Example of a Positive Discipline Family Meeting
www.besproutable.com/positive-discipline-family-meetings/
What is a Positive Discipline family meeting supposed to look like? Well the truth is - it is messy! Families don't just skip along and sing songs and hold hands through family meetings. It is real work investing in family relationships. We decided to share with you a real-life family meeting from our co-founder Julietta Skoog. Note: her family did not want to be filmed in the actual video. It is raw footage of her family meeting with a crying two-year-old and all! Imperfection is real life.
The children in this video are 10, 7 and 2 years old. You'll see compliments, example of a sibling problem solving (not sharing!), connection and firmness in action, and solution-focused problem solving.
Notice what skills everyone is learning.

      @Sproutable 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lily. This video is exactly for your age kiddos. Follow the tips in the video and just remember consistency and practice for both of you will help teach skills even at 15 months. They may not have the expressive language to tell each other how they feel or what they need, but you can offer those words for them. Let us know what other questions you have! You can always email us here: info@besproutable.com

      Twins are fantastic to teach because they have lots of opportunities to practice with each other. Be their voice, for example if one is playing with a toy, guide the other one's hand out and say "can I take a turn please?" You can also literally just play "gentle" where you sit with them and practice gentle touching so they get the concept. This age is so important because they UNDERSTAND so much, even though they aren't as verbal. So they are primed for learning. We have a great siblings workshop coming up at the end of June as well! You can find more at www.besproutable.com :) Hope this helps-- you can ask us anything, reach out if you have more questions: info@besproutable.com

    Aaaahhh thank you there aren't many real examples of how to actually use the techniques and be connective whilst firm and still move through to the next activity or task because obviously in that moment you don't think to record yourself so having videos where people have their own routines and their own ways of communicating with their children and working through the emotions with their children is exactly what i need as a person on the spectrum i learn from these specific examples with children. So thank you cery much it has made the whole process seem much more attainable.

    In my opinion, kids could also get toys at other times if they have been very good and good kids all the time. If there is any kind of trip or Disneyland going, then I think the kids should get something out there because the things they bought from the trips are still very valuable souvenirs that are not sold in shops, and every thing that is bought, will be remembered for their wonderful trips. I highly recommend that you let the children choose what they like very much, their biggest dream and buy it. children may not like them at all.Purchase only the things that they really wanted and make them really happy.Sometimes they could rarely allow children to have the toys they deserve with their great nobility.If children are still very good, then, very rarely, they could just as well afford more expensive things. Very expensive things, then for the holidays. I advise against banning things that children really like, because then they start plans to just want more.I advise not to buy all the time, but sometimes very rarely still be able to afford something if they have been very good children for a long time.I certainly also recommend that you let the children choose from online stores, because there are just so many rare, popular, exciting, cakey, and sweet things that may not be available in stores. Hello there! Dear parents! Every child has the right to keep all the toys because they are valuable! If you have space, let them keep everything in their childhood! Keep the toys, if the kids like them very much!!! Could you please forward these messages to the other people and parents too,because it is very important for all of us that every single kid can get the best childhood ever and their dreams should also come true and they will be very happy then!!!It will teach all the parents,how to give the best childhood for their children!!!This is the best lesson for all the parents!!!Thank You!

    Hey! I love your parenting classes and techniques. They all follow evidence-based developmental milestones. Just wanted to give you a heads up that the right-brain/left brain distinction has very recently been disproven. It's true that we have have specialized areas for speech and emotion as you describe but there isn't a clear boundary in the brain (left/right) where specific concepts and emotions reside. it's still a very easily understandable metaphor/framing device for the development that's happening and everything you are saying within that metaphor is totally accurate and very good advice. My source is that I did my undergrad for speech language pathology in 2015. So, pretty recent. I also keep up with literature and learning. So, I'm not an expert but it might be worth looking into.

    • @Sproutable
      @Sproutable 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stacey - I would really lean into the "practice" here. Two year olds are physical and just learning what it means to have gentle bodies. I would always say, gentle bodies and show what gentle looks like and keep practicing! The tip here about keeping your body safe is helpful for your situation too. You could say, "I need to keep my body safe. We are always gentle with other people's bodies." And be consistent! If you are noticing that they are needing that physical release, offers other things like jumping, dancing, going outside to play. Email here if you have further questions: info@besproutable.com

    • @Sproutable
      @Sproutable 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks Julietta, I would like to add that an important part of Positive Time Out is the kids help create it and that they choose it. In other words, instead of "sending" kids to their PTO, ask, "Would it help you to go to your PTO?" If they say no, be a good model and go to your own PTO.
