Gils Solo Trip - Horror at Wolfe Creek -lots of minor car & caravan casualties along the way.
Gil Hits the Road - Anyone would think that I have driving into Wolfe Creek Crater with all the issues that are happening to the car & caravan. No matter how small they are there is no going down to the local shop to pick up supplies. Repairs have to be done the best way I can.

    Thank you Guys for posting this video. It is of great value to us, to see the little things (& occasionally big things) that can go wrong, we then learn to look for, and plan our response should they happen to us. Well done, the corrugated roads absolutely pound the crap out of all vehicles. When my wife and I were younger, we traveled half way round Australia in a 1969 LWB 109 series 2A Land Rover. Although suffering no breakage at all due to carefully packing via tips and tricks from being a member of The Land Rover Owners Club.of Australia. Saw lots of vehicles and vans that did not make it. Wonderful experience and memories. We are planning another trip, although we are in our mid 70's, this one will be a slower and more comfortable. Keep up the great work. Cheers from Michael. Australia.

      @giljoy-eatsaustralia8768 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We have two Crusader caravans and even though we had issues with the first one we still purchased this one because we know if or when there are issues they are addressed and fixed. Any caravan you have will have issues especially if you take it to places like the Gibb, it's how good is the after sales service that backs your purchase that makes the difference. So yes we would recommend them, but always would suggest that if you are after a van do your research because what suits us many not suit you.

      @giljoy-eatsaustralia8768 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@man.i.literally.failed6772 I would recommend after purchasing it go on shorter shakedown trips to get to know the caravan and if anything needs to be fixed you won't be far from home. It is much easier, but not impossible to get repairs and maintenance done close to the dealership than to organise things in another state. Also be aware that it is much harder to get anything fixed around the months of Nov, Dec, Jan due to everyone wanting their vans to be serviced or ready for travel or the Christmas closures. It is a large investment into purchasing a caravan and we didn't take it lightly. We checked that the car could tow the caravan and that they were both suited. The X-Country (made to order) was our first van (had it for 4 years now) and the Hurricane (off the showroom floor) the second van (5 months). There are things we would exclude if we were to change vans and things that we would add but that is because we are getting to know what suits us when traveling, not because there is anything wrong with the van.

It’s good to have tools so you can repair it the tire keep it as a spare. Those puncher repair kids are very good are used to carry one on my motorbike river I went only had to use it a couple of times but still working fine travelled thousands of kilometres with the plug in it. The tyre repair kit has become so handy. Lots of sharp rocks and flat tyres. Opted for this caravan because we already own another Crusader so are familiar with most of the gadgets on it and because of the setup factor. Was thinking about a camper trailer or a pop top but feeling a bit old these days to fuss around with those, also wanted the indoor shower/toilet arrangement for convenience. Love travelling around Australia, it's great to get out and see what there is to offer and meet people along the way. Good luck in your future travels.

    Did the Tanami Track with my gf in 1980 in a 1978 Suzuki LJ80 soft top. Stayed at L. Gregory with some indigenous friends from Balgo. Unfortunately overloaded the vehicle with people and gear which caused the rear uni joint to fail the next day between Balgo and Rabbit Flat. The rear drive shaft fell off during a dry creek crossing so had to complete the journey to Alice Springs via Yeundumu on the front drive shaft in 4WD. The section from Halls Creek to Yeundumu we only saw one other vehicle. The owner at Rabbit Flat Roadhouse radioed the police at Yeundumu to let them know we were coming though in case we had further mechanical problems, but all good. Looks a bit different now!

    In Alice right now, SayGday van park, just south of the gap is always spotless, I find it impossible to find anything and have to google it all, everything is of on side streets hidden from plain view, the shopping centre is impossible to get to, I am disabled a bit but don't have disabled parking and it is just to far between shops within the centre, all the easy entrances on the outside are closed and only one track in and it is kilometres of walking. As far as being safe, different skin colour does not make it unsafe but poverty does. I wanted to buy a bottle of port, missed Sundays time then found monday and tuesday were no alcohol days, this policy is so racist against white folk and annoying to me. I had to stop in Alice due to breaking both my car keys but I think just an over night stay from now on then spend my money elsewhere, can't wait to get going again.

One comment - told to me by a guy who taught me how to repair punctures [he used to work for a tyre place] - ALWAYS wear eye protection when doing this to prevent any steel fibres/dust/grit from flying out of the tyre at high pressure straight into your eyes... SAFETY FIRST - especially our eyes!!! 😁🤗

      Thank you for the great feedback. So pleased that you are planning a trip too. Starlink is currently in the process of changing things to make it easier for travellers and to have it more mobile (Starlink Mini). I will check into it later in the year and see about upgrading, but basically you need a power source to run it by batteries and an inverter in your car or caravan (a power point). It is not cheap, however is a good safety net to have, especially if you are travelling alone.

    I have travelled extensively throughout Australia and in my opinion the worst place to free camp is anywhere within 10kms of a town. (especially Fri and Sat nights) Why? ... it is close enough for the townsfolk to come out of town and party, drink, hoon, whatever else they feel like doing as they themselves are getting out of town and from under the cops' noses to have some fun. This is where Starlink has been a game changer 🙂 as the #1 reason for parking close to towns was to have access to internet/phone. Tip - buy pool noodles, split the down the middle and cable tie them around exposed plastic pipes, cables, etc under the van.....prevents the majority of rock damage.

      Like with anywhere you go you have to lock your things up, make sure that nothing valuable is in sight. With Alice Springs personally we wouldn't stay in the town but outside the town and it is not recommended to go out at night there. This was an exception because of the event that was on and the police presence. Our daughter stayed in Alice Springs by herself for 3 months just prior to this and she felt safe, but again didn't go out at night. I think it depends on you as a person too. What would you feel comfortable in being around. Gil is ok and relaxed with this but he has traveled places in the world that the average person wouldn't go to, me on the other hand would not feel safe in this type of place and would get anxious staying anywhere near there.

    ??????????????? why let tires down ??????????? it makes them unsafe you get side wall Punctures weakens side walls in turn when on highway blow outs reduced fuel economy the only time you should lower tires is in soft sand and extreme mud for short time. your shocks and springs are there for a reason let them do their job. running low Tyre presser just tells me you have to much money and don't want a safe car. it is good you are out to see Ozz but please stay safe and please keep tyers at manufacture recommend presser until you need to lower them.

    • @giljoy-eatsaustralia8768
      @giljoy-eatsaustralia8768 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Joe, thanks for your comment, but I feel that you have a misconception about when tyres need to be let down. It is true that the tyres should be let down in soft sand but also "Letting your tyres down for driving on a sandy beach, rough mountainous gravel tracks or corrugated roads when you're in the outback is crucial for ensuring you have the correct amount of tyre to surface contact". The tyres are only let down when it is felt that the road conditions require it to and what is best for both the car and caravan at the time, then they are inflated again. Yes we are still learning what is best for our rig, no we do not have too much money and no we do not want an unsafe car. We really do appreciate your comments but please do not attack us personally or speculate, as it will only deter other newbies out there from reaching out for help if they feel someone is going to be critical for them learning. Everyone wants to be safe on the road.
