some re commissioning repairs to Taylor Hetheringtons old Allegro to make it a daily
Some repairs to Taylor Hetheringtons old Allegro. It was brought to me to carry out a few repairs to make it a usable daily for life in central London. We carry out a steering rack replacement due to steering rack inner bush failure. It had absolutely no brakes, which was due to catastrophic wheel cylinder failure. We also replace a missing choke cable and fashion some wiper blades

a brief overview of a Freelander VCU. I am attempting to self overhaul this unit. Attempt at your own risk. If it was a vehicle I was precious about I would personally spend the £300 and get a refurbished unit with a warranty. But it's not!!! so let's see what happens

    That's a well solid Allagro! It takes me back to my apprentiship days at a family run garage! A trick i learned with brake fluid contaminated shoes if you cant get replacements is to heat them up gently with a blow torch and the brake fluid sweats out 👍 Also liked and subbed 👌

    what is happening with me ....when i park and when i turn into drive then it feels like it is braking as if it is blocking ... it only does it when i want to park ...in the test with only 1 rear wheel raised and with the weight of 5kg is slowly turning normally....what do you suggest like a good person

    that seems easier than cutting it open and dismantling it. My mums cars vcu had leaked and there is no coupling effect. The unit must have cooked because the front cv came out sending all the torque to the rear and only realised when the car wouldn't move. Dunno if it was a shitty ebay cv or a weak spring clip on the output spline but i think opening up the clip will hold the shaft on now, but i'd like to get the rear wheels working again as intended too.

    had a front driveshaft pop out on awd cruze/ignis which overloaded vcu, driver didnt know and now its fwd with leaking vcu. Is that fixable? I haven't properly looked at it yet.

    Hey man thanks. I bought my teen son a 2004 Impreza Outback 5-speed, 156,000 miles. AWD of course. We didn't notice a whine noise, but it just started clicking or tapping around curves and acceleration. I can feel the tapping in the gear shift handle. And it seems it sometimes loses AWD grip when it taps. So I think the center diff is binding the output shafts sometimes. I don't think mine will be rebuildable due to heat. I found new ones with 2 year warranty for $185. Or OEM Subaru ones for $600ish. Any preference or experience? Thanks!

    Nice idea. Might have to try that myself. Certainly a less invasive procedure that cutting one end off and then re welding. Was there any noticeable difference in balance due to having the different thread/bolt opposite the grease fitting or was the M10 just a precautionary exercise?

    When drilled the unit, how did you prevent damaging the discs inside?

    • @mgsautomotivemishaps
      @mgsautomotivemishaps ปีที่แล้ว

      just go careful, as soon as you see fluid on the end of the drill, stop. You would have to drill all the way through the disc for it to cause a problem, even then it probably wouldn't make a massive amount of difference. I have done 2 units and not had a problem.

      @@mgsautomotivemishaps I've never had a Freelander but am contemplating buying one - I was looking for typical faults when I came across your video - very interesting. Presumably the tap will enter the void slightly. Did you measure the wall thickness and mark the tap with tape, or similar? Unsure of the properties of the original fluid - would gentle heating thin it to accelerate the removal?

      Works really well, i have done 2 now. One using a 30000cst fluid and the other a 15000cst and both work well and can be turned comfortably with a 47cm length ratchet. I have re-drilled and tapped this unit to M10 on a pillar drill as it made a much neater result and kept the balance 100%.
