    My first jeep was an '81 CJ-5...SKY BLUE, 258 C.I. straight 6, 4 speed manual. I bought it in January of '83 with 12,000 miles and it was CHERRY!!! That's one vehicle I wish I'd never sold! Thanks for the memories.

    I wonder with 2 runways in use if they couldn't use 2 arrival corridors?

    • @xheralt
      @xheralt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There _are_ 2 arrival corridors, show planes, big boys, and other high-priority craft come in straight over the lake. The Fisk route for all others is a management tactic that enforces consistency; if people are botching that one set of instructions, do you really think they wouldn't get two competing sets confused? Fisk route is more flexible, if either 9/27 or 36 become unavailable (priority incoming or incident on ground) the other runway immediately takes the load; separate approach paths would mean a lot more juggling of craft, more fuel burned, if a sudden runway closure happens. Also, where to route 2nd path? There are residents nearby whose wishes to not have conga lines of planes going over them have to be respected.

    • @raoulcruz4404
      @raoulcruz4404 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I realize this arrival procedure has been going on for decades and works well. Flew it myself about 25 years ago. I know about the arrival over the lake. What I was pondering was a Ripon- Fisk arrival for 36 and let's say a Omro-Zion arrival for 9-27. Maybe that just complicates things? I guess you're right, if they are going to botch one thing, they'll botch something else. What they have now will work, if pilots would just play by the rules.

    What the notam said and what was actually happening in the air were very different. Altitudes and airspeeds were trying to be followed but once it got so conjested and they were asking for 2 miles between aircraft the air speeds were not being followed so we just had to adapt per the directions given enroute. When we were told to make the turn toward 36 we had to follow the line of aircraft in front of us which made a large loop to the south, again not following the notam but even the final approach was so congested you had to be looking around and pay attention. It was clear that people were not doing that which is why we were getting traffic coming in on us during final. If they had looked they would have seen the line of aircraft and wouldn’t have cut in on us. There were a lot of frustrated pilots out there, that was retry clear by the recorded traffic. I’m not trying to say anyone was right or wrong it was just madness. I’m not the pilot by the way, I’m just along for the flight trying to be a second set of eyes to help out.

      Matt Lane with two mile in trail, I can imagine it was hard to see that the “conga line” for approach to 36 was looping south. It’s understandable that the Cessna that was appearing to cut in front of you thought he was in the right, being over Fiske Ave. One would think that once directed at Fisk, the madness on approach to Fisk would be over and the orderly progression to the runway would prevail. Sorry to see that was not the case. I commend all pilots in that mess for seeing and avoiding with the result of no midair’s. Truly remarkable. It will be interesting to see if the EAA and FAA make any changes to the arrival procedure.

    • @raoulcruz4404
      @raoulcruz4404 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 2 mile in trail is not reasonable. ATC said it twice so, I guess that's what he meant. Sometimes they get tongue tied. 1/2 mile in trail is the normal. As for the pilots transmitting that they are on their 10th time around or whatever. Waaaaaahh ! Useless and unnecessary radio traffic.

  • @RVN782P
    @RVN782P 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How far south of Fiske Ave were you? Per notam, you are to be *just* south. From your video of final approach to 36, you were way too far south, causing the sequencing to close up. Berating a pilot that was flying the approach correctly was unfair.

    • @mattlane2365
      @mattlane2365 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sir I going to go ahead and take the opertunity to educate you. Some people can afford to go out and buy really nice jeeps with all the latest and greatest 4 wheel drive gadgets to get them out of any situation imaginable and if nothing else they just look cool driving down the asphalt. I have nothing against these people. Someday I wouldnt mind being able to buy a nice new jeep like yours with all the creature comforts. But this wasn’t one of those types of jeeps. This is a Willys, and this is what we call “Built, Not Bought”. You buy a new jeep cause it’s practical, you build an old Willys jeep for the heart and soul of both you and the jeep. This particular jeep had a third member involved that didn’t even know it till I gave it to him completed. This jeep was built for his heart and soul, to help keep him pushing on while he battled cancer, and to help lift his spirits when he was down. The mustache is a big part of his life and who he is. It was a very sad day when he had to shave his own mustache because it was falling off due to chemo. This mustache is going to do more work in it’s life than any of the gadgets on your jeep will ever do. The mustache will stay. He is doing great by the way, pushed through some sketchy times but he’s back to his same old corky ways.
