What you are proposing will work. You can use distilled water, filtered water or even regular water. Distilled is the highest quality water you could use. You can use 50/50 concentrated coolant or pre-mixed coolant. What ever is available.

There is a groove just inside the bore on the bracket. The rubber bushing (the bellows-like part) has a ridge which must go into that groove to complete the seal. To install the pin and bushing correctly the bushing must be installed in the bracket first, then the pin will lock it in place when it is inserted through the bushing. If not done correctly the repair will probably seize when water enters and causes corrosion. When you do it this way, be sure there is sufficient lubricant in the bore, because the bushing will wipe most of the lubricant off the shaft of the pin as it is installed. Be sure to use brake grease because it is compounded to work in the temperate range brakes will endure, from below freezing to many hundreds of degrees.

    • @drive-chriscapredoni

Very good description. I think that is what happened in the first place in addition to not having enough lubrication from the factory. I used silicone brake grease and ensured the sleeves were installed correctly. I also replaced one as it was torn.

In the search box type in blend door and it will give you the actuator and a few other options. Click on it and it will provide the price, which is not much, and you can click on the photo on the right to see what it looks like. You are interested in the look from the back side (has a round area dominating it) The back side is what you are going to see when you removed the lower plastic panel under the steering wheel and look up towards the center console. Use a flash light to look for this component. Probably held in place with 2 maybe three screws. The plastic panel need to be carefully removed by removing several plastic clips and I think some torx-bit screws. Be very careful and patient removing this lower panel so you do not have to replace it. GM will charge alot. Please try and locate it. You may have to get on your back with your legs outside the door to actually see up in that cavity below the steering wheel. Let me know how it goes.

Insert the end of the parking brake cable, into the expanding lock, before inserting it. Make sure it is sitting in the location as per the photo. 2. Install both brake shoes and attach them with the pin/spring. You will require either a 5mm or 6mm Allen bit to push the tip of the pin in the square slot in the dust shield and then turn it 90 degrees to lock them in place. 3. Install the expanding bolt on the opposite sides of the brake shoes. Screw down the expanding bolt to it's lowest/shortest setting, insert it between both brake shoe ends, with each end of the bolt coming into contact with the slots/notches on the ends of the brake shoes. Then lengthen the bolt by rotating/screwing-out the expanding bolt until it fits snuggly in place between both brake shoes.

For the 310 ft-lb torque, I calculated my 235# weight at 16" from the center of the socket should give approx 310 ft-lb (i.e. 310lb/235lb = 1.32; then multiply 1.32 x 1 foot or 12" = 15.84", approx 16" should be pretty close)

I believe that you should not grease the bottom of the sliding pin.

I respectfully disagree. Silicone brake grease is necessary to maintain functionality.

I appreciate the video but what does it teach ? 6 min long video and about replacing belt but you don't show how to remove or replace the belt except for maybe a 20 second flash of you pulling on the tensioner.. . again thanks but I have no more info on how to do this then I did before watching the video

The difficulty in replacing the X5 belt is not relieving the tension or slipping off the belt and slipping on the new one. It is being able to access it. The focus was on how to access it by removing the rad fan so you have access to the tensioner and belt. Sorry you missed the intent. Most people don't need to see a belt being slipped off and use the video to learn how to create access.

Not a good idea to guess. Transmissions are very expensive to repair.

Great video! Don't forget to replace the little rubber caps back on the caliper retaining bolts to keep them sliding and keep dirt and grime out.

Depends if we are talking about the 6 or 8 cylinder engines. If the 6 cylinder, the procedure I showed. If the 8 cylinder, it may be different. Have not performed this procedure on a 4.8L engine.

Umm no that might be an A/C problem not an actuator issue.
