentage of people with PhDs in Germany. In fact the theory of evolution was introduced to Germany beginning from Jena via Ernst Haeckel. I therefore have the opportunity to speak/discuss with world renown evolution biologists. As a young believer in Christ I didn't doubt the theory of evolution, because it was the only explanation I was permitted to be taught in school. Only after someone challenged me to examine this theory closer did I reject the theory of evolution, because it miserably fails the scientific method! A few elements of the scientific method: What is being proposed must be: 1) observable 2) reproducable 3) falsifiable just to name a few -- and even reputable believers in evolution admit this! Here's a couple: Ernst Mayr, a highly decorated evolutionist, admits: "Darwin introduced historicity into science. Evolutionary biology, in contrast with physics and chemistry, is a historical science-Laws and experiments are inappropriate techniques for the explication of such events and processes.. . In fact, evolutionary biology as a science is in many ways closer to the humanities than to the natural sciences." The English Darwinist Sir Arthur Keith put it this way: "Evolution is UNPROVEN and UNPROVABLE. We only believe in it because otherwise we would have to believe in creation, and that is unthinkable." I could provide many more quotes from evolution scientists who admit that the theory of evolution does not adhere to the scientific method, but is based more on ideology. But here are just two points which have falsified this theory: 1) for starters without biological life, evolution cannot take place. The attempts to reproduce life arising from lifeless chemicals (abiogenesis) have all failed miserably. This assumption has been falsified without exception! 2) What is the underlying process which makes it possible for a single-celled microbe to eventually over millions/billions of years, to evolve into a human being? So much totally new, not yet present genetic information must arise (for a brain, teeth, eyes etc.). How does this happen? The present explanation is random, undirected mutations plus natural selection. Pay attention: mutations cannot produce totally new, not yet present genetic information. They can only corrupt and miscopy ALREADY PRESENT genetic information. I have posed this question to top-notch evolution biologists and they are a unable to present a single case where totally new, not yet present genetic information has been generated via mutations. So, can a Christian believe in the theory of evolution -- yes, but he should be aware he is undermining his faith in the Creator God on the basis of a falsified theory. The verifiable fact speak for a directed, purposeful cause -- not random, undirected processes!

The question should be the other way around: evolution is a theory with evidence; what does this mean for Christian faith? Should we reconsider the faith? Because without a fall, Jesus mentioning the creation story, and even questions like when did the common ancestor of humans and apes get a soul, there are many questions for the Christian to answer.
